We have stayed here several times over the last 6 years. Unfortunately we haven't been able to visit the last 2 years. The room was clean and convenient, however the mattress were horrific. They seemed as if they were simply box springs and they failed to use a mattress. 4 sleepless nights and hurting in the morning due to how extremely uncomfortable the bed was. The bed is very old. She shower head is so low I have to get on my knees to wash my hair and I'm only 5'4'. The toilet looks like something that came from nursery school. The TV is no bigger than a computer monitor. They skipped on the towels and pillows. Everything is just super cheap. This is one step above camping. For $96. I have never stayed at a place where you have to empty your own trash and you have to pick up after yourself , and still pay a lot for what?? The beds are absolutely horrible!! My back is killing me. I'd rather go stay in a hotel, your on vacation, shouldn't have ti worry about emptying your own dam trash!! The flies are terrible here in the rooms. The hot and cold are backwards in the shower. The curtains are see through. It needs a lot of TLC before I ever come back here!!! Like new beds new curtains less flies. New screens on the windows. I don't normally leave any reviews but I just had to we paid $236 for2 nights. I'd rather go pay that and more and travel a little ways to Bennett springs to fish before I ever stay here again!! read more

Our family loves this place. Absolutely love the campground. We come around 5 times a year for the last 5 years. Several friends bring their campers and stay with us. Owner and employees are so accommodating. Bar and grill is very clean and good food. During the week it is so quiet but weekends during peek floating get a little noisy around hotel but it's a lot of families out having a lot of fun Friday and Saturday night. All outside playing games with kids or just hanging out. Definitely our kids and grandchildren love coming. Always asking when are we going back! Rinehart family floaters!! read more

We went here to Kayak because they had Jackson kayaks . The owner suggested we start from 4 miles upstream and float down to our car because if we floated downstream from there we would have to set a time to be picked up and he didn't want to do that. What the owner didn't tell us was that the river upstream had little water because it isn't fed by the spring like it is the other side of the bridge further down. We spent more time pulling the kayaks over the rocks than we did floating! It was a disaster. When we went to the office, a person working there said no one had kayaked from the drop off upstream for almost 2 weeks. The owner came out and said there were people taking that route in the morning. He lied and was billigerent and couldn't care less that we had a terrible time. Will go to NRO down the road from now on. If you love to kayak - DON'T RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE!! read more

Plus side. Really close to Bennett Spring State Park. Moderate price. Clean room. A shower which every dirty fisherman appreciates. Lunch counter on site. The not so positive side. Noise. Lots of it. Brings earplugs (I did) if you want to sleep during the busy season. Room decor is circa 1961. You will feel like Mayberry invaded an episode of Mad Men. Service OK but not exceptional. If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not stay here. We were harassed by another group of campers and no one did anything about it. The security guard let them stay on property after they threw beer, lit cigarettes and were touching people in our group. We did not feel safe staying there. Police came and made them leave, then they just returned later. The owner did not do anything but refund us. Again, do not stay here. read more

Went here for a weekend trip to go fishing at Bennett Springs. About the only thing nice about this place was the location of how close it was to Bennett Springs. As we were getting into bed on our second night, we pulled back our sheets only to find a charming little salamander laying under the comforter. We called the front desk and received no call back the following day during their office hours. We then discussed the issue with the front desk at the time of check out. Their response was, "You're not the only ones that had an issue with those this weekend. And someone else had issues with raccoons." I understand the whole wanting-to-be-in-nature idea, but WOW! I've attached a lovely photo of the salamander that decided he wanted to snuggle with us over night. Definitely do not recommend Sand Spring Resort. Not only were their HUGE pest/animal issues, but management had no intentions of fixing the issues. read more

While our float trip itself was amazingly fun, this place almost ruined our trip. First off, when they say primitive camping, they mean it with not toilets or porta potties available after hours. Even during business hours, you have to go to a completely different area up by the main office which is quite a hike to get there. Now for the especially bad part, our first night, we were caught between a bachelor party that had some very awful guys in it (already kicked out of a different campsite) that fondled other women and even destroyed another campsites property and the campsite they destroyed. The security did nothing about this and so the sheriff was called. They were there till 2 in the morning and even then, things were not enforced. There were 3 different campsites total (including the one vandalized) that were not connected in anyway confirming what happened. We found out the next day, one of the guys that ran when the sheriff showed up went and caused trouble and got into a physical fight in another campsite during this time. The owner not only chose not to do a thing about them but even went so far as to joke with them when they came in to pay for their rentals and then literally turned his back on us and walked off when we tried to tell him one of the girls in our group was one of the ones fondled. The security guard even said that was the worst night he has had in all five years of working there yet nothing was done and the ones that were affected literally had their backs turned to them and everyone was discounted even with all the witnesses. If you are a group of girls or have women in your group that you care about, DO NOT stay here as you will not have any kind of support or back up if guys decide to be inappropriate. read more

