I usually come to this place knowing what I want to buy and where to find it in the store. However, this time I came with only the name of the beer and looking for help. We asked the person at the counter and they pointed us in the direction of a gentleman that could supposedly help us. When we asked him to help us find the specific beer, he asked "well what kind?" The type of beer that we were looking for was a Kolsch. Now from what I remember, Kolsch was the name of the beer....or at least it said it on the label every time I've seen it. After telling him the name, he said "no that's a type of beer, what is the name of the beer you're looking for specifically?" Confused, my friend and I said Kolsch again because that is all we knew. He said "well that's a TYPE of beer and we have them all over the store, they're scattered." To which we said "Ok, well why don't you show us the ones you do have." The entire time he was very patronizing and rude. In the end he couldn't find anything that said Kolsch and I was so furious at how he was treating us that we left. The only reason I didn't give this place one star is because every other time I've come to this place, they've never been rude and the sign outside always gives me a chuckle. Aside from that though, I think I'm gonna stick to my friendly neighborhood liquor store from now on. read more

At Sav Mor you save more! Seriously, the difference in price between here and and my go-to places in Central Sq (Libbys, Supreme) can be staggering. I've bought liters of goose here for 20 bucks before. At the very least, you can expect to save 5-10 bucks per handle here over any other liquor store in the area. read more

I will admit that I tend to place more importance on getting the best price over how a place looks. Basically SavMor is the Market Basket of booze. I go here for one reason, a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black at the best price I have found in Somerville. I don't care that they keep it locked away in a dusty plastic case. Sold me 2 six-packs of Czechvar on Feb 21 2010 that had expired in June 2009!!! I called to let them know they should remove it from their shelves and I got attitude! I didnt ask nor was I looking for a refund as my party had already consumed them, just wanted to let them know. Stupid people have lost a regular customer as their attitude was piss poor. Great selection, helpful staff, but their product/inventory is as old as dirt. If you go here get the quick selling beer and wine. The liquor is fine, no complaints there. However, I've given this place opportunity to change my mind but after picking up 3-6 packs of old nasty beer, 2 craft single bottles of old beer and 2 bottles of skunked old wine with brittle corks I'm done! I don't normally rate liquor stores, but then again I don't normally buy kegs. I just got back from returning one and the entire experience was pleasant. The staff is friendly as long as you respect what they have to put up with every day. I got a great deal on a half barrel of PBR and they even helped me put it in my car, which was great. This liquor store is the one I usually go to now. They have pretty much anything you can think of. The prices vary but usually it's a fair price. I wouldn't say you save more though lol. They have a giant freezer in the back with all the 30 racks that you can walk into which is great on a hot summer day. I won't lie the place is a bit beat up but what's that matter when you are just looking for some booze? You aren't eating here or anything lol. The staff is always nice. My visits are usually quick but lines do happen on the weekends. I love the huge sign outside that they have and change up frequently with funny sayings like "Valentine's Day BLAH BLAH BLAH Drink!" haha. First things first, the sign is usually hilarious. They got an extra star solely for that. It's big and has a large selection of beer(both craft and the cheap stuff) but it doesn't feel particularly well 'curated'(yes, I'm going to be that pretentious). It seems like they just buy a bunch of whatever the beer reps suggest and just throw it on the shelves. I don't get a real sense of love towards the product here. The employees don't seem particularly interested, either. I'm not expecting them to treat me like their new best friend but it's always nice when you get more than a grunt and a 'do you need a bag?'. read more

Cheap prices and great selection. Yes, it's better since they renovated it a few years ago, but it's still cramped, dusty, stacked, disorganized. Also, don't even think about coming here if you have an out-of-state ID or are with anyone who does. I'm definitely more than a shade over 30 and they still gave tons of attitude. I'd probably give something like 3.5 stars. I've seen a few better places but many many worse places. I'm glad to be near this place as they have a massive selection of beers, wines, and hard liquors. I've gotten to try several different imported beers that I hadn't ever heard of before, and have yet to be disappointed. They also carry all the major beers and some local and lesser known stock too. There is always a good selection of seasonal beers as well (they don't just carry the Sam Adams seasonals, they have a bunch of others too) The prices are pretty reasonable too, especially given the location. And I must repeat, their selection is truly, truly impressive. It would probably take you several lifetimes (and livers) to sample every different variety of beers, wines, and liquor this place has to offer. For now, the location and variety of this place make it my go-to liquor store. read more

