Exceptional service both on initial phone contact, then with the technician (Travis) who did the work. Called in the morning; work completed in the afternoon. Efficient and friendly, with problem solved. read more

Great service that was provided quickly when we had a small emergency. While our house was getting the roof done, the roofers damaged wiring shutting off power. It required a big job and Schafer came thru quickly. In less than 36 hours we had the wiring fixed which gave heat to a family right around the holidays. I'd give 10 stats if possible. The value was amazing considering it was so last minute. read more

At the conclusion of a remodel of a rental property I was told by my insurance company that I needed to rewire the building and install a new panel. Ben Schafer came to job site immediately and understood the problem of tearing open a newly remodeled building. He reassured my contractor the walls would be modestly breached, and kept his word. Also he explained the problem of working with PG&E and their calendar. Somehow he made that happen in a timely fashion. Ben is a reasonable guy and a great communicator. I would not hesitate to recommend him! read more

We requested a quote to have or old service panel replaced. We wanted the flexablity to add solar, and back up power in the future. They found the perfect panel that fit our current and future needs perfectly with a solar ready panel with plenty of room to add new electric appliances and EV chargers. They also took care of all permits and inspections. Great service, value and professionalism. read more

Ben and his team are The Best! Even though he has several crews, you are treated like yours is the only job that matters. Ben himself, and his techs, have helped me through the years. Every time, they are responsive and listen to you and ask you about your needs. For what you pay and what you get, they deliver a great value at a fair price. Just recently, they replaced the builder installed thermostat that I had always had trouble operating. I asked for a simple, straightforward thermostat unit that would not be another "SMART" item in my life. (The phone, my watch and car are already way smarter than me!) Ben recommended one to me and his service tech, Travis, installed it when he arrived. I will always want to do business with a company that has its roots in our community and cares about the people they service, as well as their reputation. If you are new to the area, you have just found your new electrician! read more

I hired Schafer Electric to shorten an existing outside electric line. Their employee came over and realized he needed one fitting that he didn't have with him. He had the 1/2 inch and 1 inch fitting, but needed the 3/4 inch. He ran to the hardware store 15 minutes away, but was gone for an hour as he told me he restocked the truck. When he returned he finished the job in about 40 minutes. I was originally billed for 3 hours of work. I spoke to the owner about all of the the above, including the restocking of the truck, and he still told me that they would bill for 2 hours as they charge for the time the driver was getting parts. Invoice was for $405 for a job that took approx 1 hour of actual work. read more

Horrible communication. Horrible billing process. The admin staff does not know how to answer questions or listen to customers. Billing practices are horrible. Do not hire these guys for work in your home. read more

Thank you again Schafer Electric! I called to request help from an electrician on Tuesday, November 9, and on Wednesday, November 10 you sent your electrician, Jimmy to help me. Not only was Jimmy friendly, courteous and professional, but he arrived at my home before 11:00 a.m. thank you Jimmy!! The time frame quoted to me was between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. I truly appreciate the service that Schafer Electric provides. I will definitely reach out to them again should I have additional electrical issues! read more

They are my go to!! I have worked with many electricians being in the property management business for almost 20 years. I have used them over a half dozen times in Sonoma. The office answers the phone every time and they always are always able to schedule quickly. Their work is thorough, tidy and professional. Great follow up and all the staff are very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend. read more

This is a great company that we used to install 2 outside electrical outlets to connect to our new retractable awnings that we recently installed. Dennis came out and work around the rain we had and did a terrific job. Very professional and courteous. We would highly recommend this company. read more

We have used Schafer Electric on occasions of both the installation and maintenance of heavy equipment at Duggan's Mission Chapel Funeral Home in Sonoma, CA. In particular, we have had the opportunity to meet and work with Charlie, an electrician with many years of experience. He did all of our wiring, and even made sure all lighting around our equipment was strategically placed. In an emergency situation a few weeks ago, I called and Charlie showed up quickly to remedy a problem we were having--after normal business hours no less, bending over backwards to help when clearly, we would not have been able to function as a mortuary without the specialized help he gave us. He also carries a pleasant disposition and ready to help with whatever you need. As a whole, we rely on Schafer Electric and they are our first choice to keep us operating as normal. Specifically, Charlie is our choice! read more

I can not say enough about the exceptional service I received from Schafer Electric. The electricians were excellent. The followed all safety protocols. Our problem was unique and took a while to solve. They knew the right people at P G & E to contact to correct the problem. A big shout out to Charlie, Tony, and Mr Schafer. read more

