4th grade building block, birdhouses handcrafted over a few months.

The heart at Sanderling is unparalleled. The teachers care so deeply for my two children and it is truly a community. We moved here during COVID and my children have done kindergarten through middle school here. They insist on staying until they finish their 8th grade projects! The school is non profit, so all tuition goes back into supporting your children. Involved parents will find a home here and be embraced by a no/low media community. No cell phones, no tv. Typing and computer courses begin in middle grades. Spanish and German are taught through all grades; cursive; gardening, plus all the standard subjects. It is unique.

What a wonderful, loving and rich program. Our children have been attending Sanderling since Early Childhood (preschool) and are currently in 2nd (with Ms. Evi) and 4th (Ms. Lisa). Sanderling truly focuses on each individual child and ensures the WHOLE child is treated with love and respect. The school community is so supportive and engaged and the teachers are truly amazing. We are beyond grateful for the experience our children receive. My kids look forward to going to school every day, and their love of learning is inspiring. I credit this love of school and learning to the love and respect that they receive from each of their teachers.

Miss Stephanie is hands down the best Spanish teacher ever! She makes learning a new language feel like an adventure filled with songs, smiles, and excitement. My kid comes home chattering away in Spanish like it's second nature! And huge shoutout to Pennie and Susan, who keep this school running like a well loved family. They manage everything with organization, kindness, and a calm confidence that instantly makes you feel safe and supported. You can tell they pour their hearts into making sure every child is learning, safe, and having fun every day. If you want a school that's nurturing, educational, joyful, and full of people who genuinely care, Star Montessori is the place. Five stars, easily, and I'd give more if I could!

She hosts regular meetings for parents to talk to her and will also always be happy to hop on a meeting any afternoon to discuss any questions and concerns. The program itself stood out to me immediately for being a really good supportive model for development. The students are not playing "Lord of the Flies" out in the woods, they are guided and supported by amazing teachers who spend their afternoons writing documentation of the learning in their classrooms and designing emergent curriculum. We could not be happier with the school we chose and our daughter loves school passionately. We have even decided to keep her in Native School another year instead of moving to the free public TK because of how much we love the program and the teachers.

The frequent and disruptive staff changes significantly effected my 4 year old son who was upset to see teachers come and go. At the end of our semester for 2024-2025 it became worse and substitutes/new faces were very common. We were told by some teachers that quit that safety regs/guidelines were not being followed(especially on rainy/stormy days). All that being said, we decided to pull our child out from the Fall 2025 semester. We had already paid for it but we figured we would be returned our reservation money due to the circumstances. Management refused our first attempt to reimburse us even after my child's spot was filled(Bad business etiquette). So here we are with our reviews and our next steps will be small claims. In the contract it states that they will maintain a consistent and properly staffed program...That was not our experience.

The staff turnover is low, the tuition is more reasonable then other providers, with a lovely space. I find that they strike a healthy balance between play, activities, and structure. The preschool is also a very nice facility, with spacious and well appointed classrooms, a large playground, and a small teacher to student ratio. They also spend a good amount of time playing outside or with activities which I believe is vital for this age group. They are a faith based preschool, they are inclusive to all. This is not a review I ever expected to have to write, especially because our son absolutely loved this school. Our son had just turned 3 while he was attending and this was his very first preschool experience. He attended three mornings a week for approximately two months and became very attached to his teachers. He was happy to go to school, talked about his teachers at home, and we genuinely loved seeing him become comfortable in a school environment. We also really liked the school and trusted that we had found a place where he would be supported. During the last week and a half, he began having some hitting behaviors. The school and I discussed this and a proactive behavior plan was created specifically to help him. I was also repeatedly reassured by his teachers that they understood he was new to preschool, that they were completely fine giving him time to adjust, and that everything was okay. Then, literally the next day, we were told by the director/owner that he could no longer attend and that an in-home daycare would be a better fit. I am devastated by how abruptly this happened. We had JUST discussed giving him time and putting a plan in place to help him. The plan was never even given the opportunity to be implemented or evaluated before he was removed. I reached out to the director asking her to reconsider and allow our son the opportunity to try the plan. I asked why the plan had not been implemented. I asked for documentation regarding the reasons for removing him, what specific behaviors had occurred, and the behavior records. My emails were ignored. What makes the situation even more upsetting is the timing. Shortly before he was removed, I had asked questions as his mother about toileting procedures and interactions with my child, including concerns he had communicated to me. I believe every parent has the right to ask questions about how their child is being cared for. I found the timing of the school's decision extremely concerning. The hardest part of all of this is that our 3-year-old doesn't understand why he can't go back to the school he loved or see the teachers he was so attached to. I have had to explain to my child that he won't be returning to a place he genuinely loved, and as his mother, that has been heartbreaking. I have saved the emails, messages, screenshots, and documentation surrounding this entire situation, including the communications regarding the behavior plan and the subsequent requests for information that went unanswered. I am sharing this review because I feel other parents deserve to know about our experience. I truly wish this had been handled differently. We were willing to work with the school. We were willing to give our son time. We were willing to follow the behavior plan. We believed we were partnering with the school to help our child. Instead, our son was removed before the plan was even given a chance, and our subsequent questions were left unanswered. For a child who had only just turned 3 and was experiencing preschool for the first time, I expected patience, communication, and a genuine opportunity to work through a behavioral adjustment. We did not feel that we received that. This experience has been incredibly painful for our family, and I hope the school takes a very serious look at how situations like this are handled in the future.

Out of desperation, I pounced on the first opening I found at KinderCare. I'll forever regret that decision. The assistant director even told me, "KinderCare isn't known for those crazy child abuse stories." And I believed her, without doing my own research. A simple search would have proven her wrong before I signed my daughter up. From the start, it was obvious my baby hated being there -- and it wasn't just separation from me. The staff seemed burned out, and my little girl was left to cry alone in corners. She would scream in relief when I picked her up, and she gave me that heartbreaking "mommy, where were you?" look. She came home with marks on her multiple times. Every time I asked, I got the same runaround: "no one saw what happened" or "another child pushed her." The worst was when I noticed her pacifier clipped awkwardly in the center of her chest. Later, during bath time, I found a bruise in the exact spot. When I called, the story shifted again -- from "no one knows" to "another child pushed her that morning." I knew in my heart it was more than that. The thought of an adult being frustrated and snapping the clip onto her chest still breaks me. I pulled her out after just three weeks -- three weeks too long. She's at a new center now, and the difference is night and day. She's happy to go to school, and of course happy to see me at pick-up, but not with that same fear and sadness in her eyes.
