It's a fun track first. Some good holes. Drivable or four. Nice mix of stuff. Views are pretty. One of the nicer layouts. The conditions vary from good to poor but the poor tend to be spots that clearly just need work. Areas around the green are suspect and areas off the fairways tend to be hard and beat up. Traps are a mixed bag For what is usually forty bucks on a weekend it's a decent deal. Except.... The pace is interminable. We were the second group off a week ago. Four plus hours. After 745 it's five hours. They do try but it's hard I guess to yell at residents. It's a typical public course. Some good players but a lot of people just out for fun. So be aware if busy plan in five hours But other than that it's a good track. And again sort of fun read more

RANGE REVIEW: Love the actual golf course itself but this review is strictly for their range. Who the hell is managing the range? Went there yesterday and it was like playing in dirt in someone's rough backyard. They have all this green grass behind the hitting line and it looks like they haven't moved the hitting line in months. They don't mow the hitting area at all and they want to charge $18 for a large bucket? If you're going to have a grass range in this bad of shape, just set up the mats at that point. I honestly don't know why there are so many low reviews. I went here for the first time on one of the last days of the season and it was still kept up pretty good. The layout is very good with many tee boxes having a high elevation. The only complaint I have did not affect me because there wasn't many people playing but the cart paths were very long to each hole and crossed through other tee boxes. read more

The course is in terrible shape and it took 6 hours to play 18 holes.... No ranger to be seen to speed up play. Very disappointing!

Course is very okay. Driving range is atrocious. The amount of times I come here and the range is closed is probably as many as open. A whole slew of excuses have been given from nobody on staff to collect balls, broken ball machine, or the usual "it's too wet". It'll be 5 days after it rains and still will claim it's too wet. I drive out here only to be met with a "range closed" sign. Of course when it is actually wet out, I call ahead to check. But on days where one would expect it to be open, far too frequently this place disappoints. I shouldn't have to call each and every time I want to stop by here. Be better read more

I have played this course since it opened. We went Sunday and won't be back anytime soon. They now charge $58 for 18 with a cart. It was about a $20 course in the shape it was in. The cart paths were just awful with all kinds of pot holes and beat to crap. Kitchen was closed as we were planning on grabbing lunch at the turn. The staff that was there were A+. Hope they can turn it around. read more

Course was very overbooked with tee times coming too soon in between.. I was told 6 minutes which is ridiculous. Were late in teeing off and spent over 5 hours for our round. Course was in okay shape but hole configurations and layout of course was very confusing for first time players. The course had several BLIND drives without any assistance at the tee box. We also learned that the course was built on an old land fill which explained some of the stink we experienced on some of the holes. Better courses in the area I am sure for our golfing dollar. Played a round here a few weeks ago with some work colleagues and it was a fun time! The course is in fair condition, nothing great. It seems that drainage is an issue in several places. Some challenges and some drivable holes - the scenery is great. I wish the driving range was open earlier and that the putting green had actual holes on it. So Troy decides to build a golf course because every municipality should have at least 2 courses under their belt. While an old garbage dump might seem like a great place for another Pine Knob or Mt. Holly (hint: diversify), apparently the city council wanted to find another revenue source to make up for the failing library and/or water park (read the public minutes and you will learn very shortly this place is hemorrhaging money). OK, enough with the politics and now for my course review: Overpriced:) I would much rather play Sylvan or plenty of other courses in the area for less money. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice course. Sanctuary Lake does everything wrong when it comes to course setup, management and design. Be prepared to play a 5+ hr round if you play during the weekend. Most people blame slow play on the people, but this one is ALL management, and it always amazes me how oblivious they can be: Let's start from the top. You know it's going to be a long day when you get to the first tee, and they're running 20-25 minutes late, and you had a 10am tee time. The ONLY way this happens is by having tee times which are too close together. 6 minutes at S.L., which is absolutely nuts. If you can't keep your players teeing off on time, then it's YOUR fault, because you're jamming too many people in together. Two, the layout is awful. 4 or 5 completely blind tee shots, some of which the tee box aims you toward the opposing fairway. How someone who has ever played this course is supposed to know where to aim is beyond me. But what it ends up doing is having people look for balls all over the place, because there are few landmarks, and once you get into other fairways, you slow down yourself and the other groups. Three, blind tee shots in which there are unseen hazards and long grass. So it's bad enough when you can't see your shot land, but then having long grass which you can't see from the tee and it only slows things down even more. Four, 3 tee boxes which all converge in the same very small area. #1, 7 and 12, if I remember correctly. You'll have half a dozen carts which make it look like a traffic jam. ALL four of these is the fault of management, and they are the sole cause of 5+ hour rounds. On top of all of that, they use ILLEGAL, yes, ILLEGAL cup "rings" which go all the way up to the surface. Look it up Supers, the cup liner has to be 1" below the surface of the green according to the USGA. These things SUCK. They're for the lazy superintendents, so they don't have to move the pins every day. What ends up happening is that the holes develop an "anthill" effect, where everything breaks away from the hole. Finally, the stench on this property around the 1, 7, and 12 is disgusting. It literally smells like someone took a crap on the first tee box depending on the wind direction. I couldn't wait to leave this place. I'll never play another Troy course outside of some special event. read more

