All of the professors have educations from quality schools, are very helpful. All my professors have been simultaneously active in their field of practice and exhibiting their art while teaching. I haven't had a single bad professor yet.
The facilities are stuffed with great gear for students to take advantage of, and rightly so. The high tuition cost is paying for these classrooms full of new computers, Intuous drawing tablet displays, extremely expensive printers, crazy printing presses, woodworking equipment, screen printing facilities, and so on.
The variety of classes is actually really great. There are a lot of options available to me as a graphic design student, and I have the opportunity to learn more than I ever thought I could or wanted to.
The classes can be really difficult, and that's a GOOD thing. If you want to see yourself ahead of the curve, you need to be challenged and whipped into shape, and SCAD can do that for you. I've always found there to be a lot of work, but I'm perfectly okay with it, as it pertains to my life goals and career path. I know the work is necessary and that I'm learning a lot, and that makes my hours and hours of work feel like progress instead of "work".
The student demographic runs the full gamut of variety. There are loads of international students and people from all across the world that come to SCAD; it's certainly a plus to become exposed to all walks of life.
The food isn't that great. Too many vegetarian/vegan options water down straight-forward comfort foods that nearly everyone enjoys. As an example, if it's mac and cheese, it has some kind of vegetable surprise like carrots and peas thrown into it instead of just making it with macaroni and cheese. The only constants are burgers, chicken sandwiches, pizza, and portabello mushroom burgers as far as hot food goes. Test the food out before you decide on a meal plan, or one might already be required for student housing.
Student housing is adequate and okay. There are two locations: one "on campus" location called Spring House that's a re-purposed holiday inn, and an off campus location about 5 minutes down the road called ACA house that's located in the back corner of the high museum of art's campus. I lived in ACA house for a couple quarters and it was really small and expensive, but you did get more scholarship bonuses from living there so that could be a potential deal-maker for a lot of people.
Overall, SCAD Atlanta is a great school. I gave it 5 stars based on the professors, curriculum, and facilities alone, outweighing all other negatives. I'm glad I'm here. read more
