However, it has come to my attention, that the current students at American High are currently without an Instructor for Culinary Arts, therefore the students are being "taught" by "substitutes". I get that teacher shortages are happening everywhere, and we are just getting through a global pandemic, but at the same time it's not like the previous Instructor Chef Rosen, decided to retire last minute. They knew well in advance, and you would think they would have been able to get an instructor before the school year started. If for some reason, they weren't able to find an instructor, which seems to be the case now, why even offer the course this year at all until an instructor is found? I've heard that students are trying switch out of the class and into other classes because they don't have an instructor, and are still being taught by substitutes. It's such a shame many of these students who are seniors, many of which who are coming out of distance learning, signed up for Culinary Arts, yet are being taught by substitutes. They probably aren't even being taught much or learning much about Culinary Arts. I hope Mission Valley ROP is doing everything they can to get a qualified instructor to teach Culinary Arts at American, as there are 4 Culinary Arts classes and 1 Event Planning course offered at American. If anything, perhaps they should ask Chef Rosen to come back until a permanent instructor can be found? Just to show the impact of taking an ROP class, not only did I earn College Credit for one of the courses I took, to this day, I still stay in touch with one of my instructors, Sergeant Crawford. Unfortunately, the other instructor I had, Mr. Gary Marsh sadly passed away a few years ago.

He helped me not only to pursuit my passion in culinary arts but he also helped me and a lot others through high school. Once I graduated I attended CCA in San Francisco and continued to go on a internship in Walt Disney World. Now only two years out of high school I'm being trained as a head line cook in a restaurant in Niles, California. None of this would of happened without Chef Mike with his guidance and teachings. Thank you for teaching this wonderful class.

I cannot stress how chill and nice he was. The course was taking a toll on my physical and mental health, but Scottie's cheerful optimism kept me going. He truly embodies positive energy and makes lectures so much more bearable. His storytelling and advice were very eye-opening as well. I regret not approaching him for help more often. However, unsurprisingly, it's very rigorous. For anyone looking at an 8-week course, you will spend 20 hours a week: 10 hours on lectures (MW or TTh; 5 hours each) and 10 on skills (Sunday); of course, with breaks in between. Lectures will cover 6 chapters per week, and you will take lecture exams every weekend on the day of your skills instruction. You should be able to dedicate a huge amount of time to reading through the course material (at least 20 hours imo). So please reconsider your decision if you're planning to work or study full-time during the course. Otherwise, give it a shot! Be cool and professional, and most important of all, make sure you have a great time. I promise you, it'll be worth it.

All the tools and resources for me to succeed were readily available and the instructors were more than willing to tutor me outside of class. With the added benefit of having a Career Service Coordinator, on campus, who worked shoulder-to-shoulder with me on landing a position as a mechanic in one of the most coveted aviation companies in the Bay Area and the world: United Airlines, my experience attending this cool was a key step into building a career as a certified aviation mechanic. If your goal is to learn aviation from the ground up, wether that is general aviation, commercial aviation, or anything in between, this is the right school. Also I can tell you from experience the people that get the most out of this school are the individuals who are mature enough to understand the importance of determination, focus, hard work, attention to detail, and competition. If any of these traits sound scary to you, you must ask yourself if you belong in the aviation field to begin with. Not everyone will cut it, but the ones that do, will find the room and the space along with the right people to reach your goal of becoming an aviation maintenance professional.

I attended Aviation Institute of Maintenance about 5-6 years ago. Recently, I contacted the school…read morebecause I'm trying to finish my qualifications and get my A&P licenses. I was told they had a refresher program that would include an instructor assigned to help me prepare for my exams and get some hands on help. I spoke with the director, Suzanne, and she told me this was available. It took about a week for me to receive the registration paperwork, and after I signed it, it apparently wasn't submitted properly because when I showed up to pay the $3,000 fee, the staff couldn't even find my registration or knew what I was talking about. I then found out that what they were calling a "refresher program" was essentially Block 17, which I had already completed. That was very frustrating because I specifically called looking for a refresher program and some guidance to help me prepare for my exams, not to repeat something I had already completed. When I questioned this, instead of simply explaining the program and helping me understand my options, Suzanne became very defensive and made comments about me being a failure for coming back after 5-6 years and told me that I should study on my own. I'm not asking the school to do the work for me. I've been studying on my own. I was looking for some professional guidance and hands on assistance to help me finish what I started. We agreed that I would come back today between 12 PM and 2 PM to speak directly with the instructor, Ahmad, so I could ask him questions and get his opinion before deciding whether to pay $3,000 for the program. I drove about two hours to get there, arriving around 1:30-1:40 PM, and was then told that Ahmad had already left. Apparently, either he was never informed that I was coming, or they forgot to let him know just like how they forgot to send me the registration form and submit it awaiting my payment. At this point, I've received multiple apologies, but an apology doesn't fix the amount of time and effort I've wasted. I also asked if I could have Ahmad's professional contact information ( every instructor has a professional contact business card with their email and phone number ) so I could ask him my questions directly, and I was told they weren't allowed to give it to me. Overall, this experience has been extremely unprofessional and frustrating. I came back to the school because I genuinely wanted to finish what I started, and instead I felt misguided, disrespected, and given the runaround. I would strongly recommend asking very specific questions about what you are actually paying for before giving this school thousands of dollars.
