Accommodations - 4 stars. Quiet room, comfortable bed, temperature control. The shower is small, and the towels weren't great, but overall it was fine. Clean, they give you a kettle and some tea bags (and powdered coffee if you drink it). There's an Apotheke and a small grocery store about a block away. Close to the subway and several bus lines.

The floor-to-ceiling windows were nice, even if the view of the office building on the other side of the street wasn't so special. A neat touch was the semi-hidden space to hang up our clothes, so much more practical than big closets (see photo). Wifi was fine both in the room and in the lobby and of course free (hotels seemed now to have learned not to charge for wifi). Since we're no fans of buffets and since our very reasonable rates didn't include breakfast, we didn't have the chance to eat in the friendly lobby/breakfast room/bar combination area. As others have mentioned, this Novotel is centrally located not far from two of the main plazas: Potsdamer and Alexander. What we realized later was that the address, Fischerinsel, is exactly accurate: the hotel is really on an island as we can testify having walked over bridges in both directions. And without crossing any bridges you can visit northern part of the island, which appropriately enough is called Museuminsel and has UNESCO World Heritage status.

It was my first time visiting Berlin, and although some of the locals were outright rude while taking the subway/train, it was fairly easy to get around as the hotel is right off the subway line. Lots of places to eat and ALL within a walkable distance. You walk through a trail, where there are a lot of bikers and runners. Not sure if you want to risk walking at night, as the area can be fairly dark and not 100% sure how safe it is by yourself.

Overall, we had a pleasant experience despite some recommendations for improvement. The pros and cons of the hotel are as follows. Pros: 1) Excellent location Located in the Mitt area of Berlin, The Mandala Suites is in an excellent location with the train station Stadmitt within 1-2 minutes walk. In addition, the hotel is close to some upscale shopping and wonderful restaurants. The restaurant The Maximillans is near the ground floor of the hotel, and it offers delicious German food with a generous portion. The chocolates Raush, Neuhaus, and Landeros are also close by. 2) Spacious room with balcony and kitchenette One outstanding feature of the hotel is its spacious room. Our hotel room is more like a suite (500 square feet), with a bedroom, living room, kitchenette, balcony, toilet room, shower room, and wonderful closet space. It is also quiet despite unless an ambulance drives by. 3) Amenities The amenities offered are good, with gym, saunas, and a laundry room. The laundry room is free to use and comes in handy during a long vacation. Cons: 1) Awkward hours (needs to improve) The reception office is open 8 am to 8 pm during weekends and reduced hours during the weekend. If the reception office is closed, there are extra hoops to jump through if you need to check in during off hours. In addition, all amenities (gym/saunas/laundry) are unavailable if the reception office is closed. 2) Limited selection at breakfast buffet The breakfast buffet is mostly cold food, such as cereals, yogurt, fruits, cheese, ham, and bread. Guests can have hard-boiled eggs and beverages made to order, but the kitchen will not offer scrambled eggs or warm toast. 3) Small gym and saunas The gym is quite small with three to four machines for cardios and 2 weight benches with free weight. The saunas are also small, and you will need to notify the reception office to turn it on 30 minutes in advance before use. Our room rate was $280 a night with breakfast buffet included. The staff are friendly and helpful. The awkward hours make travel planning inconvenient, as one can not use the gym or the laundry except if you stay in the hotel during the day, which makes no sense during vacation. If the hotel will adjust their operations hours, I would highly recommend!

Service was top notch. My room was very simple and at first I felt a bit disappointed and cold. But upon returning in the night the room was warm and the myriad of features revealed themselves. I pointed it out to the staff at reception and they seemed genuinely concerned and said they would look in to it. One day is fine but two days in a room it's starts to look like a systemic problem. East Side is like a haven for hipsters, with charmingly playful colour schemes and eccentric photography dotting the walls. Our room was fairly large, and amazingly, the bathroom was nearly the same square footage. The staff thankfully granted our request to have a room facing the iconic Berlin Wall, which made for fantastic people watching, even in the deluge of autumn rainstorms. East Side is within convenient walking distance from some of the city's best bars and restaurants, which meant we didn't bother taking the U-Bahn until the second day of our trip.

Absolutely ideal for weekend away with a healthy dose of clubbing and a nice space to recover and gloat over the British medal haul at the Olympics! I might add - breakfast @ EUR12 isn't that cheap, but the setting was great (in Shiro nextdoor), and everything about it was perfect. Lux 11 is right in middle of the action - in Mitte, just a stone's throw from Alexanderplatz - and so, 5 stars in my book.

The hotel room was clean with good internet access and easy to access outlets. I loved having a towel warmer and a regular walk-in shower. They had great bath soaps as well. I was in room 103 and my only issue is that the room never felt bright enough for my standards even with all lights on. The windows in each room are very slim so you don't get a lot of daylight access. They had breakfast offered for a few although I did not take advantage of this. First stay with the Accor brand and based on this will stay again.
