This is the largest no-kill shelter in Cincinnati, OH. They take in dogs and cats that other shelters aren't able to properly care for. Most of the dogs and cats get adopted into forever homes. Those that don't have a forever home at the shelter and are well cared for by many volunteers.

First time I met my sweet cat, Batman, at STAF

I adopted a cat from STAF over the summer. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience! All of the volunteers I interacted with were extremely friendly and helpful. They were very knowledgeable about each of the cats. They answered questions about each cat's history and personality. It was clear that the volunteers care deeply about the animals there. I was also impressed by how responsive the organization is! I heard back from every email and phone call extremely promptly. As a first-time pet owner, I feel like STAF really puts forth a lot of effort to help ensure a smooth and successful adoption. You cannot take your cat home on the first day you meet, so you have time to prepare and cat-proof, and be sure that you are ready. My cat was neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped, and I was provided detailed medical records. The small adoption fee includes a very nice carrier and a great starter kit (bags of food, litter, toys, and a small bed inside of the carrier). All-in-all, it was a very smooth and enjoyable process - and I ended up with the perfect cat! I would highly recommend STAF to anyone looking to adopt in the area. It is a fantastic organization and a great asset to the Cincinnati area. I am so thankful for STAF!

As a volunteer and cat parent to two cats adopted from STAF, I can't say enough great things. Volunteering at STAF is so rewarding and only takes an hour or two out of your week (though usually more depending on how much time you want to spend with all the cats). Adopting from STAF is also a great experience, the adoption coordinators are so friendly and make sure you are introduced to all the cats that might be a great fit for you and your home.

For those that don't volunteer here, you probably don't know the situation that many of the dogs and especially cats come in for. If you did, you wouldn't be so critical of their adoption process. That being said, I have volunteered here for over 3 years. And I have personally seen, mostly on the cat side, what horrendous situations many of GOD's beings have come to us from. If you saw them, you would be a LOT less critical of the adoption process.

Volunteer there weekly and got my last dog from there. It's a wonderful place to volunteer and you get to see so many wonderful animals get the homes they truly deserve. Fully donation funded so everyone is there because they really care.

The volunteer took note of it, and when we went back tonight, he'd been treated and was in good health.

Last night, she got up from laying down and was hopping, using only two legs. Yesterday was Easter Sunday and I left a message about the deer. By 8am, a sweet woman called back and said a warden would come see the deer today. By noon, Deputy Mastin was here, evaluating the deer. Deputy Mastin said she was using three legs today! He said she can definitely survive like that. He was wonderful to talk with. I wasn't able to sleep at all last night, thinking of the deer suffering. The reassurance from Deputy Mastin means everything! Cincinnati Animal Care, thank you for being there.

Even if we already have dogs, we will make room for one more, because the shelter is over-full; or because the dog is deteriorating there; or even because the dog is sick and needs a place to convalesce. (Those of you shopping for dogs like they are merchandise may be surprised by this. Yes, people deliberately take home old and sick dogs!). This does make it harder to adopt the dogs in fosters, but *it is better for the dog*. It also allows for a bit of distance between abusers and dogs. Post Script for people who want only bred dogs: read about inbreeding, and then if you still want a dog with genetic problems, go pay a breeder.

This is a BIG shelter and the cat and dog areas are at opposite ends of the building. I didn't hear any barking at all! So many cats here, and you can look through glass to the kitten nursery which is in a separate room. Only $10 to adopt (not sure about for dogs) and it's an easy quick process. I was surprised they didn't want to know if I had other cats, or dogs, at home. I guess they assume you have read the information provided (our new furbaby has lived with other cats but never with dogs or children). If you don't have a cat carrier they have cardboard ones for I believe $7. It was a little disconcerting to find out at the "checkout" that my new cat had in fact not yet gotten the rabies combo shot as he'd only been there two weeks and it was scheduled for upcoming. I have no problem just paying for my vet to do it, but if this is a concern you may want to ask them to verify all the tests/shots were done BEFORE you fall in love. Nice clean place and very nice folks working here. SO many animals looking for a home--adopt, don't shop!

When I insisted that they take responsibility and that they did owe my dog medication for Giardia because nobody disclosed this to me when adopting this puppy they told me that that's my opinion and that I can take him to my own vet or pay at their vet for the treatment even though they kept admitting that this puppy did have Giardia and they were belittling and gaslighting and disrespectful at a time in my life where I am going through a lot, and I have had the patience of a saint, with this puppy, cleaning up his pee every five minutes and taking him outside every five minutes through the night without sleep and trying to train him and now my own dog that I've had for 13 years since the beginning of his life who only weighs 8 pounds is pooping himself to death right now and I have to take him to a vet and pay for treatment for a sickness that I didn't know the dog I was adopting from the league had. They will be rude and they will take zero responsibility. I will 100% admit any time that it's my own fault that I did not sit and look in detail at the paperwork before taking this dog home and the chaos of the adoption. But I will say that the shelter did also admit that they only disclose information on current illness not previous illness if it's been treated. Well, also admitting yes, even if it is contagious after treatment because I asked and the answer I got was yes they will not disclose that if it's already been treated. Be very careful about the details on the pets you adopt because every animal deserves love and every animal deserves a home and and I'm heartbroken to the point of sobbing right now while I'm writing this from sadness and frustration for this poor puppy and my own dog and because my mental health cannot take this right now, and I do not have the financial means to take care of this kind of problem, hardly for my own dog and I'm upset at the fact that at this point for my own health and my child's health and my dog's health that I already had. I have to take this puppy back because of Giardia being contagious for weeks even after being cured and now I have to do even more deep cleaning at home after all of the hard work I've already done cleaning up after him trying to help him get settled in, and my son already fell in love with him, but my son gets sick really easily and my dog gets sick really easily and more I do too so for the sake of my own family's health, I'm taking him back to the shelter and I should've looked into things more and asked about any previous illnesses, but I just thought that the leak for animal welfare was better than that. I'm not giving up on my own dog who could potentially die from this because he's so sensitive to everything and has almost died from previous illnesses. They seemed like really cool people and a really awesome place and it turned out to be very opposite of that. I'm not saying they don't care about animals, but they definitely don't care enough about people. I also wanna make it really clear that I did not yell at them on the phone and all I did was express my feelings and express the fact that they would be upset if they were in my position and someone did this to a dog that they had for 13 years since they were a puppy and wouldn't take responsibility, anyone would be upset in this position. It's wrong and unethical and to hang up on somebody who's legitimately upset, and just begging to be acknowledged as a human and for their own pet that they already had to be cared for instead of being belittled and gaslit, it's all just really devastating
