And, I was very impressed with how well the shop was put together with skateboard planks and art...with everything very evenly and meticulously spaced out. LOL! Simon cut my hair and did a great job. He is personable and friendly and has a great story. He took his time, got input from me about what I wanted, and delivered exactly that. We started talking about old punk bands and he played some of his band's music which was cool. (Sounded great, I'll definitely check them out!) With all of that and a skilled and friendly Barber, I thought the price made sense. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.... I will definitely be going back before I leave and will recommend the shop to my colleagues. In fact, I recommend Off the Map to everyone...

Rocky's an old time barber and been in business a long time. Recommended by my wife's family, Rocky is definitely old school. Gave me a true "Buddha Head" crew cut which will let me get a lot of days out of this buzz. He really liked my story of being from ID now, after bailing out of 30 years in Humboldt County, and moving to a free state. One of the other guys waiting for a hair job wanted to know what I meant by a "free state?" My opening for letting it all hang out: 1) we can carry a gun with no permit, concealed, 2) no one is banning straws, 3) we don't get charged a dime for a damn grocery sack, 4) we don't have no stinking sanctuary cities, 5) and a dozen other things. This is just a plain, good old-fashioned barbershop. Not a salon, not a stylist, Ted is a barber. Plain and simple. My haircuts are always simple, I just ask my barber to use a "number five blade", and I get the exact same haircut every time. It's short, but not "Boot Camp." While I was in the chair and Ted was cutting my hair he was just plain down to earth. We were just chatting about this, that, what's going on in the news, and nothing special. Just like going to the barber used to be. He's very friendly, and very personable. I got a great cut, and he even trimmed my eyebrows. The charge was $26, plus tip, which, for Humboldt County, is very reasonable. From now on, if I need a haircut while I'm in town, I know where I'm coming. Thank you so much!
