We had a front door, patio door and 8 windows installed by them and maybe I was expecting too much for the money. During the start of installation I had to ask the SSW guys to fully insulate the voids between new unit frames and rough openings-they were not intending to, something about air space for insulation, really?. When the SSW owner was on site seemed like they reverted to less than fully insulating the voids as requested. When the work was "complete" it turned out they had lost/misplaced hardware for the storm door which they removed from old door and incorrectly re-mounted to the new door they installed-SSW owner supplied some new screws and returned old unused hardware and I fixed part of the door issue myself. Still the storm door looked out of level, SSW owner willing to chalk it up to its being old/worn. Turns out the frame for the new front door was defective from the manufacturer which became apparent after I had the manufacturer come out to look at/fix it (these guys were great). The SSW owner did admit he knew the the new door frame was wider at the bottom than the top which was the cause of the storm door not being level because the new door frame was not level, go figure! We paid 2 times what the door would have cost if we bought it, the owner explaining the difference was for installation and because he would be responsible for issues with the door. I Don't think it's the SSW employees per se so much as the direction they were given. Case in point- it seemed like the owner thought my asking them to caulk at the top of a window (it had not been caulked-I had to ask them to do it) was asking a bit much. Would not hire nor recommend them.
There were also 2 double hungs windows SSW installed which had the incorrect glass and I had to co-ordinate replacement of this with the manufacturer who indicated it was not likely their error. Don't know who this part was on but............ read more
