This is one of my favorite restaurants in Cologne! Every two years, I have to go to Cologne for 12 days for a trade show. The first time I went to Sansone 5 times. The second time I went to Sansone 3 times. It's such a great spot, I love it.
They have amazing pastas, some of the best pizza I've ever had (rivals Italy for real), great grilled meats and fish and all sorts of classic Italian antipasto and salads. They have about 25 different pizza options, and every one I've had has been amazing. The crust is nice and thin and perfectly cooked in a very hot oven. The toppings are always super fresh and delicious. The pastas are fresh and are the perfect portion - not a giant bowl of pasta like you get in the US, but just enough to fill you up.
The servers are all Italian and all speak English - some only a little, but some are fluent. They are incredibly friendly and remembered our whole group from our visits two years ago. They are very welcoming, in true Italian fashion.
This is a great place to go by yourself with a book, order a pizza and wine, and have a nice quiet meal after a busy day. However, it's just as great of a place to go with a big group. We had a few dinners there were 6-8 people, and they do a great job of bringing out antipasto samplers and serving things family style.
I just can't say enough good things about this place, but here's a few things: Quality food, friendly staff and very cheap prices. The pastas are mostly around 8-12 Euros (but they have an amazing lobster pasta that is about 20 Euros...and worth it!)...and the pizzas are all around 9-12 Euros as well. Some of the meats and fish are around 20-25 Euros, but are perfectly cooked and delicious. They also have a good wine list with lots of cheap options, as well as some very good pricy bottles.
Can't wait to go back in 2 years! read more
