The name says it all-sand. There is a lot of sand and sandstone, so prepare for a slippery walk/climb up to the caves. However, once you're up there, it's worth the effort. The views of the land below are magnificent and the natural made caves are a sight to behold. It's not too difficult of a hike, but the steep hill paired with the slippery rocks will make it tricky for small children or dogs-although I saw plenty of both. I also saw, disappointingly, a couple different people carving their names into the sandstone. Come on, guys, don't do that.

Awesome! But do be careful! I wish someone put a rope or even a small flag to show which way is "safer" to climb. Further away from the cave is a safer slope to climb. Anyrates, I saw even young ones come up and down, I actually did slide a bit and hit my butt on the bottom rock (I may have bruised it hehe). Anyrates, this was my 2nd time here and it was really really fun. And much more fun than the Belly of the Dragon!

This is a fantastic stop to stretch your legs. There is not a designated path to get to the sand caves. The further you walk North from the caves the easier and lees step it is to get to the caves. This is an absolute must see.

My 4 star rating is a combination of two experiences, mine and my husbands. For him, this was a 5 star experience as he is fit and had on good walking shoes. For me, this was a 3 star experience at best because I am overweight and have a small senior dog that is with me pretty much all the time. The walk from the parking area to the caves is not a difficult one. There are some small altitude changes, some rocky terrain and the path is narrow, so there are times when you will have to wait for people going the opposite direction and it can be tricky to try and "pass up" a slower walker in front of you. It was beautiful weather when we went, warm and cloudy, and we wore t-shirts but it didn't feel as peaceful as most hikes we do because the busy road is always in view and in earshot and the cars are quite noisy. When we reached the caves, there were a lot of people. There were people waiting around, people up at the caves, people walking on the cliffside. You have to traverse a steep cliff and incline to get up to the path where the caves are and there are no signs so it was quite chaotic. There was no designated path and I saw numerous people slip and fall including a small child. I had intended on heading up to the cave but after watching other people and watching a much bigger and younger dog than mine struggle to make it up the cliff, I decided to stay at the bottom. My husband was able to make it up the cliffside and walk the path to the caves. He said it was narrow up top as well and you have to be careful when passing people or meeting people going the other direction. He stated that it was very cold up top in the caves and if you go in far enough it gets pitch black, so in addition to good hiking shoes, I would recommend bringing a jacket and a flashlight. He had to slide on his way back down and was quite sore the next day. Still for him, it was a fun experience. There are some amazing photos of the caves on this page, but I assume the folks who took those pictures came very early because it was packed with people when we came and I heard many people talking about how rude others were being and how long they were having to wait for people to move so they could get a photo. It took us a little over 2 hours to park, hike do the caves and return but if you are fit and young with no kinds or dogs you could probably do it in half the time. I hope this information is helpful to anyone deciding whether this location is worth the stop. Happy travels!

Nice little place to go. The cave is nice, bring a book to enjoy even more. It is a short trail but there is a goat passage you must go through.

Amazing view for a short hike. You do have to scale some cliff sides which can be scary but wear good shoes and take it slow. There was only two signs we saw that help direct us to the caves but didn't see anything beyond that point. We saw a family scaling the cliff and figured that was the way up. We did have our 60 lbs dog with us and it was a little scary having her climb as well but we stayed calm and took it slow. We had the entire cave to ourselves which was awesome. The view points do drop off so be careful with kids and dogs to ensure they don't go too close. The view was so beautiful! It does overlook the freeway but you could barely hear it which was nice. Lots of carvings and graffiti. This was a fun morning hike that I think is well worth it! Again, when climbing up wear good shoes and take it slow. The Caves will still be there!

Exciting, dangerous, fun, beautiful, awesome. Not sure what else can describe this trail. The parking is is off US 89. Moqui Cave just north of the location. If you drive north of US 89 past Moqui cave then you are over the location. Some time you see people walk on the cliff, that is sand cave trail to top. I would not recommend people have less motor skill to try this cave. If you know how to walk the roof in slope, then you are equipped to do so. It is dangerous for many to try. But if know how to plant your foot well, it is good one to explore. No mark trail. You need to climb slope trail in a way Zip Zag to get to flat trail. Do not try to cross your foot when climbing it. Alway plant foot with room for other foot. The cave have a lot of marking graffiti. It is awesome to take pictures while you are at it. The view is awesome and dangerous. While I still have the motor skills, I have done that. Some climbing technique is needed.

