I've been learning and practicing Tai Chi with Culver City Tai Chi for Wellness for years, and it's…read morebecome one of the best parts of my Sunday morning. Practicing Tai Chi here is a terrific way to reward both body and soul. You soak in the sunlight and connect with nature, surrounded by trees and a warm community of fellow practitioners. The classes are free and perfect for beginners. Angie is an extraordinary teacher who has built a fantastic, supportive community. I can't express enough how much I appreciate this experience--highly recommended!

The calm and focus the practice provides sets my tone for the week. I've tried yoga a bunch of times but the static poses weren't for me. And sitting still to meditate doesn't work for me either. Tai chi is like a moving meditation that allows me to tune out the world and my thoughts (or at least keep trying to--it's a practice). At first, it seemed like a lot to learn, but Angie breaks down the movements step by step and reminds us that "any movement is good movement" in case people are still learning. I used to park myself right behind one of the regulars and follow him, and now I'm one of those regulars myself Even though I've been coming for years, I still find new subtleties in different parts of the form. It has also given me great balance, better than I've ever had in my life. I once took a tai chi course that met inside and was very technically precise. I so much prefer doing it outside in the park. Sometimes I wish for specific critique of my form but we do get that during the periodic intermediate/advanced classes she offers. There are generally anywhere from 25-50 people at a session. It's donation based (cash or Venmo), so free if you want to just check it out. I always give because it's so worth it to me.

We were signed up for only two weeks of this camp and it can't end soon enough (he's only going to have gone 5 of the 10 days because it's that bad). He started toward the middle of the season, but there was zero help with regards to how things worked or where he would go and I did NOT feel good about leaving my son there so I stayed for at least an hour to get him acquainted with things. The counselors are friendly enough and the director is very responsive and helpful which is why I even gave two stars. YMCA is twice as expensive but 10 times better. I regret signing him up for this camp. Free range for your child to have access to limitless junk food if you load their card. Expect bullying, bad language and bad behavior. Have no idea how these other parents rate this so highly.

I was nervous that he would be too old this year (10) to still want to just play all day, but he comes home excited about the activities and the counselors... and TIRED! From what he tells me, there are always various activities that campers can choose from, from dodge ball to arts and crafts. We haven't signed up for any of the extra add-on activities because he is so engaged with the normal day to day things planned. The counselors are very meticulous in the sign in and sign out process, so safely is a minimal concern. Everyone I have come across has been so friendly and helpful, from Alicia in the main office to every counselor I have encountered! I can not say enough good things about this camp! THANK YOU CAMP SHARK!!

I came here after a very big trauma in April 2019. I called ahead and spoke to someone who was very…read morekind regarding my situation and they said this was the place I should be and in the beginning I loved it. It really helped regulate my nervous system And I very much appreciated. Franz and the way he helped guide beginners. What I did not appreciate was a woman who was also a beginner and craved support on an almost competitive level. She was very much attended to and a bit of a trauma dumper. I left for a while because of her, she just kept showing up in my space, but that was my choice to leave. Fast forward to the pandemic I did try to rejoin online and I was met with that same woman who I did try to extend an Olive branch to, since she was struggling and kept "showing up". She was the same trauma dumper, yet didn't remember me. But something that came to light is that I was not allowed to join the book group that she had created. As I got better, I thought about going back in spite of this woman, but then I saw that she is part of faculty Ultimately I decided that a group that would support someone with that behavior, in the way that they did is not the right group for me. I probably should have and I thought about contacting leaders in this group, but at that time, my nervous system was not in a place to defend myself and it's somehow felt small and petty. Better to let her have her way. However, six years later, I see that this is not the Buddhist way, which is the way they follow. I was not shown loving kindness in a time when I really needed it.

Most programs are donation based but they also offer fee-based retreats where you can apply for a scholarship. The facilities are clean and inviting. They serve cold and hot water for tea. You don't need to bring any sitting gear (though you can) as they provide cushions, benches, and chairs. LBM also offers classes online which is super convenient! The community is so welcoming. If you're looking to learn how to meditate or you already have a practice but you want to sit with other people, try one of their classes. I can't recommend this place enough. It has changed my life!
