The Marketing Gurus at Marston's PLC have ruined a good pub/restaurant by downgrading it to a cheap 2-for-1 eatery, in one of the East Riding's more exclusive postcodes. (yes, we were desperate to save two quid on our main meal of the day not!)The staff is helpful and try their best, but their hands are tied by Marston's.Example; The rotisserie has been removed, and now their signature chicken is dry and overcooked. A BBQ ribs and chicken dish priced at £11.55 (if you are on your own that is what you pay) consists of; half of one chicken breast (two inch square NOT the butterfly chicken breast as per their menu (http://www.sandpiperpub.co.uk/uploads/138c8d26-0d8f-86c4-25b7-defd58d38180.pdf) ), three tiny ribs, a three-inch piece of corn on the cob and some chips) I had already returned a previous lamb dish that was tiny too. This is the equivalent of two bad half-meals for the price of one.Sunday lunch used to be enjoyable, but that too has been reduced to a canteen dinner.
My detailed feedback email to Marston's elicited a brief and equally bland 'cut and paste' response that included lines such as; Please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment caused to you on this occasion. (not the first time) and I do hope that your disappointing experience will not deter you from visiting the pub again in the near future.(very unlikely)We want to vote with our feet, but Marston's own both pubs in our village the other one is marginally better. Come on Marston's, get to know your local customers better, and treat them and the food you serve with more respect. read more
