Resting over La Playa field SBCC

If you are like me and you like to run this track is state of the art. I used to run on this track even before they put the new stuff and but now it is amazing. I like to hit it about a half hour before sunset so that when I am finishing my run I can watch the sunset and then run the steps. There are always lots of students and friendly locals on the track and the view is just absolutely phenomenal. You can arrive without two dimes in your pocket and walk away with a million-dollar view! Somethings in life are still free and this is one of the seven wonders of Santa Barbara

Great swim club. I am an avid masters swimmer...so I am inpressed to say the least everytime I swim…read morehere. First the pool is right near the beach. you can do backstroke and see palm trees! Second. It always has a QUALITY coach on deck. Not just running through a board with a work out on it. They are experienced coaches who care. It is clean and easy to get to. If you are traveling and want to swim a %) meter practice...come on over and check them out. Great place o swim and enhjoy.

Our move to SBSC was about increasing their pool time and being part of a team. This is definitely a high performance program and not a play-time at the pool. Meets are competitive and can be intense for beginner swimmers (and parents) until you get the hang of it. That said, this is a controlled environment for young athletes to really challenge themselves and learn about setting goals and accomplishing them even when they "don't feel like practicing today." I guess that would be the self-discipline muscle grouping getting a work out. My husband and I grew up on sports teams so are not squeamish about our kids getting coached and adhering to a structure swim team. I recommend that new parents looking at the program visit a few practices and talk to the coaches first. Other parents are also a resource, so don't be shy about asking them questions also. We purchased a Harbor Parking pass which can be used along the waterfront from Leadbetter to East Beach, so worth the $$$. The surrounding area is the perfect waiting room for parents, so bring your running shoes or bike to work out while your kids practice. At least four decent coffee houses are within walking distance to pass the time and enjoy SB.

I can't recommend Prevail enough. I spent a year and a half working out here after a sedentary…read morelife, and they've changed me for the better. When I first joined, I was weak and recovering from back surgery. The whole team made me feel welcome and comfortable in the gym despite plenty of self-doubt. They worked with me to focus on my core and help me get back to a baseline fitness level and then exceed it. THe Prevail approach focuses on the whole person. Weak or strong, old or young, small or large, they will customize a workout for you and make you feel welcome and like you can achieve anything. I worked with Chris P. and Kyle during the 18 months or so I spent at the gym and cannot recommend them highly enough. Both trainers were amazing and pushed me when I needed to be pushed, but never harder than I could handle. I am in their debt. Peter, the owner, is very hands on and clearly cares about the results of each and every client. The whole team is beyond anything I could have imagined. If you're wondering if this is the right gym for you, I can assure you that it is. I've had a chance to work with almost everyone on staff and they're all wonderful. The only reason I don't train here anymore is because I've moved out of state. I miss them dearly.

I was missing the strength & conditioning and this class is just what I was looking for. Peter and his team are highly qualified/trained/certified and it shows pretty much immediately. They are very engaged and constantly correcting and reinforcing proper movements versus being left to our own devices or learning bad habits. The location is perfect for me as well as the class time and frequency for my schedule and goals. The class size does not exceed 12 and we have formed a nice camaraderie, I was welcomed from Day 1. There is also nice variety in programming, it's not the same workout every time. -Kyle Opdyke
