The pros: has a good size, spacious room with a nice bathroom, and everything was clean and properly prepared. They also let us check on an hour and a half early for no extra charge. The cons: not much to speak negatively about besides the bed. It was hard and pure spring and I woke up and my back was killing me. Not the worst bed I've slept on but it might be time for an update.

From the outside, it more or less just looks like an old building. Inside, it's kind of like stepping back in time, to the days when folks built nice hotels with lots of cool architectural details and craftsmanship. But it's actually better than that, because modern amenities like air conditioning that works well are found in today's Winneshiek. Pro Tip - if your room is too warm, ask at the front desk for them to adjust the temperature. They can do a lot more from there than you can in your room, where you only have +/- 3 degrees of control.

Checking in I had to wait for someone to come to the hotel to check me in. My 1st night I had to be moved because of bedbugs and bedbugs bits. Getting up the driveway after it snows is a joke especially when it hasn't been plowed at all and the owners had the nerve to ask me if the tires on my car were good. Yes they are good she said her husband would be back to plow before morning when Im just getting off work and lay some sand down and it never happend. Took me 3 tries to get up the hill because it hadn't been plowed.

This place was a great idea and much cheaper than one of the mediocre hotels in town after we split the cost. It's a very nice setting. I'm docking a star due to the single bathroom and the fact that the bathroom door wouldn't quite close all the way. Otherwise we had a great stay. The firewood pile was a bit light and we inquired about getting more from the owners and they were very responsive and brought us a big pile within an hour. The owners were also very good about our multiple billing since we split the cost five ways.
