Looking for great tasting smoked pork chops? Wee bought 8 along with some of the best Canadian bacon I've had in years. Oh and their Bavarian sausage was excellent. Service was great. Ambiance is pretty rustic but this is an old fashioned meat market not some yuppie deli and their prices are lower than most meat markets I've been to. read more

I've been there about once a month all summer. I knew they weren't very friendly but my last visit tops it all. I went to the check out and the man behind the counter was gabbing with another gentleman. He never acknowledged me, the only words he said was my total. Not thanks for stopping in, nothing. Tried the hot dog food truck in Ludington last week. Had the Chili Slaw dog. Save your money. The bun was perfect, the chili and slaw good, the thing they called a hot dog was atrocious! Not a cased dog, but a small limp Ekrich dog at best. Was hoping for a great truck dog and got something that I couldn't get over fast enough. What a strange and wonderful place! We'd heard of this place for years from relatives we visit every summer who live an hour south of Custer. They'd never been, nor do they know anyone who had. We were intrigued -- the mystery of a butcher smokehouse in a tiny town in western Michigan. And Custer is tiny. This building is about the only thing there, and finding the right door was even a little weird. But once inside it is all about meat. In fact, they are butchering right there in the main room where there's a rolling counter at which you pay. It's not a big place, but it has good selection for carnivores -- great looking porkchops and ham, some nice beef tenderloin and ribeyes, lots of ground beef and racks of sausages. Unfortunately we could buy only what we could take on an airplane. The summer sausage is the finest we've had. Service that day was an enthusiastic guy ready to dole out tips and samples. Next summer, this will be our first stop for summer vacation...and we will be keeping the fire going for days. read more

I went camping near Custer and all my friends told me this was a place I must go to. The ribeye was great and priced well. I bought chuck roast for stew and it was tender within an hour. That's crazy fast! The bacon was delicious but the smallest quantity was 3 3/4 pounds. Lucky we were with a large group and were able to make it all. The "jerky" was more like a beef stick. It was difficult to bite into and much too salty. The service was strangely minimal. You can get beef and pork sliced by request, but everything else was prepackaged, hence the huge quantity of bacon. They wouldn't cube the chuck even though they sliced it from a larger cut and I offered to pay more for that service. read more

We recommend this place to everyone. We have been purchasing Sanders Hamburger for several years now. We have never had an issue with the burger. It is Fresh, Lean, & tastes great. We live in Portage, MI & have a small cabin in Scottville. Sanders meat is so good that we only purchase our burger from them. We also recommend a cheese wheel they are all fantastic! Yesterday I was given a piece of Sanders Meats smoked liver sausage and it was fantastic!!! My father use to own his own meat market/smokehouse in the Detroit area back in the day and the liver sausage tasted just like Dad's!!!