Short track and the greens are always cut long and run slow. Driving range closes at 4 on Sunday..... 4 o'clock?? Bartenders were stellar but the staff in general doesn't seem to care about your experience. They want you in and out. read more

This course is an absolute joke. Was playing a few Mondays ago as a twosome. On the second tee box saw an 8some on 16s green, and the ranger over there talking to them. Then we get to 4 and see the 8some jumped from 16 to 4. We finished 4 before they even finished teeing off on 5 so we skipped them because they clearly had no intentions of letting us play through. While writing down the scores on 6s tee box a guy yelled over from 5s green telling us "they were next on that hole and to keep our (homophobic slur) asses moving" very disappointed in this courses management that not only did the ranger allow an 8some to keep playing together but also allowed them to skip around wherever they wanted to. Can't believe that this course condones that type of bigotry. Never returning to this course. read more

Only been there 2x, both times awful. No ref; just takes forever. No system in place whatsoever. Grounds are unkept. I mean, it took 1.5 hrs to play 3 holes, absolutely ridiculous. The guy who checks you off the list is a weirdo, and super intrusive. He essentially climbed in our cart, putting his leg up on the cart so my partner couldn't get back in. Just a weirdo with affirmation needs. Will never come back and unless you love to wait, I would not recommend you go. read more

Terrible course management .they do not allow twosomes so you are paired with strangers Not good during times like these second ,before you can even tee off there are groups waiting on you while you wait for the group ahead of you never once did I see a ranger making sure people were moving at pace And this was 750 am on a Wednesday morning !! Staff was rude !! I guess all they care about is making money witch I get BUT you can't make money if people won't come back and I will not be going back I don't care if it was free ...took 6 hours to play ...get it together sanctuary your not AUGUSTA. The course was in excellent condition. The price was $30 for a cart (twilight rate). It was challenging and beautiful. We brought some beers (thank you for the tip). I have played a number of public courses around the Detroit area. This was one of the best. Enjoy. read more

That a bad course, a little pricey but worth it. Pro shop staff very friendly which is just as important as the quality of this golf course.

Good course maintained pretty well. Golfing on weekends will reward enjoyable times. If you try to golf after work during week days you are in for a horror show. They over book after leagues and only charge a twilight rate that will basically only give you 10 holes at best if you don't jump around. Rangers completely absent except off the first tee. Cops showed up to arrest a guy who seemed to be over served. Range facilities and clubhouse staff helpful. If they enforced more ranger activity to keep play moving and fix the weekday twilight rate, rating would increase. read more

My favorite course I metro Detroit. It's built on an old garbage dump with lots of elevation and slope. It's a great links style track.

Not the kind of course you would expect in this area. It blends opens areas, with woods then marsh. You feel like you have played three courses instead of one. Greens can be tricky and some holes require some thought before you hit. Its a thinking mans course a nice blend. Enjoy!! And yes it is nice to have the first hole elevated as no matter how bad you hit it that ball it is going to fly!!! One negative - practice greens do not have holes - some lazy person made the decision it was easier to have a stick in the ground instead of a hole. And the second practice green/ chipping green that is hidden has been allowed to go to seed. Does Troy Management know the current managment is allowing certain aspects of the course to become neglected? read more

My wife and I played there June 11,2018 we had atee time of 11 and were able to start at 10:30.The fairways were great,the sand traps were weed free and well maintained.The greens were fast and some of them were airiated and it made it a little difficult.The pace of play was very good even though we had a foursome ahead of us that was a little slow but they did give us the oppurtunity to pass them but we were in no hurry and stayed where we were at.The workers were very helpful and the beer cart came asround enough to satisfy anyone.I would defenitley play there again.I also loved the raised tee boxes on some holes. read more

Played yesterday 8/11/16. Greens were horrible, there was no drinking water on the course,and no refreshment cart until the 15th hole. Since the temperature was in the 90's with a temperature index over 100 all day I guess they felt there was no reason to provide anything to drink. My last visit. Troy should be ashamed of the way people are treated and the condition of the greens. read more

On 8-30-2015,an older gentlemen who is supposed to clean the carts yelled at my girlfriend and I because we had to come to the clubhouse and use the restroom after hole 6. The play was not slowed down, the people behind us played through with no one behind them. The cart guy was very rude and just wanted to argue. People who pay money to play the course should not be treated this way. Ladies, if you have to use the restroom, watch out for the mean, rude old cart guy!!!!! read more

even though sylvan glen doesn't have a driving range i would rather go to sylvan glen than here... like the other poster said overpriced is the first thing comes to mind they just re did their driving range which i though would be better....WRONG!!! only the mats are nice and the grass tees are amazingly crappy. REALLY sandy and it just messes up my clubs so i HAVE to hit off the mats if i don't want to ruin my clubs (i hit mizuno mp59s and they are super soft metals) staff...wow maybe it's the troy courses thing that's now managed by billy casper management but they are REALLY rude in all aspects even the bar. my favorite course is boulder pointe in oxford and i'll drive the extra 45 mins to get there and pay alittle more than play here. i will go to hit some balls from the range because i live pretty much 1/2 mile from there but unless there's an outing with my league i won't be going. there are plenty of nice courses in the area that are cheaper and much nicer read more
