Campground was nice :-) but I will mention two things... our trashcan was full when we got there, the owners might wanna double check trash cans before people arrive :-) and we requested a shower key when we got there and were told that there weren't any available at that time?? Review Summary: This place needs to be shut down! Read if you want but it's long... Maybe I'm just new to the MO camping experience but this is unlike any campground I've ever been to. This is basically just a place for professional hippies to hang out at all summer and fund their hippie lifestyle by renting out canoes and cabins - they don't care if customers are satisfied as long as they have SOME money coming in. Now I have to say I don't have a problem w/ hippies. I am from Austin but this was a whole new level. We get there around 2:30 to check in and the office is locked w/ a sign that says back at 12:00. (Hippies don't believe in wearing watches.) Then the couple helping didn't seem to realize that anyone was even staying that night even though I made the reservations 2 months prior. We had to wait an hour for our cabin to be cleaned and actually get into it. We got into our cabin and it still wasn't very clean - the guy could have swept the floor. And for $70 a night you'd think there would be a small kitchenette. There was certainly room for one. We asked about WiFi because I (stupidly) didn't make sure my Spotify music was in offline mode and one girl (the nicest one from NY) said the password was $2.00 so when we came back later another guy was like "here is it..." with out charging and while I was circling the building trying to get my signal back another creepy girl was like "there's no phone service and we can't give out the WiFi since we have 5 other computers - it would be too slow." Really? I didn't think true hippies believed in technology?! Actually, she said "there's no service" in a "no one will hear your cries when we eat you tonight!" tone. Clearly these people aren't clear on the rules of the camp. Then for our float we had to wait 1.5 hours after the shuttle time and as we were waiting on one bus the crowd was crazy. I don't mean college-kid, drunk and silly crazy. I mean, are you sure your trailer isn't in flames right now from all that meth you've been making in there?? OMG I've never been so out of place in my life. One guy, missing most of his teeth [whatever was left was black], decided somewhere along the way that women would actually show him their tatas for Jello shots. "Um...you're gonna have to fork over a LOT more than that dude!" I JUMPED off when a guy came on and said there was a kid bus! Our neighbors were pretty cool and we talked about it later that night about how they should have bailed also. Did I mention the park brake on the bus didn't work so they used a heavy wooden block to keep the bus in park?! That HAS to be illegal. The one good thing was our cabin was far from everything else (including the river - no bueno) so things weren't so bad when it was just us but dealing with these people and the majority of the other floaters was just a nightmare. read more

My decision to review Mountain creek and become a member of this site was motivated mostly by review #1. To explain, I was looking for the campground's upcoming festival schedule and came upon this website/review. First, the review and then response to the comments of Lori L. Mountain Creek is a laid back campground - it is simple, primitive, and rustic with not a lot of boundries as most campgrounds go, although some would not appreciate this and if you insist on state park type rules, don't come here becuase it is not a structured, high volume campground. If you need something, ask, don't expect. I stayed in September and it was so open and nobody else was camping nearby so I let my airedale run along river for short time and he loved it. If you are a dog owner, how cool is that? He did go back on leash. I'm not suggesting anyone can do this here, it was my bad, but my point is that I would not have done that at most campgrounds - but mountain creek is big with a lot of room - there's no numbered sites I know of. If you want to exhale and enjoy nature here you go. Except for the great festivals, when my nonhippie, educated, professional husband and I stayed at this campground in our microlite, we were not among crowded, camping cubicles. The riverfront sites don't have electricity so if you want to be on the river in a trailer, be prepared but it's worth it. We could literally jump into the river from our campsite or short walk down to it- the view was also great. I think this area is the best but it cannot accommodate more than primitve sites due to flooding. I don't believe they let you take a big RV to this area - and I would not want to, as they have hookups on higher ground, along with some cabins. As for the first review, wow, so sorry Lori L. your experience was bad. However, i f you want to stay at a Hilton, don't go to a Motel 6 and expect the same. My big issue is your totally negative and degrading stereotyping of anyone you encountered. You say "you have nothing against hippies", but wow, you contradicted yourself with your totally predispositioned, degrading comments with each incident, yet never described anything objectively worthwile as a review. Hippies need some money, dont care about telling time, or technology, what an expert. If you encountered an area non-white, like the caribbean, and did not like the service, what racial stereotypes would you state as fact - like you did here? Why did you stay here to begin with if you did the reseach? Or could I stereotype you and assume you did not pay for this trip? Negative, narrow minded, biased comments about the employees that are not even descriptive of their service or lack of, insult the entire community and not just mountain creek. Your entire review was geared at making degrading, offensive, comments for your immature selfish amusement that is inappropriate and not appreciated. Take your snot nosed sense of humor elsewhere. How was the float trip, the river - no descriptions there, just nasty remarks about a business that is wow, totally inappropriate. I am surprised the owner was nice in her response in that, while taking responsibility for her employees, only accused you of exaggeration. Just because these people are not protected racial minorites, you don't have the right to call them meth heads or worse, child molestors - I speculate with the kids bus comment - whose interpretive mind was really in the gutter? I saw nothing of this behavior and stayed not long after you did. This site is not to bully and degrade classes of people from where you stayed at but to provide useful info for others. Great place! People are super friendly, the cabin and camp ground were clean. They have free wi-fi but it only works real close to the club house. They were very accomadating, And even though the dogs weren't allowed on the cabin we were able to switch out double raft rental to one raft and one canoe so the dogs could come along with us. Overall I would definitely go again! read more

