First time at the this barbershop as a walk in. It was on a Saturday morning, approximately 915 or so. I had been looking for a place that could provide a consistently good haircut, no long waits and reasonable hours. Its hard to be flexible with your time. Anyways, I walk in and its empty...just me and the barber. Interaction was quick and to the point, I wasn't really looking for a smile at 9am anyway. I was tired and I am sure she was too, not adding the fact that it was already blistering this damn early on an August summer day. Anyway, I sat in her chair and told her how I do my hair (mid skin fade). Bam, like magic what felt like 5 minutes (probably closer to 25/30) it was over. It was probably the quickest haircut of my life!!! But damn Did I love the efficiency. She asked me if I liked it, I smiled, nodded and responded great. Decided to get out of the house today for some ME time. Went searching for a shave & a haircut. Quick Google search turned up Schenectady Barber Shop. Walked in to neighborhood shop that reminded me of Adinolfi's on Beekman Street in Saratoga where I grew up as a kid. This place was larger though but still had that neighborhood feeling as there where kids playing out front with their mothers. Was actually greeted by an 8 year old kid out front that asked me " hey mister, you gettin a haircut?" Inside, I was welcomed by Jorge who sat me right down & was treated to a good old straight razor shave. Jorge commented that it was a good thing to do every now and then and I concur. Jorge carefully shaved my face after applying various lotions & treatments, & hot towels. After the shave I got a touch up haircut. PROS: The haircuts were extremely well done and the pricing was about 10 - 15 dollars for one. The customer service if great as well. CONS: When there is a waiting line, it is ridiculous because there are only 1-2 barbers ever there. The place is a little messy and the children are rambunctious and twnd to ruin the atmosphere they try to portray. The barbers there seem to be a bit lazy in the way they carry themselves and come off very unprofessional as well. * I switched to Patricks barbershop on union street. Definitely a far better atmosphere and haircut. read more

There is a reason why this place has 5 stars. It is not the most glamorous shop set in not the most glamorous area but once you step in the door you are made to feel very welcome. Jorge gave me a fantastic shave and tidied up my hair as well. He took his time, was careful and left me feeling and looking great. It was the perfect birthday present to myself. He went over and above to make sure I was taken care of. When he found out that I had walked a long way on the snow covered sidewalks to get to the shop he offered me a ride home. This place is like haircut roulette .... I went once and was thoroughly impressed, and then got absolutely butchered the following two times with "it needed it" and "definitely did the right thing" as justifications toward me not thoroughly enjoying the absolute annihilation of my hairline, the evenness of my hair, and the way I will look for weeks to come. For a similar price, it is worth going somewhere that will make you actually somewhat enjoy how you look. For a place with a sign saying "If we can't make you look good, you're ugly"... there is no fine print in that sign for leaving and actually looking WORSE than when you came in. Like previously stated, it's hit or miss... you may find a good cut, but theres a greater chance of disappointment. disregard the previous reviews marveling at Schenectady Barber's greatness, but rather think of the inconsistency you're paying for... read more

I went to my previous barber for over 30 years. A few months ago, I went here for the first time because my dad used to go here and I told him I would go with him some day. I just kept promising him I would join him but unfortunately he passed away before I made it there. Well, like I said, I finally made it here a little while back and returned today for the second time. The owner is great and again, an outstanding hair cut at a very good price. Neck shave, hot towel, and scalp massage completed a wonderful experience. Jorge is the effin man! Now that it said I can give my review. After moving I needed to find a good barber. I tried 3 places in Scotia and they didn't cut my hair correctly. So I called Jorge and told him what I usually get and he said come in and give me a try, if you don't like it then the cut is free. Well let's just say this, I've been going back to him ever since. Jorge did a great job. I haven't had my hair cut in 10 years! I had a job interview and needed my shoulder length locks cut. Came in from out-of-state and am going to be here for a couple weeks so I knew I needed to get a haircut in unfamiliar territory. Away game haircuts can be nerve-wracking.
