Unfortunately, in a choice that I foolishly regret, on Tuesday, June 11th, 2024 I attended the…read morefirst session of Vocal Ensembles class with Mr. Juan. In this class, I was openly insulted by him several times even after stating that I am a beginner. In front of the others, he proceeded to reference an example that apparently compared my singing to that he always wanted to play baseball but he just wasn't good at it. He was better at soccer instead. I was highly offended because as I child I was told cruel comments about my singing by certain family members and it stuck with me for my entire life. At 38 years old, I finally (or so I thought) drew the courage to try to learn properly how to sing and all was going well until that fateful Tuesday that is. Mr Juan should think before he speaks because there is a great difference between constructive criticism and outright rudeness. Making jokes that I had tonal amnesia is very upsetting. He doesn't know what some of his students have been through or how many have finally summoned up courage after putting their voice out there again after previously hearing cruel words. He tried to cover up his nastiness by saying no one is here to judge only to help. Well, too late, as I felt and still feel judged. I am not a professional singer nor do I pretend to be. I only wanted to learn and not have childhood trauma re-hatched. I guess I will take Mr. Juan's advice because as a classically trained ballet dancer I will stick with my own version of "soccer" and forget about singing because it's my version of "baseball" and apparently I will never be decent at it no matter how hard I try. One always catches more files with honey than they do vinegar. I hope Mr. Juan will one day learn that. I originally tried to post this review on Wellness Living last year but Avalon School of Music wouldn't post it to keep their bogus 5 Star reviews. Adults looking for lessons BEWARE of Mr. Juan!!

This school is right in downtown Avalon Park and I can not say enough great things about it!…read more They've put together an AMAZING team of instructors. Both of my kids to these schools (there are 4 others in Central Florida which are all owned by the same person). Michael went to Notre Dame and carried on to major in Pipe Organ Performance (with a minor in cybersecurity because, hey, why not?) and Andrew learned the piano and bass guitar, eventually switching to sports from music and attending UCF with confidence that, sometimes, only the arts can give you. Please take a look at the free lesson promotion they have right now because it is the best one I've seen to date.

The Music Box has a few options and several instructors. There are profiles on their site to help see how your potential instructors are before you start. Once you start attending, the same instructor works with you week after week (there was one exception where my son had a "sub" - but he knew about it in advance and we could have addressed it if there were concerns). Having the same instructor work with my son has been really helpful as she coaches him on his progress. Out instructor has been personable and helpful - he is continuing to grow in his confidence as a singer. The folks at the Music Box front desk are also easy to communicate with - although there have been one or two incidents of communication breakdown about various things (closures & make--up lessons in particular) - overall it has been positive. The make-up policies are a bit stringent; for example if you get sick on the day of, they don't do make-ups....although they offer virtual sessions (which is probably less helpful if you are sick and nursing your voice)....while not ideal, I believe that's pretty standard across music lesson places. That doesn't make it better - but doesn't really rank them any worse among other music lesson places. Again, criticisms aside, the overall experience here is positive. I think the most import part is that the student connects with their instructor, which I feel is occurring. THe instructors here appear to have sufficient resumes, and our instructor for my son does move him in the right direction musically. A quick note about the parking lot......if you come after work hours, it is particularly busy. There is not much space there, so it can be a challenge......just something to consider when booking your time, its not unmanageable, but it's sometimes a struggle.

My kids have participated in several recitals as well as performed in shows at various venues. The instructors are all accomplished musicians in their own right and their love for music shines through in the way they encourage their students and it's often difficult to tell who is more excited about the students progress. They truly care about their students. If you visit The Music Box be prepared for "joyful noise". Naturally you hear ongoing lessons, but it's the laughter and pure joy that is often the most striking. If your child has expressed an interest in music, check out The Music Box. Ryan uses multiple mediums to engage his students, such as traditional books, videos and even apps. My son is not almost 8 and looks forward to seeing Mr. Ryan every week. As a parent, I love the ease of the billing system and cost. You would be getting great education and for a great value. I also appreciate that Ryan plans the recitals ahead of time and give the students plenty of time to practice and prepare. He sets them up for success. I would recommend Ace Music Academy to any friend or family in search of music lessons.

I purchased four 30-minute voice lessons for Ace Music Academy on a discounted site for $36 per two…read morelessons. The promotion stated that up to three purchases per person can be made every 90 days. I contacted the academy to schedule my teen daughter's first lesson and Ryan called back. I informed him that I wanted to schedule four lessons for my daughter. He told me that the promotion on the discounted site was incorrect (something he was trying to fix but has been unsuccessful) and that I could only use one voucher. The second voucher I purchased could be used towards a regular class at full price. I agreed and scheduled the two discounted lessons. After the last lesson, I wanted to schedule the next two and final lessons. Ryan sent an invoice for a regular lesson with a higher rate than his website stated and an additional $25 for a registration fee (the regular fee for lessons was increased in April but the website had not been updated). I questioned the registration fee considering two lessons only cost $36 and my daughter wasn't a regular student and would not continue lessons with him. He stated, "A registration fee applies to every student, regardless if they take one class or 10 classes. Once the student begins to take regular classes, they are considered registered, hence why the registration fee." I told him instead to just honor the promotion on the website and it would be our last lesson. He told me he couldn't honor it and only one discount "is able to be applied to each student. The second discount was applied as a credit to discount the first invoice." I told him I didn't want to proceed and had already received a refund from the other website. My experience with Ryan has not been satisfactory for the above reasons. I felt that he was definitely misleading with the pricing and unorganized with the scheduling of the lessons. I must admit that my daughter did say Ryan was a good instructor but wanted lessons with other instructors to find a better fit. I wanted to give him a lower rating but didn't because of my daughter's experience with him. I also wish he would post samples of his singing on the website so that potential customers can have an idea of his vocal ability.

As someone who has taken classical piano lessons as well as college piano courses, I found that it was only until I became a student under Aaron where I was fully able to understand the piano. His passion for music shows through his classes and students. He has created a safe space for learning music where students of ALL ages can grow. His class structure is non-traditional in the sense that you don't have to go page by page in a workbook if you don't want to. He does his best to make learning music an exciting experience and incorporates your long-term goals into the classes. Within just a few weeks I wasn't just reading notes, I was actually understanding the notes and why they were written the way they were. He also provides notes for you after every class that go into depth of what you learned together. Additionally, he has launched a website where you can have free access to practice resources. I encourage you to take a class to find out for yourself what an amazing teacher Aaron is. Seriously the best of the best!

There were 2 other kids around her age. The teacher was patient, and explained the concepts by showing the kids how to do it. The kids had the chance to try a few simple instruments such as the hand bells, music tubes and xylophone. They were colored so it made it easy for them to follow. The only downside that's not because of the teacher is that some kids weren't paying attention or we're not following instructions so it made it hard for other kids to learn. I would've signed her up if there were private lessons for younger kids. I don't think that was an option at the time. They did have private lessons for older kids.
