I needed new regular glasses and sunglasses with a new prescription. My experience was excellent at each step. The sales person helped find a frame for my regular glasses, and was able to use my current sunglasses frame for the new ones, both at a reasonable price. Being 40 years old, and it being my first time wearing glasses, I tried another place, called Stanton optical, and had the worst experience ever. I was recommended to Schmidts optical by my mother, so I made an appointment and I'm telling you. It was the best experience ever. I am so pleased. They are very warm, welcoming and fair prices. Everything was explained to me, step-by-step, including what was wrong with my vision. After that, I went to the optical side, where you purchased your glasses, and there was treated absolutely amazingly by one of the ladies. Never had problems when it came to buying glasses there but their hearing center was a problem. Needed one hearing aid repaired under warranty. Went in and they said I had to contact the manufacturing to get it repaired, which was incorrect. Went back, armed with the warranty information and they took the hearing aid and sent it off but didn't give me a record of it being turned in. I went home, realized I should have gotten receipt, called them and they provide one. Second needless trip back. Two weeks later (I hadn't heard from them), I called to check on repair and they said they had, fixed. No phone call, no email to tell me it was returned from manufacture. Someday, I will need these replace. I won't go back. read more

My former primary pair of eyeglasses broke and was not able to be repaired. They were able to take the lenses out of my old primary glasses and put them in my back up glasses, and was very helpful and knowledgeable in assisting me to find a new set of frames for my back up lenses. read more

I've worn glasses for 50+ years - strong & weak prescriptions - several opticians in several states. Never have I had problems with my glasses. My journey to get new regular and sunglasses began in early May and ended in early August. Lots of excuses, changed stories and missed deadlines. I have given up. My sunglass lenses still do not fit my frame and I cannot recommend this optician. read more

Schmidt's has the best customer service in the business. It isn't run by a huge corporate company which makes such a huge difference in customer service. They will adjust, repair and replace anything for your glasses in a timely manner and they have enough employees so there is hardly ever a long wait. My wife and I went in to purchase glasses with our prescriptions. One of the sales representatives, a gentleman, was extremely demeaning and smug. Because we wanted to utilize our insurance benefits, we were somehow made to feel as if we were of a lesser class by this sales man. While the selection is quite good, the store auto take a look at its sales associates in the manner in which they treat customers. This particular salesman needs an education. That he represents the store ought to be taken seriously by the manager. While we could've purchased any glasses in the store, it is the way in which we were treated, which will make it not a place for our purchase. read more

Buyer Beware!!! This is Judy D. my prior review on Schmidt's was my first review which was not good. Well folks it doesn't get any better this time either. I did go back three more times to try and get a refund for my glasses which are useless. Any business that posts a small sign where you really have to look for, stating they do NOT give refunds means "Turn and Run". Only if the prescription was wrong would I be refunded. I went back to Schmidt's many times because (1) The lens kept falling out until the manager finally decided to use a strong glue to hold the screws in place preventing the lenses from popping out. (2) No matter what solution or clothe used to clean the lenses it was totally useless in keeping the cloudy film which to this day remains. (3) Lastly, I was told if the antiglare was removed the problem would be solved but that didn't work. Considering all of the above, I would say the prescription is incorrect, defective and I should be given a refund. read more

As a local resident I try to always support local businesses. Big mistake on this one. i went to them for prescription glasses. They made a pair of glasses for me and the bifocal was actually slanted across the glass lens. After fixing that they gave me both my glasses and sunglasses and they were obviously different and neither seemed right. I took them to my dr who put them on a machine to test them and told me neither were to the prescription he wrote, nor were either of them the same prescription. What a disaster. They refused to give a refund. They kept $1000 of my money. Terrible business with no scruples. Stay away! read more