This place is disgusting! First we got a Hair with a side of fried mushrooms. Then for the main course they brought us HAIR again with a side of chicken sandwich. I simply asked the staff to take care of the problem. Not to refund our money or new food but simply to take care of the problem. Then here comes the drunk bar owner. Starts telling us he doesn't have anyone in his kitchen with that color hair and that it must have come from my 11yr old's head twice! Unreal disgusting. We spent three nights in a kitchenette unit during a trip to fish at Bennett Springs State Park. This resort is located right on the Niangua River. On the other side of the river is the entrance road to Bennett Springs State Park. The room was not fancy but it was clean and a decent size. The full kitchen had a dining table. There were two beds, two easy chairs, and a desk with a chair. They had WiFi, but it was a bit flakey in the room. Our room was next to an indoor pool. We didn't use the pool so I cannot comment on it. There is a playground for the kids, a fire pit by the river, and grills available. The restaurant was closed on Tues and Weds. There were not a lot of other guests while we were there and it was very quiet. I'm not sure how it would be on a weekend. The Hunts Bro Pizza in the lobby was surprisingly good and quite reasonable. read more

The people who work here are very friendly! We were greeted warmly. Float trip was easy. We camped. The campground is on grass. So if there has been rain. It will be pretty muddy. Only portapots at campsite. To shower you need to head up the hill to main resort. The showers are old and one set is rigged pretty interesting. But it's camping! Our tent site #2 was very scenic. Great views. Family oriented and right by river. If you are used to state parks and amenities to camp. This isn't the place probably. Again, our site had a good view. Float take off was right there. I didn't eat at restaurant. And they had good live music on weekends. read more

The RV sites are okay. Water pressure is fair. Electrical didn't work well at all . We lost power in the middle of the night. Our neighbor said they had a similar issue during the day. I went to speak to the owner in the morning and he was the rudest person. I asked if we could get some kind of compensation for that night for not having power most of the evening. He let me know the box is fine and I should of called. Not his problem. I just couldn't believe it. I said at 1 am? He was just a jerk! What happened to customer service. Not here. Not to mention the bathroom/ shower house is very disgusting and that saying it mildly. read more

My husband and I just spent Good Friday through Easter morning at Sand Spring. It had been over 30 years since our last visit. Our room was clean, but it was incredibly noisy. People on one side of us kept their TV on loud 24/7 "for the dogs," which is our main complaint. People on the other side had two small children; they sounded like they were tearing the room apart. We travel with a 13-year old black Lab. She is better behaved than most children (at least the ones next door) and has NEVER been kenneled. We first called Riverwood (preferred); they were booked. Homestead (which was Vogel's the last time we stayed) told us UPFRONT that dogs have to be kenneled while in the room. That is why we ended up at Sand Spring. At no time was I told dogs were not allowed in rooms unattended. Because our keys (3) did not work well, we told the front desk we would not be locking our room. We thought we were doing them a favor by telling them NOT to enter the room (we did not have a "Do Not Disturb" sign) because our dog was in there while we dined. She's not mean at all, but we didn't know how she would react to a stranger entering the room. We were told, in no uncertain terms, that dogs were not allowed in the room unattended. Every single room with dogs had a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door because their dog(s) were in the room unattended. We learned this from talking to the individuals. If you do not want dogs unattended in the room, don't accept them at all. I get it that some dogs are destructive and cannot be left alone, which makes those of us with disciplined dogs suffer. What's the solution in the summer when it's 100 degrees out and I'm going to dinner? Do you want me to take my dog into the Gravel Bar & Grill? I'm certainly not going to leave my dog in my car!!! You seriously need to think this through. Again, that's your choice, but if that's your policy, you need to tell people upfront. In addition, if your facilities are not in working order (i.e., pool, hot tub, heat lamp in bathroom), perhaps you should offer a discount. We won't be back! read more

My husband, daughter, son-n-law and I just recently spent 3 night at Sand Spring Resort in a kitchenette Unit. The reason I'm giving this place a 5 star is because they were friendly pleasant and helped us with what ever we needed. The place is dated but we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean. The beds were clean and but full size. But we made it work. It was close to the HVO where the rest of our friends where camping at. It was close to Bennett Springs where we all fished at. We checked out the pool area. The pool looked nice and clean. We did not get a chance to use it though. We planned a kayak trip. The price was reasonable. We had a great time! We are going to try and plan this to be a yearly group trip. We will stay here again! read more
