Then I got a call at 1:30pm from a woman saying that since I have not been there for a while that I had to come in at 3:15 because I am considered a new patient. I said ok (good thing I had off). She then said with an attitude "so can you do that or no?". I was taken aback but replied yes. she said ok and ended the call. When I got there, the receptionist looked at me and said hi and asked my name. I gave it to her and she rudely cut me off and said "give me a minute" and disappeared. When she finally came back, she asked me for my ID and insurance information. All this time she had an attitude. I gave her my info and she told me I have a $15 co pay. I explained that I have hit my out-of-pocket maximum. She then huffed and picked up the phone and called someone. She started to tell the person on the other line that "this patient THINKS she doesn't have to pay a co-pay because she hit her out of pocket maximum". I showed her my phone from the Horizon app showing that I did indeed hit the OOP Max. She then rolled her eyes at me and then explained to the person on the phone that I was trying to show her my phone. I then said to her "you don't need to have such an attitude" She looked at me and said "I don't have an attitude". I then said "but you do". She then proceeded to tell the person on the other end of the phone that I said she has an attitude. She said I still need to pay the copay. At this point, it became principle. She was so rude. I asked to speak to whomever she was talking to. She rolled her eyes AGAIN and said she was coming out as she hung up the phone. I sat and waited. A women came out and proceeded to show me what looked like my OUT OF NETWORK deductible. I showed her my phone and told her I hit my Out-of-pocket max. She looked at my phone and said "well this is policy. " I said "are you in network with my insurance?" she said yes. I said "the information you are holding is wrong. Please call the insurance company. I can even show you EOBs that show I have no copay with other doctors' offices as well". She said, "because you're a new patient, you have to pay the copay". I told her I am not a new patient, I just haven't been there for a while. She said that then I was a new patient and had to pay the copay, its policy. At this point it was much more than the $15.00 copay. They do not like it when you know anything about your own insurance plan then they do. I do this for a living. I really like Dr. Shah, but this office staff is always rude. The reason I wasn't there for a while is because they canceled the last 3 appointments I had made. At this point, I handed her the clipboard with the documents they wanted me to fill out and said have a good day. I will not be going back. I looked online to see that this is a common complaint with this office. I don't understand why doctors put up with rude staff members like this. (not talking about the billing woman-although a simple phone call would have fixed this). I went to another doctor this morning who had zero issues taking my word for it that I hit the OOP Max for the year. Chasing these $15 copays from these offices is a pain in the butt. I know my plan. Regardless, the attitude of the woman in front is completely rude, condescending, and completely unprofessional.