Both my husband and I went for glasses there plus an eye exam for me. Both were disasters. I complained about the exam which was done by a "tech' and the second with one of the Opticians who changed the Rx. We both wanted Varilux lenses and paid the extra for them, but what we got were their cheap lenses made there we could hardly see to read except in the 'Sweet Spot' which was hard to find, but after we complained several times they still insisted they were Varilux. Then we found out that a 'true' Varilux lens has a mark on the lens from the manufacturer. When we had them checked it wasn't there, we also found out the Varilux comes with a card to verify from the manufacturer that they are Varilux which was also not there. I had to re-evaluate my prior post. Again sales lady was very nice ! Unfortunately everything flew out the window when a few days after purchase there was a problem with new glasses. Their customer service is absolutely the worst. And come to find out was overcharged by $49. When questioned was told oh you purchased economy frames ‍$180. One pair ??? The manager (owners girlfriend) is the rudest person have ever had contact with. She must be better at other tasks or else she wouldn't be in that position. Very unhappy, disappointed, and frustrated. On 4/5/21 I selected and paid in full for 2 pair of glasses. I did not intend to pay in full, but I was told they would be done by the beginning to middle of following week, so I thought no big deal. Never had a problem ordering glasses elsewhere before and you had a great frame selection. I expected the same easy peasy experience, it's not brain surgery. More than 2 weeks later went in and was told only one pair was done. I was advised it took longer as they had a problem with one of the machines. FYI, I have been wearing progressive lenses for over 15 years. Upon putting them on I had problems reading the paper chart. The lenses were extremely thick unlike my prior pair made elsewhere. I was told to only wear them for my brain to adjust. The prescription change was very minimal. Driving was awful, stairs were impossible to navigate. I returned them, at that point Lydia told me to only ask for her. I was told the reading portion was too high which is why I couldn't see, but the reading was off too, and they didn't need to be that thick. I had to turn my head to the right to see out of the left lens. There were also burnished marks I could see that reflected in the light. I was told no problem, we will remake, and they will be in by the end of the week. I asked how and was told you are making them there in your own lab. I was impressed. Two weeks later I picked up the ONE pair of glasses. They were waiting until it was right before they make the other pair, hmmmm. Still issues with reading without turning my head right and left. Forget reading the gages and clock in the car while driving, or at home watching TV. No getting used to, major eye strain, headache, and blurred vision. Returned, no problem we will make them again more like your current pair you are used to. Good, thank you! I'm feeling like I'm a problem customer. Over two weeks again, somewhat better but still having to turn my head right to even try to get into focus. Tried for a few days and returned. Eye strain, headache, and blurred vision. May 24th, I went back for the fourth attempt and was put with Mitch. He was aware it had been 8 weeks at this point and assured me it will will be great. He measured and marked again as Lydia had done previously. He gave me his card and said to only ask for him in the future. Again, I was told it would be done by the end of the week. I had all the bells and whistles transition, progressive anti scratch, anti-glare, trives. He only remade the left lens. After calling for several days and being told Mitch was busy fixing a machine, I left messages two days in a row. On the third call a nice lady told me they will be done tomorrow. June 8th, I went in to pick up the ONE pair of glasses. Focusing was still an issue. I was told to wear only that pair and nothing else to adjust to them. I really tried, but they really strained my eyes, gave me a headache and my reading vision was still blurred. Forget about watching TV with them on. On Friday June 11th I went to Stuart Eye to pick up my contacts. While there I inquired why can't I see properly. Upon examining the glasses, I was advised the left lens was mounted crooked to my pupil and the distance between the two lenses was wrong for where my pupils are. Plus, the anti-glare was only on one lens. I asked if my brain will ever adjust and was told no, she wrote a letter with the errors and advised the lenses should be remade. I called into your store to advice the verdict. Lydia told me to come in Monday. June 14th, I went in. Mitch said we will remake again to their measurements. He told me they were not going to add the anti-glare until I was happy with the lenses which is not true. I stated I am over it; you are obviously not able to make them, plus why would I agree to have the lenses sent out again which would be a fifth time. My personal time and frustration is more valuable than driving back and forth and waiting for service. He told me I have two options; they will remake or issue a store credit. What am I going to do with a store credit when you have NOT been able to make the glasses that I can see out of? Then he went into we have been in business for 40 years. I have since learned my prior glasses had a wider reading area which is newer technology on transition lenses which is why I never had a problem with my previous glasses made elsewhere. I was told the only person that could issue a refund was the semi-retired owner. He comes in once a week and will call me within a week. That was two weeks ago and $518 dollars for just the lenses that are useless to me. I had no problem paying for the frame. I do have a problem with $518 and my time and frustration! I left another message today....... Meanwhile, I had a pair of glasses made at Stuart Eye. They took a week and a half, and I can see perfectly. Exact same prescription, bells and whistles. read more