We had a fantastic experience with Shafer, from the estimate visit to the project completion. Dennis replaced one ceiling fan/ light fixture and installed a new one in another room. A small project yet we felt that we got the very best treatment! The service and products were great and our project was scheduled quickly and completed perfectly. Dennis was our electrician, he is a consummate professional who went the extra mile for us in every way. We highly recommend Shafer; wonderful company, great people, excellent service. read more

We had an assortment of small problems at our house. We needed a new outlet, had 3 dead outlets, a kitchen appliance had stopped working (power related) and some exterior low voltage problems. Ian came out and took care of everything. He was friendly, explained everything and just did an excellent job. Electricians are expensive and so I was resigned to be big bill but Ian worked very quickly and efficiently so that he was done in just a couple of hours which helped minimize the cost to us. We will definitely call them again for future problems or projects. read more

Right off the bat, take those one stars and take them to the bizank. That's rubbish. You are definately in the right spot if you want quality service by a company that cares. My Mama phoned the other day irate that her power wasn't on. Being I am the power god, she calls me first. Moms is getting a bit up there and she doesn't realize I don't control everything technical. I went into action and googled Sonoma electricians. Well, that's actually a lie, I tried Fitzpatrick first cuz I went to school with Bernie. Cool cat. Anyhow, no answer there and I tried another one and no answer and I am really glad. I called Schafer and told the lady what was up and she said she couldn't have anyone out tonight cuz they went home but the next day at 1. Cool enough, very nice lady. Not more than 2 mins later my phone rings and its them. I answer and she says that someone will be there at 11. Que? That was awfully nice of her to do. Turns out the park was having some issues with power but I wanted them to go out anyhow. Moms lives in an old mobile home and just having a professional, and I stress that word, professional, go out and peep it out. I get a call just before noon and its the owner. He tells me he is there and my Mom already had someone come out and all this but he offered to check it out anyway, telling me my Moms is a Sweetheart. Que? Glad she is nice to you. Guy tells me that the bottom breaker is bad and he has to get one but it wont be til tomorrow but he is only gonna charge us for 1 visit instead of two. Que? Who does that anymore. Who takes one for the elderly. I know who! Schafer. If i get them out there one more time for some reason, they might earn a spot on my Mount Rushmore. Folks it gets no better than Schafer. read more

My tenant accidentally broke the electric power box completely off the side of the house he lives in, power gone, live/hot box... what should I do??? On the corner of the broken box was the sticker for Schafer Electric 707-545-3300, they installed the box +12 years ago for me. I called them up on a Saturday afternoon, left message that I needed some help immediately!!! Ben Schafer/owner called me back & remembered the job he did years ago & agreed to come out survey problem & fix it ASAP. He set up PGE to come out cut off the line, & completely replaced, the box by Tuesday & power restored Wed. PGE hooked it up again. Everything is back to normal thanks to Schafer Electric. Come to find out that during the last 12 years his business has taken off & now does work in Marin, Sonoma & Napa counties now! What a blessing having his business sticker on the corner of the box. My problem became his problem ~ I like that as a customer, having someone that knows his business in every way. I recommend calling him up for any electrical problem BIG or small, NEW or old... I only wish I could leave half a star ( as this place isn't even worthy of one star!) I called this company having seen one of their vans driving around. Called them to schedule a very simple electrical at my home in Santa Rosa, and yes it's roughly an hours distance from where they are located but still?! $600 and the guy was there under an hours time! I call that a rip off! Do yourself ( and your check book) a favor and skip these people who overbill very simple projects. I call that a Con game! Guess next time I'll research future businesses on the internet ( like Yelp) before being taken again! Do your research fellow Yelpers. read more

Ben Schafer installed a ceiling light fixture in our dining room today (11-21-12). He not only is a nice guy, but an excellent electrician. He was quick, neat, and the price was better than most! Having read the previous reviews, both positive and negative, I feel compelled to offer our opinion. Like the most recent positive reviews, we have been working with Tim. When I call to request a service appointment, I specifically request Tim. He is always prompt, or early. Very personable, offers several efficient solutions , explaining cost factors, so we have options if we choose to pick a less costly solution to the project, or if we choose the a more sophisticated " big picture", and probably more expensive, alternative. The people who answer the phone have always been courteous and resourceful, getting back to us quickly to confirm when Tim will be able to get to our project. He does leave a bit of debris, but I would prefer to do the clean up rather than pay electrician's hourly rate for that. I highly recommend you consider Schafer Electric. read more

