I think someone mentioned a gym as well, but I didn't wander in there. I came down here to practice with team mates from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (we were a corporate team, so only had one practice before race day.) The awesome team, Raging Dragons instructed us, gave us lots of helpful advice and showed us how not to make too much of a fool of ourselves on the water. Destination Star Trek London hosted the five captains, played by actors William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer). We only saw Patrick Stewart and he was just a delight to hear speak. They charge for everything! We paid a ticket to get into the convention and then a separate ticket to listen to the Patrick Stewart speak. After you get your "talk" tickets, you pretty much have to be in line an hour before the timetable start time. We ended up waiting 2 hours in lines with hoards and hoards of people. The convention had a replica of the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, a Klingon zone, stunt show, costume parade, photo and autograph opportunities, Q&A sessions with the actors, and a museum.

My work was inside the O2 arena which is inside this outlet too. I went to Nandos, Five Guys, Chiptole, German Kabob and a Thai restaurant. It was reminiscent of the Planet Hollywood Mall except it is [semi]circular. There is a Wetherspoons located on either end (yay!) as well restaurants that specialize in worldly cuisines. I went for the first time to see my favorite boy band, Five, on their reunion tour. A 20,000+ person capacity arena in the center of a "mall" is wild. The arena had great sound, and even though I was in the upper tier stage-left, I had a clear view of the stage. For a first time visitor, it is important to note that the upper tier is very steep. I was only in the 2nd row from the ledge, so I did not have any issues with vertigo/motion sickness. However, I would personally avoid seats near the top because I know I would have issues. There is a separate merch store outside the area to avoid crazy lines once you enter the arena. You can bring small packages and pursues inside but they made others rent a locker to place large packages and jackets. In addition to the arena, there is a smaller venue that was simultaneously hosting a K-Pop concert and the dinner venue for Mamma Mia! I wish I would have arrived when the shops first opened as I could have easily spent an entire day wandering around. If you are visiting London and have the opportunity to see a show at one of the venues, I highly recommend making a day of it!

Once down there you enter a small basement bar with a few chairs and tables looking towards a tiny makeshift stage. There's a certain charm about it, almost as if you have found your way into a secret club. Everyone sets out to have the best time possible and a close knit group of local artists organise music showcases. The usually small crowds here respect the music which is nice and this enhances most people's enjoyment of the evenings. In my experience the music at Oliver's isn't that brilliant but it is still worth checking out and the artists usually enjoy a bit of light banter with the crowd. The bar area is based in a tiny room next to the performance area and when busy, this area gets very congested. It is also where the toilet is. For some reason people insist on standing there and so if you need to relieve yourself then leave yourself plenty of time to get to the loo.

They sell a variety of organic snacks and drinks which you can take into the cinema with you, in addition to the drinks which you can buy from the bar upstairs (a big plus of this place is being able to take beer and wine in to the cinema) The chairs are extremely comfortable- far more comfortable than usual- and are worth the extra few pounds that you spend on getting in.

When they put out rows of seating though, they cram in as much as possible... so if you're stuck on the end, like we were, the view ain't great. And twisting my body and craning my neck to see meant that I came away stiff all over. Ouch. But always happy to giggedy-gig here!

This was a one-off show as he's in the middle of recording his new album right now. The gig was, well, probably the best I've ever been too. No sticky floors in sight here, just miles of bars making it really easy to get served, and a low stage with sunken floor, all standing, and brilliant acoustics. This is as close as you could come to a 'your front room' feeling in a 1000 capacity venue - well worth braving the 40 minute boat trip!

The Jetty on the Greenwich Peninsula has once again been transformed- this time, it has taken on…read morethe role of London's own hanging gardens. Farmopolis is a botanic haven for events, discussions, screenings and feasting. While not quite Babylon, this floating multifunctional space has adopted plants and flowers from this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show- tens of thousands, in fact-, giving them a second life as the perfect gildings for this temporary venue. There's plenty of outdoor space affronting expansive views of the Thames, Canary Wharf and the local area- and for when the weather turns, most of Farmopolis is sheltered under a greenhouse like structure. There's a bar and café with a seated area and ample space to wander, enjoy the flora and take in some fresh air. It aims to be a community hub and welcoming oasis for all, asking only for a £3 donation upon entry to cover running costs and to be fed back into educational projects. The schedule of events is replete and runs from the end of July until the end of August. A relatively quick walk from North Greenwich station, Farmopolis is just enough of a wander that it guarantees a nice, quiet spot for a cocktail or merely to drop-in and see what is on offer that day. Some events are ticketed, so be sure to consult the itinerary on their website to ensure that you don't miss something, as some events will likely sell out in advance. During a preview launch, activities like flower arranging were demonstrated and proved very popular- the cocktail menu was also appealing, all influenced by botanicals and flora. A nice urban garden in the city, Farmopolis will be an exciting destination for events throughout the summer. It's a peaceful getaway and we enjoyed perching over the Thames, watching the Emirates cable cars glide back and forth in the near distance and sipping away on honey-infused fizz.
