The backdrop for this shop is a turn of the century drug store that has now been creatively repurposed to meet the needs of any shopper looking for new and some vintage home decor. My favorite part of this shop are the ladders that were used to access items on different shelves at one time. There are two of them made out of wood and cast iron hardware. The store has two levels with the main entry level consisting of mostly modern items that will fit in with the antique farmhouse look. In the back of the store towards the right, there is a set of stairs that will lead you to the upper level where you'll find a large selection of vintage items and household decor. Make sure to take the view once you make it to the balcony, as this is really incredible for what it is. The shop owners were friendly and had a pretty good working knowledge of the building itself. There is a lot of history displayed on the walls and shelves. You're going to need a few minutes to take it all in. If you love vintage decor and small gift items, I would definitely recommend you stopping in on your next visit to Alpena. You'll be glad you did.

Cucumbers, apples, tomatoes, melons, lettuce you name it. It's there and the size is great! Better than you're average Meijer or Walmart produce. They even have bird and animal feed! Trying to get some meat? Boy are they packin! Huge portions and options: steak, chicken, pork, burgers, beef and all things poultry. Impressed was an understatement. If you need some spirits they got what you need! Pints to fifths and more. They have beer, snacks, and other common food staples. It's not your Meijer but what you need food wise is there, definitely give it a go! Worth it! I was very impressed and am sad I don't have one closer to home.

Perch's (right on S.US23 = convenient) is a small family owned grocery store with recent improvements, they just added a cute coffee shop inside the store. Nice touch. The meat counter is very special! Great guys work back there and are eager to help and make small talk while you wait. The meat is the best quality in the area and very reasonably priced. They will de-bone your chicken, split it and skin it with no extra charge. They have a good selection of quality home grown produce as you can see in my pics. Huge brussel sprouts! Best part? They carry Plath's bacon and ham! Nice and clean and I never smell meat rotting like some grocery stores (you know the smell). Very busy at times especially during lunch because they sell homemade lunch items like sandwiches, salads and soups, homemade brownies, carrot cake and lots of other stuff. I just like the small hometown feel serving up impeccable service! Can be pricey but they run good sales, I got a pound of freshly sliced Eckrich (however you spell that!) Hard Salami for $2.99, they had coupons right at the counter running with the sale. It was delicious! Good Beer run place, too!

I found one stamp I had seen in San Diego and liked but it was out of stock so I just bought it here. And I got a little bottle of gold embossing powder. But the real find was about $20 worth of mostly used but some never used stamps at $1-3 each that she was selling to help someone else out. Can't resist a bargain. With the dearth of rubber stamp stores in Michigan, this was a real find. 102711 10/28/16--Here I am almost exactly 5 years later and again I pulled into this parking lot to look up the location of a local knit store LOL. I guess I'm destined to find this store and the one next to it that sells cross-stitch items. Unfortunately the cross stitch store was already closed since it was nearly 6 but I caught the lady in the scrapbooking store before she left for the day and we had a nice visit. I bought about 3 items at 30% off because she is having a going-out-of-business sale. I wish her the the best of luck in her next endeavor!

After your 1st visit you're like family to them. There is a decent selection of men's, women's and children's clothing, a nice accessory selection including Brighton, and plenty of Columbia choices for northern Michigan. Every square inch of this shop is so thoughtfully set up, it's a joy just to look at the displays! There are multiple buildings on site. The two main buildings (one of which is a converted farmhouse- make sure to check out all three floors) house an array of dishware -including an impressive collection of Graniteware- and everything from fishing tools to books and toys. A third building in the back has more kitchen equipment and a fourth building is stocked with antique doors and windows. Prices are reasonable and reflect the quality of each piece. Hours are limited, and change seasonally, so call ahead. Bravo for a fine shop that is worth seeking out!