Schafer Electric provides excellent, professional service. They came out once for an emergency call on a Sunday morning and again to install some lighting. They were on time, fast and did exactly what we discussed in the estimate. No overages for time or materials and we have been extremely happy with the results. read more

We have used Schafer Electric for work at our home in West Sonoma County several times over the last few years for both big and small jobs. They are reliable, excellent trouble-shooters/diagnosticians, and do high-quality installations and repairs. Recently, Ben was at our place when I was not able to be home, and called me to let me know about a problem he saw at our property that was unrelated to the job he was doing. He definitely went "above and beyond" to help. I always recommend them to neighbors who need an electrician. They are number one on my list of best contractors to use. read more

Ben Schafer and Tim added an electrical circuit for us today so we could accommodate our new motorized shade. They were great to with and highly efficient. I live out of the city limits in Santa Rosa, so I have a well. On Saturday evening my water pump was not working so I looked up an electric company since the pump service advised me that it was an electrical problem...my water pumped had been replaced a month prior to this. On Sunday morning I found Schafer Electric on google. I called and spoke to Tim who said he be on his way if the rates where ok with me...Tim was in my property within 30 minutes. He found all kinds of issues do to a bad decision with some solar panels. Tim was able to leave my water pump working and save the weekend. I received an estimate for all the repairs and my work was completed within 4 days. I highly recommend Schafer Electric over any other company here in Sonoma County. I am very satified with their professional and prompt time in which they respoded and resolved my emergency. Thank you Tim. read more

These people are after your money. Nothing is disclosed upfront they just hand you a huge bill. Also they come into your house and tell you all these other things that you need done. They were supposed to call with an estimate after their first visit and never did. They just said the guy is on their way and told me what it would cost and that they already scheduled a bunch of other work, total bill $700! All I wanted was a light in my kitchen fixed! Do not trust them at all. read more

Ben was so dishonest with us -- without our consent tried to charge us a ton of money for a simple repair that he tried to turn into a major project. I rarely write Yelp reviews, and have dealt with many electricians. Ben was just the BEST. He is as knowledgeable, smart, helpful and experienced as they get. And committed to getting things right. He diagnosed a very unusual problem with our lights shorting out, got PG&E on the phone to come look at it while he was here, ruled out other causes, and fixed it. All the while he was patient, polite, kind and a pleasure to deal with. I really feel like I will never call anyone else....Thanks Ben. read more

We called Schafer for our cafe construction project after parting ways with another electrician. Tim showed up promptly, and got right to work. Tim has always been on time, doesn't dally, and completes each step within the timeframe promised. He is thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable. We've met/spoken with many of the Schafer team in the last few weeks and each of them has been equally professional. Our inspector saw Tim's business card on the counter and just glanced at the rough electric, knowing (as did we) that it was all exactly as it should be. Opening a business is one crazy scramble and Tim made the electrical one of the easiest parts. Thanks! read more

If you want a POSITIVE experience, call Schafer Electric. They have the knowledge and POWER to get the job done. Adam came out on time- actually even a little early, checked our power and was nothing but professional. He and Tim worked at our house and did all the dealings with PG&E and the city. Ben came by to check on things, and Sarah was nothing but sweet and helpful. When the bill came, there was no SHOCK, it was exactly as they estimated. I am a caretaker for a 94 year old woman who suffers from dementia. I have been with her for nearly 35 years and in all those years i have made her many service appointments and dealt with many service techs. None have been as bad Schafer Electric. After the initial appointment i waited 2 weeks for someone to actually come and do the work, which never happened. After being put off for this long, i called and informed them i would be calling another tech and would no longer be needing them, which they seemed fine with over the phone. A few days later a bill for $356.00 arrived, stating it had been an 'emergency call' amongst other inaccurate details. As this elderly womans son is not fond of his mother being taken clear advantage of, he wrote the company a note and sent what he felt was 'fair' for the hour their technician spent doing nothing to help her. That was in Feb. and we have not heard one word from this company since. The check was long since cashed and there have been ZERO follow up invoices or calls. Now 6 months later they are calling me, her caretaker and threatening me with collections. They were aggressive and rude to me on the phone and refused to let me give them the proper numbers to the people actually responsible for her financial dealings, telling me "too bad, you made the appointment, it's under your name, we're going after YOU". I tried calling the office back and the gal who answered the phone hung up on me as soon as i told her what my call was regarding. The 94 year old gal is now scared she's, 'in trouble' and i......an employee.....is being threatened with collections. I'm honestly mind-boggled anyone would chose to handle a situation like this. To what point? Awful people who clearly don't care one iota about customer service. read more