This place doesn't disappoint unless you want more of an eclectically styled atmosphere, which I don't. They also don't frown upon me bringing in my well behaving and continent dog, which is a big plus because I live in the area and sometimes shop while walking the dog. Why not 5 stars? Was going to go for 4 stars, and then I thought... what would I change about this place, really? For good selection, no-frills, well-priced liquor stores, it is the best around. True, it is sort of like a warehouse, and the floor is often sawdust, the bottle return is sketchy, and sometimes it's hard to find your specific craft beer among the hundreds on the somewhat-disorganized shelves, but that is understandable from somewhere with such high volume turnover and great prices. It's not a guarantee that the particular staff member you ask knows exactly what they have and where to look, but they'll find one who does, and I've only ever had them be cool and polite. Not fancy or anything, but honest and decent. Some tips: (1) Don't let the super tall Scotch shelves intimidate you -- they often have great sales if you can see that high and someone will get down what you want. (2) You can go inside the big fridge and often it yields some hidden stuff... like if there's no winter ale on the floor because it's April but you're dyyyyying for some, there might be a 12-pack buried inside the fridge. (3) They usually have gluten-free cider and sulfite-free wine in stock, should you have folks who need it. read more

I go out of my way to shop ad Sav-Mor liquors. The staff are friendly and the prices cannot be beat. They have an incredible selection of beer and if you are looking for a nice table wine to bring with you somewhere for dinner they have that too. Not the place to find a premier cru, but that is not why you should shop here. In terms of Liquor, they have a huge selection of everything and again at good prices. There is a grocery store across the street to complete your party order; however, in a pinch they also have mixers and disposable cups as well as a few other party supplies. I live 5 minutes away from this place and I would rather drive for 20 minutes than having to endure SavMor Liquors again! Even though they have a surprisingly large variety at quite competitive prices, I will definitely never be going back here. I have been here 3 times trying to give the place another chance, and on all 3 occasions I was met by rude, ignorant and outright ungrateful staff who act as though they're doing you a favor. I never write reviews, but I was so impressed with the customer service I got at Sav-Mor. I treated myself to a bottle of whiskey that must have had a crack in it, because as soon as I took it out of the car, the bottom cracked and all the whiskey poured out. I went back with my receipt and the broken bottle, ready to put up a fight if necessary, expecting to be hassled and accused of dropping it. OK, so... this place is a dump. Arriving in the ill placed parking lot on the wrong side of McGrath Highway feels like you're approaching a drug deal that's about to go bad. Don't be dissuaded. Be brave. Never mind the junkie bums that seem to be shopping (or working) here. They REALLY have a great selection (I'm talking to you, beer snobs!). Take Downtown Wine and Spirits, strip it of the 'tude, throw it in a terrible location, and re-contextualize it as a ghetto yard sale, and, voila! you have SavMor. (BTW, does anyone else HATE cutesy, lack-of-vowel, business names?) But seriously, they have the best price in town on bargain wines, and the best selection of beers (I'm not a liquor buyer, but I bet it's pretty good, too). I've found limited release Rogue Beers, hands-down the best shelf of Heffeweizens (Schneider!), and even something for those nights when you wanna keep it real (read: Budweiser Chelada, Mississipi Mud, and Horny Goat, et al.). They go high brow, they go low brow, bro. I probably wouldn't recommend going there alone, at night. If you do, bring mace. It helps if you're of the self-reliant breed; you may have to do some rummaging. In fact, looking through the boxes left on the floor in the middle of the aisles is half the fun- I've found great scores, and you can too! read more

At first the beer manager indicated that they would make a suitable adjustment but when I showed up in person, I was treated rudely and no adjustment was made.
