I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Susan Senf, NP but unfortunately she has now moved on somewhere. Also one of my absolute loves is Dr. Catherine Oneill in the women's health clinic, she's fabulous! Of course there any many, many others, especially in support staff. But I think too numerous to mention here. But know that you are all appreciated equally and what you do really matters to your patients. You are appreciated and you are important, no matter the position you hold. We love you all! To infinity and beyond!!! Lol Knowing the processes and procedures is vital and will help to smooth the red tape (which really isn't all that bad).

The care of the patient I was visiting seemed friendly and caring, tending to her pain level needs sensitively. She did have one nurse that she thought was insensitive to her needs and talked to her in a condescending tone. The last straw was when she was made to feel like it her fault that she fell (patient is a fall risk), so she ended up requesting a new nurse and all was great after that.

The amount of miscommunication we experienced during our stay was outstanding. I came into the hospital 2 days early to have my care coordinated due to a high risk pregnancy and we didn't see any specialists during that time despite asking/reminding nurses and doctors . We didn't speak with anyone about the delivery "game plan" until the morning of so it felt like my extra two day stay was completely unnecessary. Additionally, I experienced a post delivery emergency and was sent down to get an MRI and CT without a gown and with medical patches on and that seemed to greatly irritate the MRI tech. Whenever I had a question I was directed to a specialist (obgyn, neurologist, anesthesiologist, etc.) that would then direct me back to the person I originally asked the question to. And my final complaint is that all the lactation consultants gave me conflicting information. Overall my stay felt sloppy and uncoordinated. I didn't feel very confident about the care received and the billing that followed was equally as disorganized. In comparison to an earlier stay I had a sharp memorial, the experience was night and day. I would avoid UCSD if at all possible moving forward. Sharp care was very organized and much more professional.

I was a patient of Dr. Matthew MacFarlane at this location for less than a year. I found both him…read moreand UCSD Health in general to be deeply unimpressive. In May 2025, I suffered an infiltrated IV during a colonoscopy by UCSD provider Dr. Nedret Copur-Dahi. This injury was not charted, not evaluated, and I was provided no care instructions. I suffered from severe pain in my left arm and numbness/tingling in two of my fingers. I went to Dr. MacFarlane for help. I had already been to Urgent Care two days after the injury, and they didn't address the severe pain, but rather did a quickie ultrasound to confirm I didn't have a blood clot. The numbness and tingling had developed since that visit. I made the appointment online on a Monday night. The morning before my appointment, I received a MyChart message from this office that I shouldn't have made an appointment online, but should have called given the nature of my injury. The message also said a nurse would call me that day. No one called me. The next morning, I went to my appointment. I described this iatrogenic injury to Dr. MacFarlane, showed him the photos of the large bruise that developed on the inside off my elbow after the IV infiltration, and described my symptoms. He did a cursory exam of my arm before telling me that I had no injury and that I was, "Overly sensitive due to past medical trauma." I was so stunned I had no response. It had been 20+ years since a male physician had spoken to me, an educated, professional cis-het woman, like I am too stupid to know what I am feeling in my own body. He had no prior knowledge of the nature of my medical trauma beyond the fact that I had a PTSD diagnosis in my chart. I am not suffering from a delusional disorder, nor do I have a history of making up pain for attention or drug seeking. This was a "medical evaluation" born of gender discrimination, in my opinion. I have a hard time imagining him telling another man that he had no injury and ignoring every self-reported symptom and PICTURES of the injury. UCSD "Patient Experience" knows all about this entire saga. They said they would assign me to a different PCP but never followed through. They did nothing but send me AI-generated platitudes in the mail when what I needed was an investigation into why this behavior is allowed and what they plan to do about it, as well as corrections to my medical records. That's what these offices are supposed to do, in addition to following through with promises they make. Ten months later, my arm still hurts every day. I was later diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome, which resolved on its own as well as radial tunnel syndrome, which is the source of the pain I suffer from daily. Thanks to UCSD trying to cover up the original injury (in my opinion) by by not charting it and Dr. MacFarlane denying me further access to care, I didn't see a specialist until more than 3 months after the injury. I had to change medical groups and upend all of my other barely-competent specialist care to do so. I will never stop saying publicly what this institution did to me. Not only did they fail harder and harder each time I asked for help, they refuse to take any responsibility for injuring me in the first place and then denied me any care at all through what I felt was gender discrimination by Dr. MacFarlane. For posterity, I included one of the images of the bruise on my arm from the IV that I showed Dr. MacFarlane, from which he concluded that I had no injury.

All I knew is I felt like I was about to die and couldn't walk and pain places I couldn't explain. They saved my life. For that I will always be grateful. Now 8/10 nurses were awesome. The cleaning staff are always awesome since I just laid bored and people watched. The other maybe two nurses were just a little disrespectful or sarcastic for whatever the reason being that was the only thing that irritated me. I've been treated pretty well when I've gone to the UC San Diego Hospital. And since having Medi-cal I know my options are limited or my stays are like only the 10 days I believe, this last time was life saving. But the current yelp rating being 2.3 average for the Hospital is the furthest thing from true in my opinion. I couldn't even walk to make it to the bathroom and close to death it felt like and was told that it was good I came to the hospital. And maybe my experience isn't a five star but I feel it's closer to five than four. The doctors are awesome. Incredibly informative. Thanks to them and everyone being professional. For being kind. A little confusing for the negative yelps, being good and professional with their profession and character. That's my opinion and experience. Since anyone who does help seems to be Hunted like an animal not always in a positive light, I'll leave out names I remember. Thank you

He told his mom that they are using stem cells now to study how to cure cancer and treat chronic diseases. Most exiciting is that stem cells have shown promise in repairing the damage of those who have lost the ability to walk, such as veteran injuries and spinal cord accidents. Used to be that rich people would go over to Germany to some fancy stem cell clinic. These under-the-radar treatment centers would offer people on their last health legs, stem cell therapy. Well, now here in San Diego, we have the new San Diego Stem Cell Treatment Center. Their website noted that "since 2013, top orthopedic surgeons have been using stem cell therapy to treat patients suffering from arthritis and other orthopaedic conditions." This is the first step in utilizing stem cells for health purposes, while more clinical research is done to see how to treat more complex illnesses like cancer and muscular dystrophy. SD Stem Cell Treatment Center now offers to treat hip, knee, shoulder or back pain by utilizing your own stem cells with minimally invasive procedures. (Probably big needles.) The website states that "Stem cell treatment offers the potential for millions of viable mesenchymal stem cells to differentiate into normal healing tissues and can be injected into painful joints, around painful tendons and ligaments and given as an IV for systemic use." Their stem cell treatments are done on Friday afternoons, which I figure, allows for the patient to use their weekend to rest and recover from the procedure. I called today and asked about what insurance, if any, this new business accepts as I would love some stem cells in my arthritic knees. Unfortunately, and the reason for deducting 1 YELP STAR for this business, is that it is CASH ONLY. And just to begin the treatment process costs $8,000. Which sounds like money well spent but I might have to wait until I hit the lottery to start the stem cells flowing.
