Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to read two reviews. Read Ariel W's and especially…read moreperuse her photos. As a five-year resident of this teeny tiny town, I'll add to hers and here are my additions- * The pavilions are a big draw as they have nice big canopies for shade and sturdy picnic tables. Each has its own trash bin a few feet away. That's nice but they are fly and hornet magnets! Just sayin- * Because of the adjacent playground, birthday parties are common. Expect a bunch of rug rats to be running around. * This is a no pets park except for service animals of course. There is minimal chance you will step in something horrendous with your bare feet. * It's nicely lit at night so it's a nice place to enjoy the cool of the evening. * If you enjoy alcohol, as long as you wrap your can, you know what I mean, nobody with bother you. * This is rural Florida and everyone with half a brain knows every lake has gators! The beach is nice and if you swim during the day the chances of even seeing one is minuscule! If you decide to take a swim at night with an open wound, well, you didn't really need four appendages, did you?

During my visit there was birthday party in one of the pavilions. Donaldson Park sits on the shores of Lake Verona and there is a beach for swimming. I have always heard that if you swim in lakes in Florida you can get the brain eating Naegleria fowleri amoeba. When water gets up your nose it travels to your brain which is almost always fatal. There have been 37 reported cases in Florida since 1962. Peak times to get it are July through September. I am not sure if they test the water here or if people are just careful not to submerge their heads in the water. Although I grew up swimming in lakes in New Jersey, this is the first time I have seen a swimming beach on a Florida lake. Also noteworthy is the dinosaur skeleton on the beach. It features heavily in promotional pictures for Avon Park. The park is used by the City of Avon Park for events like the Blueberry Festival and Christmas in the Park. The beach looked inviting but I am just not sure how safe it is to swim here.

However, we have tons of retirees, one of which is me. Lots of folks come to visit us. I had some visitors that decided to stay in this unique place, and I decided to go with them when they checked in to check it out. It's less than a mile from my condo. Arriving- It's on the northbound side of US Route 27 with a large sign. Piece of cake to find. They are small cottages, yup I said cottages, and you get to park directly in front of yours which is incredibly convenient. Pro Tip- There is every kind of restaurant and/or bar, mostly within just a few minutes. Just check Yelp. Ambience- The cottages come in two flavors, Lakefront and Front. In addition to being on a private, very nice beach, the lakefront cottages have many more amenities. Check out their excellent website for details. Everything is up-to-date and spotless. There is a private beach and a nice doc with a gazebo at the end of it. Not a bad place to quaff a beverage and watch the sunset. The lakefront cottages have gas bbq grills ready for your use. Customer Service- My friends said it was spectacular! From check-in to daily housekeeping, everyone was friendly and efficient. Pricing- Like most lodgings the price varies by several factors. It's easy to play around on the website to figure it all out. As you might expect, the cottages on the lakefront cost the most. In general, expect to pay, often on the lower end of $1xx.00 per night which is a steal. Conclusion- If you need to stay in the area and looking for something other than the chains, this fine place will get the job done in style!

Nicely decorated, huge tv with Rokou, microwave, fantastic beds and unbeivable pillows, coffee in the room. But the real show stopper is the bathroom! Tiny in size, but the shower, amazing, fantastic, spa quality. The shower had a rainshower head, and a hand held showerhead. The floor was muted pebbles. High end shampoo, conditioner, soap and make up remover were all provided. Dont pass up this place. You will get a restfull, rejuvenating stay.

Week 2: The coffee that was included in the membership fee disappeared, along with coffee we purchased because she only had half a bag in there when we started our membership and took a week to bring more. Bottom line: the owner advertises this as including common area, maintenance, coffee, and other basic supplies that you would find in a similar space, so long as she doesn't have to clean anything or supply anything. Dealing with her was so draining after two weeks,, that we had to cancel our membership and lost a $250 administrative fee. In total, she took us for $503 for two weeks in a tiny cubicle The best part is, a day before our membership ended, she took an order of business cards that had come for me in the mail and kept them. She also took a bottle of the creamer that we supplied for our own coffee, and will not return calls or texts to take back her keys!

I live really close to this beautiful, well-maintained, and secluded property! How close, you ask?…read moreWell, I can drive my golf cart to it! It's been around for a very long time, since 1939 in this location. It really has two faces- Face #1 is that it is a Christian camp for young folks. I can't speak to this as my little munchkin is now in her forties and lives in Denver! Face #2 is a venue for corporate retreats, large social gatherings, extended family reunions, generally rentals of all types. This review speaks to these kinds of experiences. Let's get into the details- Location- Nestled behind citrus groves and on beautiful Lake Trout, they are about a 1 mile from US Route 27 just after you cross the northern Highlands County line. Signage is good and they are a snap to find. Visiting- You can't just stop by as others may be occupying the site. Check their website and reach out to arrange a tour. Facilities- It's a 25-acre site! For single-day events they can handle about 150 folks. If your needs include an overnight stay that is absolutely possible. For that, they can sleep about 120. They can supply food, or you can arrange your own. For you corporate team-building types, they have the ubiquitous rope courses, both high and low, and other related stuff. With 25 acres, they can afford to diversify. It turns out they have quite a reputation as a wedding venue! Pro Tip- Alcohol, tobacco, and firearms are prohibited. I realize some events might typically include beer & wine. That's not gonna happen here. Expect nicely maintained infrastructure with plenty of shade from our famously hot Florida sun! Staff- I've attended a couple of events here and they have been top notch! If you have this type of need in Central Florida, these fine folks should absolutely be on your list for consideration.