This is a very cool FREE experience. You have a little walk. I recommend wearing good shoes with traction. Also, take some water with you. You could even pack a lunch and enjoy the view.

J.c. holds a wealth of knowledge and experience of the lay of the land, we were a party of four in one utv and there was a party of two in another utv, with J.c. leading the way through twist and turns to get to the canyon, the ride to get there was a great experience in its self!, it was a bumpy ride but that's the lay of the land!, your going to get dusty and dirty so expect it, and you need closed toe shoes as well. It's about a 15 minute ride from the base to the entrance to the canyon and well worth the ride!!, but when you get to the canyon that's where nature and J.c. wow you with such grand beauty and the wealth of knowledge that J.c. shares with you and the hike that you take through the canyon, nothing strenuous or stressful at all. You spend time exploring through the canyon and that's where you can take great pictures of the walls and the different topography that is there!, the weather was mild, mid to high seventy's so your comfortable in light layers, but again you will be dusty/ dirty but it's well worth it, pricing if fair, so make sure you book with them for any specials or discounts that are available, it's about a two hour excursion, so you really get your $$$ worth. So do your self a favor and book with this company and book one of the many excursion that is available to you!, again or guide/ host was J.c. super cool guy, and I know everyone else there that are guides are great as well, but J.c. was our guy.

Before even hiring Yermo he talked to me for a long time regarding all the things I would need to make this trip successful. We were originally going to start at Wire Pass to incorporate the Buckskin Gulch, but once we got there he informed us it was quite flooded in areas and would be too difficult to get through so we started at Whitehouse trailhead instead. My friend had gotten a new Iphone 17 and we were able to communicate with Yermo a few times during the hike. You don't see many people along the way and it was comforting knowing we had someone who would keep us informed. We had an amazing and safe trip!!! Our experience was exceptional, start to finish. We originally booked White Pocket, but owner Yermo was helpful in accommodating an itinerary change when we also secured a permit for South Coyote Buttes, weeks later. When we arrived in Page, there was good follow-through in messaging us about our meeting point, timing, and contact details, and all rolled absolutely seamlessly on the tour. Our guide, Brand, made the entire day shine -- he's exceedingly knowledgeable, prepared, friendly, and astute, taking the client's skill level and wishes into full account. He and others at Seeking Treasure also serve as the backups to the local search-and-rescue crew, so you could not ask for a more equipped and experienced team. Brand showed us everything from the most popular vantages to those that were more obscure but even more exciting and beautiful in perspective. He is also a highly capable driver in the route's deep sands, and the vehicle was comfortable and sturdy. Having a private guide is always an immensely preferable option, and Seeking Treasure Adventures ensures a personalized tour that will help you find the treasure you seek -- simply outstanding!

The guides, Glade and Hannah, were terrific, like personal chefs there to assure you had a great time and were safe. They aimed at the best part of every rapid- a real E-ticket ride. Some advice: 1. bring more alcohol-it was hot in August, probably 100, we are not big drinkers but 3-4 cold beers a day would sure have been nice, we ran out on day 6 2. wear light colored clothes if the weather is going to be warm 3. bring a walking stick, very helpful on the hikes scrambling over boulders and rocks 4. bring more alcohol 5. a waterproof day pack to have some gear readily accessible on the raft would have been nice 6. Have a set of river shoes, and a set of hiking shoes for shore excursions. My river shoes were great on wet rocks in the river, but tenuous at best when hiking 7. bring more alcohol 8. I balked at the sarong idea and regretted it, sarong would have been great to keep cool on the raft and to provide additional sun protection 9. Gel or spray on deodorant would have been nice, I brought body wash but it did not really cut it. 10. Consider going in May-mid July time frame when river is running clear. Once monsoon season starts in Arizona the river runs silty. Still a great trip.
