We started with a local White Wine. Eresma Verdejo (2022)-light and on the drier side-we enjoyed it. For Tapas, it was Patatas Bravas-crispy potatoes with a tasty aioli. Fried Eggplants were delicious. The difference in Malaga is they use Molasses vs Honey which was the case in Barcelona. Last but not least is this spot's specialty-Espeto. Sardines on a stick grilled over charcoal. Besides Vendors on the Beach, this is the only spot in the city you can get it prepared this way. Watched the Chef prepping them-smoky and a must try! Saw a Charcuterie board for another party and it looked delicious. Interestingly, Mentidero means liar. Service was upbeat and friendly. Great atmosphere, food and a taste of Local Flavor.

I'd been planning to hit this place all week, and finally was able to make it. I'd been wanting to try their authentic fire cooked Espetos de Sardina, sardine skewers, and my last night in Málaga, a Monday, was going to be it. Unfortunately, Mondays they don't do any of the skewers. Turns out they have one guy who specializes in this sort of Malagan cuisine, and he has Mondays off. So, no sardine skewers for me. I was major disappointed. I did get some fried sardines and a some other dishes, along with a really good sangria. Still, I couldn't help but think about what I really wanted. Wait staff was nice and attentive. They switched to English when they heard my accent, but were fine switching back to Spanish when I kept at it. That was nice too. Cost on the higher side, but not outrageous. 3 plates and 2 sangrias set me back €35. Way more did than I could possibly consume. 2 plates would've been sufficient for 1 person.

Highly recommend!

Carolina is an awesome server so definitely ask for her when you go by, though all the servers are wonderful so you'll get great service regardless. Can't recommend this place enough. But after the meal, I couldn't have imagine ever passing this place up. The owner Ricardo was one of the friendliest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. We started off with Sangria, because that is one of the staples drinks of Spain. Ricardo took his time with making it, even saying that it would take 10 minutes before being ready. All the fruit was fresh, hand cut, and it was by far and away the best Sangria we'd had in Spain. (Boozy too.) After the sangria, we had a few tapas with a tomato/vegetable Medley on top of toast, and it was a great compliment. But the Paella. Oh my gosh the Paella. Every bite had a little bit different in it, be it prawn/cod/shrimp/calamari, and the flavors melded so well together. The portion sizes were incredible. For 6 glasses of sangria, the tapas, and incredible paella, it was only 37 euro. This place is a hidden gem, and you're missing out on one of the treasures of Malaga if you don't come to de Sancha.
