I was greeted warmly and my coat and shoes were collected. I was led back to a small partitioned room where the masseuse instructed me to undress and hang up my clothes. She gave me a few moments and stepped back in to provide the best massage that I've had in my life. She took instruction well, paying particular attention to areas of sensitivity and pain. She avoided areas that I asked and checked in often to ensure that I was comfortable. Care was taken to avoid getting oil in my hair. I appreciate that very much. The cost was reasonable and the facilities were very well maintained. My only issue was with the constant chatter from another area. It was difficult to relax with the noise from the other guests but that may just be something to which I need to adjust.

I've been going to Bangkok Wellness & Spa for about three years now. They offer traditional Thai…read moremassage as well as a general relaxing massage ("ontspannen"). I always get the Thai massage, while The Wife gets the relaxing massage. The Thai massage is authentic and perfect for deep tissue work. The Wife says the masseuses are flexible and willing to work on, for example, just your shoulder if that's what's bothering you. The prices are very reasonable for their high level of service. The decor is traditional and comfortable. (always check for a picture of either the King or Rama V; both are good signs, but if you get Rama V you know the place is Old School whether it's a massage spa or a restaurant). The ambience is quiet, as you'd expect, and the personnel are very friendly. For anyone not familiar with Thai massage, Bangkok Wellness is fairly typical. You come in, remove your coat and shoes, then they take you to a long row of massage platforms all curtained off from each other for privacy. You change into a variant of Thai fishermans' pants (they got rid of the traditional ones and replaced them with ones with elastic; real fishermans' pants can be a bit challenging to put on if you're not used to it.) They wash your feat, then generally you'll have an hour long massage that will include not just massaging, but also pulling and pushing muscles. It can be intense, but they will always ask if it's too hard or painful, so don't be afraid to let your masseuse know if it's not comfortable. Afterward they will offer you tea or water and as you recuperate in the lounge for a while. They have a great location right in the center of town that fits in perfectly with a day of shopping in Haarlem. Definitely call first for a reservation as they are usually busy.

With his iPad he further educated me with 3D pictures & videos of our anatomy i.e. levels of muscles and fascia etc. Then the actual massage was in a lovely room upstairs and on the best massage table I have ever been on. Scientific, educational, professional and healing atmosphere was like no other massage I have ever had. I will be back for sure. Today my body feels "smoother & looser" which is fantastic.

There are steep stairs to second floor massage room. I scheduled my initial 2 hour massage and received an additional 30 minutes which was fantastic, AND massage time (2.5 hours) is actually table time. It was 124 euros which is very reasonable compared to prices in US, especially with US tipping culture which is not in NL. You can definitely tip is you insist though if it is financially feasible for you. :) My massage was focused on trigger point mostly with some cupping and myofascial release massage too. It was awesome! I do like deep tissue and trigger point massage, the cupping and myofascial was new to me and really added to my massage therapy. Martin explained what he was doing during the massage and checked in frequently about pressure. He does like to work on a knot that he finds before moving onto to another area to help release it so this was not the typical full body massage process that I've had at other places before. It was so good to get actual muscle knots released during the session even though he didn't have time to move down to my legs. You do need to be direct and communicate your level of pressure and the level of discomfort you are willing to enjoy as he works on your muscles. After my first session, I was a bit sore the next day which is usual for me since, especially since it had been several years since I had had a massage. I did book a second 2 hour massage a week later and had him work on my legs. Again, it was amazing! I highly recommend Martin! Booking was super easy on his website, even in Dutch, and I received several follow-up emails in English. Do not hesitate to let him get his hands on you! You will not be disappointed!