First and most important the bathrooms/showers are very clean and are in good shape. They do have Handy Johns out on the camp ground but are ok. Staff was very friendly and help full. The water slide was a big hit with my family, hours of fun. Camp sites are well spaced so you don't fell cramped in and on top of your camping neighbors. I have to say mountaincreek is a great place to camp and to have fun . But not always for kids as some like to smoke their weed and show off the tatas. But as for adults it is a great place to let your hair down and to have fun. Float trips , swimming,and camping is great. The people are very friendly. It has always been one of my favorite places to camp and have fun. But as I said it isnt for kids. To many things for kids to see that they shouldnt. I know my daughters dont want the kids down there because to many people are to open about their business.There was alot of drug activity last year and the drug bust and the death of 2 men there was horrifying to hear. It happens I know but it needs a handle on it all. But my experience with Mountain creek has always been great!! Love you guys Laura and Chris. Miss you down there in the summer.:-) read more

I must agree with the review from last year. Earth day at mountain creek was a joke. No security what so ever. I watched a guy get attacked for trying to hug another person. They sold blue braceletes for five bucks to people so they could use their restrooms and showers and then proceded to close and lock the restrooms and didnt offer refunds to the people who purchased the braceletes. You can forget the previous reviews! New owners and it was a wonderful experience in spite of the unusual river flooding due to all that rain in July. We joined a family get together that had young children and grandmothers there. We had a motor home, two trailers and five tents. Everyone had a great time and the bathroom/showers were very clean and well appointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We plan to go back again when the river co-operates so we can do the canoe trip. Beautiful campground, nice people. read more

We went back again this summer and had another great experience. The new owners definitely cleaned the place up. The giant slip and slide was fun for all ages, and the newly remodeled bathrooms were welcome as well! read more

We went there this summer 2014 and had a blast. Most of the land was flat and easy to walk on and the river was beautiful. The bathrooms were clean, no trash, but the one handle of the shower didn't work, so I just used another one. There wasn't much privacy in the shower, since the door only came up to my shoulders and was up in the air at the bottom to my knees, but it was Ok. It was coed, but no men were in there when I showered and my husband just waited outside for me. No problem. The place to buy items was pretty well stocked and the people were very nice. The owner even gave me a pair of shoes to wear instead of buying a pair because my shoes stuck in the mud. The gravel road going into the place went into an uneven muddy path, but it was all good for us. Just happy to be there. There was no cell phone tower for ATT and only sprint phones worked. We had no electricity, so we all shared solar power. Had a big party all night by the river all on solar power. It was a blast. read more

WOW. Such a poorly-run business. This is definitely a place that caters to individuals who want to do a one-day floating trip and drink a ton of alcohol. I just finished a two-day float trip downstream and the organization was TERRIBLE, the staff was NOT HELPFUL, and the river was in HORRIBLE condition. Some parts of the river required us to get out, unload the canoe, and carry it a distance. Some areas led into unmarked dead ends, which were impossible to get out of. With all of the fallen trees lying in the middle of the stream, it made for white-water canoeing. AVOID THIS PLACE FOR 2-DAY FLOAT TRIPS. read more
