We were setup with a very large space that had pool tables and table tennis and were given the ability to bring our own decorations to add a theme to the event. We were allowed to setup in advance and were given assistance in both the setup and takedown. The food was great, we were given a buffet style selection which consisted of items such as sandwiches, pizza, meatballs, chicken wings, samosas, and mozzarella sticks. The food all tasted great and there was more than enough for everyone to eat. They have a decent selection of drinks, the only negative that I would say is that I would like to see a greater selection of local microbrew beers but that's ok. The service was what made the event that much more enjoyable. You never needed to chase down a server to get drinks and they always made sure that the glasses and dishes were picked up promptly so the place didn't look messy. I don't think there was a single time that I waited more than 2-3 minutes for a drink. If you are looking to just go and play pool or have an event here, I would definitely recommend dropping in.

We went to all sorts of pubs and bars around Ottawa, tried the food and drink, filmed our experiences, and reported back to the class on the best deals and safest ways to get tipsy - keep in mind, this was long before Yelp was around. As the Laf is one of the oldest bars in Ottawa, it was first on the list. This bar is old school, down to earth, casual, low lighting, seemingly impersonal... so you'll need to use your imagination to picture a peppy, dolled-up first year bouncing (loudly) through the door with a video camera who then immediately thought "this might not go well" - I was SO wrong as it was AMAZING! The staff as well as the patrons we so welcoming, helpful, full of laughter, and even offered me free pop and snacks all night long since I was the DD (and professional videographer) of the night. Our intent was to spend about 15-20 minutes in each bar for a quick drink and experience: we stayed for most of the night and had a blast! All this to say, the environment in this place is awesome! I recently returned to grab some take-out and it was great. Simple food, cooked well, and packaged in a compostable take-out box. We ordered the burger and fries, and demolished it promptly. Service was so pleasant and brought back such happy memories.

During the duration of our stay, people started trickling in - I guess a lot of people thought it seemed closed because the staff was inside and there was no indication that it was open. I enjoyed the food - my partner and I shared the supreme nachos with added chicken so it came down to $8.18 for each of us. In terms of taste, it was quite good and had a reasonable amount of toppings that was quite balanced amongst the nacho chips. That being said, our waiter did not have a mask on which really annoyed me. It seemed like the establishment was not following Ontario social distancing measures as payment processing for example was done physically. Due to that, we gave no tip. But other than that, the nachos were really good and I would rate them higher than average within Ottawa.

We ordered her fries to try and make her happy, which took 20 minutes..YIKES! If you are looking to grab a bite to eat while bowling, make sure you order your food at the beginning. Bonus is the food is brought to you, so you can bowl while you wait. Fries were standard, and thick cut and is salted with some type of fry salt. It did the trick while hungry. There are a couple arcade games on site, but not many. I do not know the correct bowling terms, but sections are shared between two "parties," so you are sharing the balls and seating area with another group, if the lane next to you gets booked. Big star down for that. Front desk is friendly. Bowling shoes are comfy. Not sure if it is wheelchair/stroller accessible though. I did not see a ramp to get down the lanes, so I had to carry my stroller down a couple steps. They have rock and bowl here too, so I'd like to come back and check that out.

I also found their bar menu to fit the theme very well as the dishes sounded more like plated dining rather than finger foods or sharable plates. Additionally, while the establishment has very pleasant rooftop views of the city, I found the staff to be generally aloof or neglecting throughout service and failing to take advantage of this great ambience; we had to actively chase them down for water, the menu for bar snacks, and the check among other things which lowers my opinion of this establishment.
