Located at Plaza Bugambilias in Ajijic, two lakeside natives with extensive restaurant backgrounds in the United States opened Scallion Ajijjic Bistro about 3 years ago. Reservation is highly suggested especially on nights with live music which my partner, his family, our friends and I did and came yesterday for dinner. Upon entering our table was well spaced seating outside under cover at a pack house. Our server was Aurelio. Our meals started out with complimentary garlic toasts and Bruschetta. For appetizers, some had the Roasted Beef Salad and the Greek Salad. For entree, we ordered Waygu Beef Burger, Fettuccine Al Funghi, Fettuccine Al Pesto, Rigatoni Bolognese, Salmon Nakinuki Style and Grilled New York Steak with Mixed Mushrooms. It saddens us to give a 3 star rating. I will explain and hope it was just a bad day, because it seems people like this restaurant. Our friend called to make reservations and explicitly asked for Gabriel. Unfortunately we got someone else. Our server asked one of us who orders salmon how he wanted cooked. He replied well done. The server further asked how about extra crispy and our friend replied yes but it came out more rare. Don't know if our server was miss informed but we are sure the cooks would have told him resulting in our friend making frequent trips to the bathroom. As with most Mexican restaurants, the dining experience is a slow burn. Nothing is hurried and a very relaxing atmosphere where friendly, fun chatter and ambiance are on full display. One of the owners, Erick made his rounds to chat with every table. So, if you are an expat wanting the familiarity of 60-70's rock classic standards, familiar food this is your kind of place. However, we can't recommend this. read more