I walked out, without hesitation, because of their shady sales tactics. There's the retail price, then "our price". If you want to use your insurance, the won't give you "their" price, which was almost a $200 difference for the frames looking for. They penalize you if you want to use your insurance. the quality of the lens and workmanship was horrible and I had to go elsewhere to have them redone while out of state because they literally had fallen out of the frames and didn't fit my second pair either. The store examined the lens when I got back to Fl and agreed they were not made correctly yet refused to refund my money for them. UPDATE as of 12:30PM today Monday November 6, 2017 - the Owner of the Store called and has agreed to refund my money for the poor manufacture of the lens. I respect his professionalism and desire to make good on his work on the original lens. read more

They lure you in with fake sales. They are not the best as far as getting your prescription correct.

The epitome of incompetence! A full month of back and forth with the people at Schmidts... 2 eye exams (first one was incorrect and resulted in 2 bad pair of glasses). 3rd time remaking them, the technicians ordered the same, incorrect prescription.... again! First 3 attempts the distance vision was off. The 4th (and final) attempt had the reverse. The distance was OK but I couldn't read with them. While there yesterday, the gentleman on my left was in because his new glasses were wrong - they'd put his wife's prescription in his glasses. And the woman to my right was picking up two pair. One was correct but they're having to redo her 2nd pair. Enough is enough. After a month and 4 tries I asked for a refund. The "manager" kept me there to listen to what she called "my options". Bottom line.... she wanted to try a 5th time (no, thanks)... and finally consented to a refund - but only for the cost of the frames. She explained how generous they'd been in not charging me for all the re-do's (necessary because of their incompetence). She said I'll have to dispute the rest of the charges with my credit card company. Really?! While there several times over the past month I've heard long-time customers asking about Mr. Schmidt and it seems he may be at least semi-retired - flying his airplane to the Bahamas with his family (God bless him). Maybe when he was more present he built up a loyal customer base but I wonder if he has any idea what's happening in his store these days? This review is just for repair service - but the experience was better than what I have ever had before from any optometrist. And that I am in the process of moving to the Treasure Coast, yes I will move my business to Schmidt's. This past Monday 03-02, after returning from the beach, I was putting on my regular glasses, when I felt an unusual weakness in the right temple of my supposedly un breakable titanium eyeglass frame. Yep it turned out to be a clean break. First stop was the optical shop at the nearest big box retailer (headquartered in Arkansas) the tech was honest - there was nothing they could do to help, but sell me a new pair of glasses with an 8-10 day wait. Next stop was Schmidt's. After a brief explanation at the customer service desk; there was a couple minute wait when, we were greeted by "Randy" who took one look and said that he could order the part; that it would be two or three days, and that he had a spare temple piece that would fit. We were out the door in less than 15 minutes. Fast forward to Wednesday morning, and at 11:30 my phone was ringing with a local Stuart number- yep, it was Schmidt's. The part was in, and I was asked to stop by so that they could complete the repair. Total time in the store was less than 20 minutes; and I was thanked as if I was a long term customer for my business... In this case I wasn't a long term customer; but I will be! read more
