The shiuttle uses small buses to shuttle people between the main airport and a large number of city hotels. It does so reasonably fast and comfortably, and even has on-board wifi. At EUR 16, it is a lot cheaper than a taxi, but also a lot more expensive than the train; in fact, I would recommend using them if you're not staying close to a train station, but to use the train (which stops in an underground station immediately under airport departures) if you are within five to ten minutes from a train station.

I made sure to ask what we needed to do and if they could take all 4 of us traveling together and to the same hotel. I was told it was not an issue and all we had to do once at the airport to hotel was to go to platform....# and they would have a bus there. OK. I also had to call since our flight was late due to Schipol airport having no fuel :/ and we had book our seats for 1:30 but we ended up there at 2:30pm. so we get to the platform and we wait...... wait...... bus/vans come and go and then I see a guy holding a clip board... so I go up to him and tell him we are late but we had 4 seats reserved. He then wrote it down and said ok. Nothing more was said. This was unexpected as I was told to nothing about this. Another van shows up and leaves w other ppl on it, some that had just gotten there a minute before....van after van goes by and we wait. I once again go ask this guy how this really works... and this is what he told me -it went something like this- "Since you are 4 passengers I have to get ppl going the same way but have to fill the bus full w their seats so until we get ppl going the same way that will get the van or bus as full as possible. Otherwise I dont think the company would be very happy just to send a few in a van, so you will have to wait. " I felt very awful because I was the one that picked this connexxion service and it was a screw up.... I apologized to the other travelers with me. I felt so bad..... It was a big turn off, first having to wait at the airport but that I knew could happen but this waiting for the bus for others going my way was new. Each time he would call out a hotel (Yelling the hotel name's was when you knew it was your turn) ppl got on but seemed like it was not ours... so when he would call out a hotel we would reply with "did you say... or did you mean...... and we would say our hotel name. In the end it took 10 minutes of just seeing ppl that just got there before us to go on their journey and we had to stay and wait..... Ten minutes is not a big deal and would have been so ok with it if only* it would have been explained and told to us. So I wonder why the whole "you must book a time" since it dont matter ..they go by their time. I would NEVER use this service again. We saved 25 euros by taking this bus but honestly I felt lied to and I would rent a private or a cab ride next time. It was by far the worse service (car or shuttle) that I have ever had in the world. Drivers were good tho, the first van we took I felt a bit WTF but the van back was nicer and much more comfy. HOWEVER they do advertise that they have WIFI on every bUs/shuttle but never managed to connect on #1 and on the second bus the other passenger asked about the WIFI and he was told that "the van does not have any" . So yeah.... unless I really was stuck I would have to use them again then yeah otherwise.... I would use any other service out there.

The fees are very much clear on line, so you don't have to worry about any dodgy behavior.

Most of the experiences we had here were solid, with the exception of going through immigration…read moreupon arrival. The KLM Crown Lounge was spacious and well-appointed. We did have to wander around quite a bit to find the bar that contained liquor, but we were persistent! Airport was clean and all employees we encountered were pleasant. We waited about an hour and a half in a very hot line to clear immigration. None of the self-service kiosks were open. When the Schengen line was totally clear, I hoped they would start taking people from our line; no such luck. The gentleman who helped us was nice, but it took way too long to get to him. It is very convenient that the train station is right there in the airport, though I wish the platform system was made a bit more clear no the kiosks when buying tickets. For those of us who don't have this type of transit in our home cities (Los Angeles), it made transportation tough. In fact, we got on the wrong train and what should have been a 15 minute ride from Schiphol to Centraal became an hour-long detour in the broiling heat.

I think I should divide this review based on departures vs. arrivals. This is from the perspective…read moreof a US citizen. Arrivals: We were warned that the lines would be long because the EU was launching a new biometric system where we put our fingerprints and passports into this machine thing and then that should let you past the gate and into the rest of the airport. it works for the most part, except my friend had issues getting through as her passport didn't get recognized. They pulled her aside for questioning. I waited near the exit wanting to shout "She's real, free my friend." but I figured I'd get in trouble. But 5 minutes later she came out of the gate. Then we waited in this massive room to grab our luggage. We noted so many pretty what is equivalent to TSA workers, even the security guards looked like models. Why can't we have that back home? Then we walked out of this massive airport and then we got our ride into Amsterdam Departures: We arrived 2.5 hours before our flight to Edinburgh and if we have waited in front of the massive queue to check in our luggage, we would have missed our flight. We opted for the check in machines. It took a bit to figure out, but I'd pick it over the big line. Then there was another massive line for security. The security is 2 parts - one to check your carry on and then another to check out of the country. this part almost cost us the flight because despite the various signs - people wouldn't empty their water bottles or liquids - or forget to take out the chargers and laptops - it was frustrating. They also dont show the gate until an hour before so you have to run if its on the opposite side. I think it's an EU/UK thing, because this was a common occurrence in Amsterdam, Heathrow, and Edinburgh. Then I had to run and I ran!! I ran so deep into the airport - thank god for those walking escalator things - it helped cut the time in half. And once I got on my plane I was huffing and puffing. But we all managed to make it in time. long story short: for international flyers - go 4 hours early, bring running shoes, and good luck.
