There are basically two rows of food here, mostly staples, rice, teas, spices, beans, and the sauces. A very nice selection of exotic hot sauces here, Tamarind Date, Trinidad Style, Red pepper, Hot pepper, and West Indian Sauce just to name a few. The take out or in menu consisted of Jamaican Patties for 2 dollars, and Coco Bread. There is Curried Chicken, Curried Goat, Curried Ox Tail, Jerk Chicken, Curried Chicken, Beef and Goat Roti all for around 10 dollars. All prices are reasonable and there was a small line up of regulars with tons of laughing and island stories spiralling around. It was so contagious we were all laughing in the end and you really did feel like you were sitting on the beach in the Caribbean sipping on your island rum or ginger beer. The owners were so warm and friendly that they gave me a 2010 mini calendar to take home. Ahhhh so nice warming up the soul for a brief moment today.

Arriving a bit late for lunch, I asked if I could get a Chicken Curry. The pleasant lady at the till looked as if to think about it for a brief while before going "uuhmm,okay. But it will be 7 minutes." At the time I thought as if I was asking for something unusual, but this is one of the menu item, and I feel like this just might be the way of the shop The chicken, while deliciously spiced with Jamaican curry was at least half bone and cartilage. There were large masses of chicken but it was still difficult to get a mouth-full without spitting the undesirable pieces back into the styrofoam container. Is this authentic? Unfortunately, I'm too uneducated to say. The atmosphere is laid back and I was the only person without a thick Jamaican sounding accent and I very much enjoyed the food. Technically, this could be a one stop grocery store. But again T&T is also a one stop grocery store too. It does look like a typical Chinese/Asian grocery store. Yes Lambda has been around for a long time. They do close quite early at 7pm. Back in 2017, my issues was that I couldn't make it there at 7pm. Parking is limited here.

First, don't even think about parking in the lot unless you hate your car. Its all SUVs jammed into 'smart-car-sized parking spots... Pay a buck and park on the street. What you save inside will easily pay for it. Prices are way better here, selection is good for fish, meat, produce and all the sauces, spices and condiments you'll find at the big guys. We paid half what we normally pay at T&T for thin sliced pork and lamb today, and found all the fresh veg we needed too. Nice little bakery too. And there were no screaming kids, or people smashing into your ankles with shopping carts. The only thing missing is the hot food counter. I don't need that every time... I think I was addicted to T&T because of having Forbidden City in the same building, but I can easily substitute it with Sun's BBQ (yum, next door) from time to time...

There it was, even the brand I buy locally back home where these stores are literally everywhere. Had a nice long chat with a young guy at the checkout counter about all things Mayacoba and the street taco scene where I'm from. I see from another review they have Colombian coffee on the premises by the cup. Adding that to my list. I love finding a clean, well-run store like this when I'm travelling. Keeps me connected to all things good eating. Highly recommended.

Their produce and meat are fresh due to the high turnover. Also prices are very reasonable here. When I do come here, I try to buy lots, making one trip that would last me for weeks.
