I saw 2 different providers and needless to say I was not at all happy with the care I received. So the search continued... I had my first appointment with Dr. Marie Monticciolo in Rocky Hill yesterday. I felt that I needed to complete a review for the entire process, start to finish. From the time I called to schedule my appointment until the time I scheduled my next appointment was completely fabulous!! The staff at the desk were SO friendly. Dr. Marie Monticciolo also was so friendly... and knowledgeable...and thorough! She took me into her office first, and went through all of my active diagnoses and medications... then took me across the hall to the exam room and did a full assessment. I needed to make a follow up appointment per her request for something she was concerned about. She gave me some papers I'd need from her to have a few things done like blood work, and I was on my way!! The appointment took about an hour and I sincerely feel positive! She made me extremely comfortable and listened to!! I would highly recommend her to anyone whose looking for a PCP. A+ from office staff to Dr. Marie Monticciolo !!! Both her and her…read morehusband (Richard Monticciolo, MD) run an internal medicine practice where one on one patient care is not seen as an inconvenience but as an integral part of their treatment philosophy. Prior to initiating treatment with Dr. Monticciolo, I was treated with several physicians through Hartford Medical Group. However, I was finding it increasingly hard to get an appointment, and once I did I found that I spent longer in the waiting room than actually having a consult with my physician. Many times I was not even seen by an M.D. but his or her PA. Regardless of who saw me, half the appointment was spent reviewing my medical history before getting to why I was actually there. I felt that I was a co-pay and not a patient and upon that realization I knew it was time for a change. Since I have begun to see Dr. Monticciolo, I have ALWAYS been treated by her. The practice is small (just her and her husband) and there is not a lot of frills to their office. You will not find your medical records stored electronically or fancy diagnostic tools, but what you will find is a doctor that knows her patients, is willing to talk (yes - talk) with them in her office before the examination, and refer you to another physician if she feels it is necessary. My medical records may be handwritten but I know that they have all been meticulously written by Dr. Monticciolo who - from the routine wellness visit to more serious matters - will give me sound medical advice and excellent patient care.

Pardon the vague language to follow. -The EMR: No more impossibly illegible doctor handwriting here! (a travesty I deal with daily as a healthcare professional myself). All your info is on the computer... even though I hadn't seen Dr. Cohen for 18 months (my fault, insurance issues), he was familiar with my case, and we were able to pick up where we left off. -Like a good auto mechanic, he only recommended diagnostic testing that he really felt I needed, and excluded anything I didn't. Considerate of my health, my time, and my wallet... way to hit three birds, Doc! -Always happy to discuss non-central issues. Though my visit was for a different reason, I happened to mention my desire to wean myself off of Prilosec while managing my persistent heartburn [I suppose I don't mind revealing THAT about my medical history], and he provided valuable advice. -A consummate professional. Dr. Fanti has been my dad's primary care doctor for at least five years and before Dr. Fanti came on to the practice, Dr. Egelhofer was his doctor. They've both been great and so has the entire practice. They are extremely patient with my dad and me, his caretaker, and always get back to us with answers to any questions we have. Dad also appreciates the extra service they have where someone checks in with him via telephone once a month to see how he's doing and then reports to Dr. Fanti. Dad feels very well taken care of and I agree with that assessment. Good folks, great service.

Finding a good Lyme doctor is tough, it's a controversial area of treatment and there are a lot of treatments that seem to be taking advantage of sick people. I felt very informed and thoroughly listened to in the appointment and feel like Dr. Horowitz's team does a good job of combining traditional medicine with supplements and dietary advice to help deal with Lyme.

Refills are not called in until after hours, making a second trip to town frustrating, especially when your refills are not called in as stated. My last doctor did my refills immediately. Also the office has plug in air fresheners in every outlet. Place reeks! Even with a mask the smell is overwhelming. Very bad for those with asthma or pulmonary conditions. The doctor is so overbooked the wait has become at least an hour in the waiting room then more time in the little room, trapped with the dreaded air freshener.
