**WARNING** Prices So Low...that's how he hooks and reels you in! Jeremy Cubbage is the owner of Scapes Unlimited. He is nice and personable and really seems to know what he is doing when you meet him and talk about your potential project.
Then you receive a detailed job quote from his fiance (Alicia Diehl) that is meticulous and thorough. I then asked for references...and the one phone number that actually works, will bring you to Mr. Mark Welcher, who will tell you how wonderful of a job Jeremy does. (Pretty sure he gets a kick back or something.) So you decide to hire Mr. Cubbage from Scapes Unlimited.
But that is where the fun ends! Jeremy has no time or money management and extremely poor communication skills. I hired him in April of 2020 to complete two large Eagle Bay hardscaped walls in my backyard. I was told that I should expect the job to take two weeks and I was next on the list after his big job in Waynesboro. The projected completion date was the end of May 2020. May 2020 came and went...so did June...then July arrived. Finally, on July 20th, Mr. Cubbage showed up without letting me know and demolished the existing retaining wall. He returned on the 22nd to create the footers for the two new walls.
I was unhappy with the close proximity of the bottom wall to the top tier and he gave me excuse after excuse about zoning and engineers, etc...this ultimately turned out be a lie.
Then that was it...my backyard, where my kids play, had been turned into a work site. Mr. Cubbage did not return to the job site until October 10, 2020. All the while, he would text me excuses as to why he couldn't be there.
When he finally showed up, again, unannounced, he constructed the walls where he wanted them. I wish I had known more about the process at that time, because I would have realized then that he was not doing any of the things he should have been doing with the materials he claimed he would use. For example, no drainage (black corrugated pipe) was installed behind the wall...no geo-grid installed behind the wall...and certainly not 12" of gravel backfill to ensure proper drainage.
How do I know these things were never done...the soil being held by the wall has significantly eroded/compacted down, leaving tiers exposed deep into the ground. Additionally, between progress photos and calling out 3 other Hardscape companies to come and evaluate...the work is dangerous and will not hold up long term.
And oh...the job was still not completed in October of 2020. Nope...despite emailing, begging, giving him more money to purchase materials from a different vendor that he didn't have an existing contract with...etc...it wasn't until I contacted the VA General Attorney's office that I finally got a response. The job was completed on April 21, 2021.
Maybe you are asking...why didn't I just hire someone else...well...he already had 1/2 of the job cost up front. In reaching out to other companies...they would charge me an exorbitante amount of money just to tear down what Mr. Cubbage built and then even more to rebuild...we are talking an easy $50,000 just to undo the mess he made!
If you have made it this far...you should also know that on his website, he advertises himself as a Class A Licensed Contractor....but the Attorney General's office stated that he is not licensed. Don't believe me? Ask Jeremy for his License Number and go to DPOR's website to look it up:

This is one of those things where, when the price seems too good to be true...I promise you it is!
I have emailed and texted Mr. Cubbage on May 31, 2021 when the ground behind the wall was already sinking down and was brushed off...and then again on June 10, 2021 with no response, on August 17, 2021 and lastly today, August 26, 2021. After my attempts to reach him to resolve this problem have gone on deaf ears...I've decided to let everyone that may want to hire him know what it is that they are actually getting.
