If you have the opportunity to eat at the Aki Samurai House in La Cruz, please do! I love sushi,…read morebut was worried that in Mexico, it wouldn't be up to my expectations. Was I wrong. Not only is the food amazing, the chef is an artist. The restaurant is struggling a bit at the moment, so I'm requesting that if people have the opportunity, please, please go have a meal there. Here are pictures of our dinner and the menu. Reservations are required, a few hours in advance, so that they can prepare for your arrival. A special shout out to Mercedes, who is a wonderful server and an amazing person.

I really want to tell about Aki Samurai and authentic Japanese Master Chef Akira in La Cruz…read more 1. A TRUE HIDDEN GEM !!! 2. DELICIOUS honest to goodness SUSHI, with high end US/CAN Resturant quality. 3. There is a "Sushi" resturant in Bucerias whereby if this "unnamed resturant" could speak virtually to Aki Samurai those hearing the conversation would think that a 1st Grader was speaking to someone with a Post Doctorate degree. 4. Like other High Quality Sushi Restaurants understand that you'll "Get What You Pay For" 5. Finally I urge you to go and try this place! I go there religiously and I give this my highest recommendation to you!! And if Pictures Can Tell a Thousand Words I will leave with these: (Note - this is a Reservation Only resturant. They do this so as to ensure they will be ready to prepare for you ONLY the freshest and most flavorful sushi and sashimi available having spent 1 or 2 days ahead of your visit sourcing it -- [WHO DOES THAT IN THIS DAY AND AGE?] ) Bon Appétit - Enjoy in Good Health...

This is a must go to when at the Hotel Musai, and often it is our favorite. We do go back and forth…read morewith Dai lol...but we always go at least twice here each time we visit Puerto Vallarta. The service here is just amazing. It is very popular, they are great in getting people in quickly.... The view from most of the tables is magnificent. One year we saw a beautiful lightening storm over the water.... The sushi, food is amazing. First let me share that the rib eye with a delicious Teriyaki sauce is always a hit. We ways like the mixed shrimp tempura and the hamachi sashimi with jalapeño and truffle vinaigrette is our hands down favorite. The citrus roll was good but the lemon for me was a bit over powering, but the boyfriend loved it. Rainbow roll and hamachi and green onion hand roll very yummy The hamachi nigiri was great, great, great, ordered it twice this week. For dessert our go to is the Coconut cake and green tea ice cream is so yummy. Oh the crispy rice and spicy tuna was delicious, and we will definitely get that again. The Hiroshi lychee saki martini is very nice, NOT to be confused with a midori martini which is far too sweet. Though a nice vegan option, I won't get the rice noodles and tofu again. It wasn't the savory thick noodles that I envisioned. In all this is an amazing restaurant and it is not surprising Hiroshi is considered one of the top two restaurants here.

I think it's safe to say that I'm still not a raw fish person but I did enjoy the other cooked options here. I started the meal with a hiroshi salad, which had the most amazing ginger dressing, and a rib eye robata skewer while my vegetarian boyfriend started with some veggie dumplings in a plum sauce and a veggie wonton tostada. For our sushi course, I attempted the seared tuna as I expressed to the waiter that I wasn't a raw fish fan and wanted to know what he'd recommend as a gateway. I thought the seared tuna sounded safe being partially cooked and even asked the waiter if they could sear it more than usual. I'm sure he thought I was crazy but I do love cooked tuna. Unfortunately, the tuna was still way to raw for me and I couldn't get over the texture or flavor. I originally planned on ordering the teriyaki as well but it was our last night and we thought we might enjoy a late night meal at Noi instead so I chose not to stuff myself here. Instead, I finished the meal with a delicious cookie martini.

It's taken me about a year to write this but the lingering scar on my feet is a constant reminder…read moreof my experience at Chillum. Alejandro, the owner, falsely presented himself as a surf instructor and asked to take me out for a lesson while I was having sushi at his restaurant. I had never once been on a surfboard. He later brought me to what I now know as an area not suitable for first timers. I was never instructed on how to descent, and I didn't know what I didn't know. 30 minutes in to my 2 hour session I got up on the board (yay!) and proceeded to fall down (boo) onto CORAL. It ripped through both of my feet and my knee. The adrenaline allowed me to make it through .5 mi of jungle and to a pharmacy. I was bandaged up and sent along my merry way. I looked like an injured WW2 war vet, but the pain hadn't yet set in. Alejandro proceeded to have me pay for his lobster lunch and charged me full price for the surf session (prices that licensed professionals charge, and I later found out that he is not one). I paid without argument b/c I needed a ride home and I was a woman traveling alone in a foreign country with a man I didn't know and now didn't feel safe with. Long story short the pain set in that evening and I couldn't walk for almost 2 weeks. I ended up having to cancel my airbnb a day before and stay at my boutique hotel so they could take care of me better (ca-ching!!!! $$$$$$$) I messaged Alejandro about my experience once the dust settled and I was able to better understand what happened to me. I was met with an argumentative and rude tone with an eventual half-a$$ed apology. The sushi here isn't super great either, but that is to be expected. If you make it to Chillum, tip his staff well. They were great. But then ask for an intro to Alejandro and give him the finger for me. Caio!
