We also had a really difficult time finding clear, up-to-date information online about their hours, so we honestly weren't sure what happened. I don't want to leave a negative review about the food or service because we never actually made it inside, but it was frustrating to plan on stopping here and not be able to figure out whether they were open. We were really looking forward to it, so hopefully we'll have better luck next time!

The shrimp was served over rice with pickled red onions, and it came with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and Mexican cheese on the side so you could build them however you wanted. Everything was delicious, but those pickled red onions were especially good! We sat out on the patio, which was a really nice area. The inside was also large and everything was very clean. The only slightly odd part of our visit was our waitress. I'm going to give her some grace because maybe she was just having a bad day, but there were a couple of interactions that felt a little strange, including when we first walked in and the way she spoke to a few people as they were being seated. That said, she was efficient, and I'll take a peculiar waitress who gets the job done over slow service any day! Overall, this was absolutely a 5-star brewery experience. Great beer, fantastic food, a nice patio, a clean and spacious atmosphere, and a menu we wished we had more time to explore. We would definitely come back!

They move people through quickly, so even when the line looks long, you aren't standing around forever. The inside is so cute and quaint, almost like stepping into an old-fashioned diner or soda fountain. It's bright, fun, clean, and has so much character. I'm still kicking myself that I've never actually stopped here for breakfast or lunch because I've heard their food is worth trying too. One of these days! We ordered from the ice cream side, where they have all of the cones and ice cream treats listed. I didn't see milkshakes and some of the other things you might expect at an old-fashioned ice cream shop on that side, although I'm pretty sure you can get more options if you sit down and order from the restaurant side. The restaurant itself felt very dated, and while we were picking up our food, employees were vacuuming and didn't stop or pause the vacuum while customers were inside. The staff wasn't rude, but it didn't make for the most welcoming experience. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment. The boneless wings were incredibly small and tasted like frozen, heavily processed chicken. Paying $13 for 10 tiny pieces felt like a poor value. The pizza was even more disappointing. Between my husband, our three children, and myself, not a single one of us enjoyed it. It was very greasy, the crust was dense with an unusual flavor we didn't care for, and overall it was just bland and unexciting. To make matters worse, despite specifically requesting disposable silverware through the online order, none was included, leaving us scrambling since we were eating away from home. Overall, spending nearly $30 on a meal that none of us enjoyed was very disappointing. Based on our experience, we have no plans to return and would not recommend it to others visiting the Ludington area.

We were seated quickly, and our waitress, Sydney, greeted us promptly. She was friendly and took the time to tell us about the daily specials and homemade soups. Two of our children ordered the kids' spaghetti, while our other child had the chicken strips and fries. I ordered the Monterey Chicken Sandwich based on Sydney's recommendation, and my husband chose the meatloaf sandwich with a cup of chicken noodle soup. Everything we ordered was good. The kids all enjoyed their meals, and I absolutely loved my sandwich. My husband enjoyed the meatloaf as well, although he mentioned he would probably try something different if we return on a future visit. The homemade pies looked incredible, but we already had dessert plans elsewhere, so we'll have to save those for another time. Overall, while the restaurant's interior may feel a bit dated, the homemade food, reasonable prices, and friendly service made for a very enjoyable meal. If you're looking for a comforting, home-cooked meal while visiting Ludington, Old Hamlin Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
