The hubs mapped out some coffee places that were on multiple must-try lists online for Barcelona. The one we planned on going to our first morning there was closed. So after a while of roaming around and getting lost in the city, I looked up this coffee place and despite being a bit apprehensive about the name, we decided to give it a try because 1.) it was close to where we were at that moment in time, and 2.) I was in desperate need of a cold coffee. I ordered a cold brew, they offered me ice (they probably saw that my face was melting from the heat), and almost instantly, I was in heaven. Yessss, a hipster coffee shop! In planning our trip to Spain, there's an overwhelming number of fabulous coffee shops in Barcelona, and Satan's shows up on almost everyone's list of places to try. While my husband and I aren't really espresso drink people (we like pourovers), adapting to the local fanfare of the cortado was an easy switch for me. We stopped in to Satan's early in the morning and quietly enjoyed a cortado and a cold brew before venturing out to wander around for the day. The breakfast/lunch menu here had a lot of whimsical Japanese inspired food, all of which looked really delicious. The service here was good, with English being an option when ordering. Definitely a super trendy and cool spot that's tucked away in, literally, a corner. read more

I was told this was the best coffee in Barcelona before traveling there on vacation, and what a pleasant surprise to learn it was inside my hotel at Casa Bonay. It was also a pleasant surprise to learn that sentiment was absolutely true. With all the markings of hipster coffee joints in NY, SF, and LA...it has the potential to rub customers the wrong way. But once you get over the slow pace behind the coffee bar and several admonishments pasted inside that shame you for bringing kids or not liking loud music, you'll find a great cup of coffee to start your day. If you know of their other, more happening location in the Gothic quarter, you know they do hipster coffee right. This is the way coffee is supposed to taste and it'll bring you back at least once a day. I also tried the grapefruit soda, which was refreshing and expectedly tart. I appreciate that they have tap water on tables, which is pretty uncommon in Spain. The shop is connected to a hotel lobby, with cute fruit-inspired bathrooms in between (um, one door has a peach and the other a banana... you do you). read more

Ugh, Satan's Coffee. They have a cute little wall that says Fuck Yelp and Fuck TripAdvisor, and I'm convinced it's because they can't face the cold, hard truth that they're just not very service-oriented. Their coffee is only decent, but the entire experience is just trash. We waited 45-60m for our coffee, and when we got it, the pourover was watery and cortado was just okay with a pretty low-effort attempt at latte art. There was a mumbled apology about the wait and a couple of "your coffee's on its way"s after which, a 10-minute wait did nothing to help it actually appear. My partner is a barista and agreed the operational layout of the store is completely inefficient - they have one person on bar who is also the same person taking orders, which means any espresso-based drink or pourover takes forever. read more

I had to go all the way to Spain to get a really good cup of pour over coffee because anywhere in the US had been a disappointment (looking at you, Intelligentsia, Blue Bottle, et al). The place is overpriced and overrated if anything else. Attracted by Yelper's reviews, I stopped by to take some coffee. It's partially my own fault that I couldn't explain I had wanted an americano. But in result, I was charged €2 for a glass (with no handle) of burning hot strange dirty liquid, which had been a drip brewed coffee, as I was informed later.
