I spent a lot of time looking for a place in London that was going to meet my most important needs. The first was easy access to the underground. Second was price. I found both of those advantages staying here at Sara Hotel.
Sara Hotel is really close to the Earl's Court station - a station that is open 24hrs on Friday/Saturday. This meant easy travel to and from Heathrow at ungodly hours, and a definite weight off my chest. Typical American I was traveling with too many things (I knew I shouldn't have brought that extra pair of shoes), and gifts for my friends on the other side of the pond.
I was in Room 5 - which is a single on the main floor next to the kitchen. This room doesn't have an en suite bathroom. So be prepared for a hostel style experience. The bathroom is up one flight of stairs (not bad unless you're in a wheel chair - and at that I should mention, you have to go up stairs to get in the building, so please be aware. Room 5 was small. But I wasn't hanging out in the hotel all day, so this really didn't matter. There is a sink in the room for brushing teeth and general rinsing.
Room 5 has it's benefits for a solo female traveler. You're close to the reception area, and there is someone on duty 24hrs, so you feel some sense of security. It is loud though - you'll hear most everything that happens on the first floor - from checkins (crazy backpackers at 3:15am), and the breakfast preparations in the kitchen starting at 4:30. If you're a light sleeper, you're going to have a problem, but if you aren't phased by noises, it will be ok. It was a trade off for me for the other advantages.
The worst part of the room is the lack of AC. I mean, it's London, who would have thought 40 degrees Celsius would be a problem. I was traveling during the hottest days of July on record in London, and you could definitely feel it.
The upstairs "staff" bathroom, as it is marked, was for my use, and generally not used by many other guests. But there were a few other people using it during my week stay. At the start of the week I didn't have to wait, but there was a night mid-week when I wanted a shower before bed, and I had to wait until after midnight to rinse the hot city filth off myself. Boy was I tired.
The staff is all super-friendly and they will attend to your needs. You can opt for breakfast, but it is definitely meager. If you're on a budget, you can save some money, but I wasn't completely satisfied. I paid for four days' worth of breakfast, but I only ate two days. The other two I was up early and on a schedule and decided to explore other cafes and more veggie options for breakfast.
Overall, I would probably stay here again. The area felt safe, clean. I was close to the underground. There is an M&S food hall down the street near the tube station, and a suitable number of food options down there as well. I could easily get where I wanted to go, and this was my #1 factors.
Definitely not a 4 start hotel, but for the price, definitely worth it! read more
