Don't go here. I'm never one to write reviews or complain but downloaded this app specifically for this. Was golfing with my boyfriend and was stopped by an employee on the second hole saying we're going to slow because there's a group of 5 3 groups behind us, then he proceeds to says "she's not very good" you need to scramble and have her play from your balls. Keep in mind, we can't go any faster because we are right behind the people in front of us who are WALKING. I'm also hitting the ball further than both the people in front of us were hitting it but i'm the one who was told to hurry up. We've golfed together at multiple other places that are a LOT nicer and have never had a complaint. Never going here again. read more

The staff members in the carts are extremely disrespectful and sexistTook my girlfriend and a few of my buddies to go golfing yesterday. My girlfriend was the only female on the course and she was doing better than all of my group members but yet this man in the cart would yell at us that we were going to slow and he was trying to teach her how to play. We were queued up behind a bunch of people but yet he was still yelling at us that we were holding everyone up. If you are a female, DO NOT COME HERE. I cannot stress how horrible this place was and i want everyone to stay away from this rude, pompous place. read more

A group of 6 of us (all 21) kept getting talked to by the workers of the course. They kept harassing us from the moment we got there-the moment we left. They kept saying we are under age and would not leave us alone. They kept coming up to us while we were golfing telling us to pick up the pace mean while there are other groups ahead of us and we had to wait. We will never attend this course again. The sign should say "55+ welcomed" shouldn't even be a one star. Wanted to give a zero. This place isn't that nice to be acting like that. read more

Played the course summer 2021. Course was fine for the money. But was playing in a 2some and playing well and fast; yet we had a ranger follow us for half the round telling us to speed up. Played it yesterday and the course was in terrific shape, although with all the rain it is easy to keep it green--fairways and greens were in great shape--a forgiving course, but heck, ya still gotta hit the shot--was only 15 bux to walk, so good bargain--i will play here again. read more

This course was in terrible shape. My daughter was charged $21 for 9 holes with a riding cart. She is a junior (12 years old). The starter said that this was the "twilight rate". This course is simply not worth the price. Burnt out fairways. Weeds everywhere. Sand in the bunkers was really dirt. read more

Royal Oak Golf Course - Golf Near Me - Royal Oak, Michigan

I only play here so I can golf with my dad. The course is essentially a grass field now, with weeds, dead areas, and unmanicured fairways. I don't know what's happened to this joint the last 10 years, but it's in horrible condition. Time for Royal Oak to find a new manager for this place before they decide to dump it and put up condos. --Update 5/18/2013 I didn't think it could get worse, but it has. Today was the last straw. Weeds and dandelions in the rough plus grass grown to 4" made it IMPOSSIBLE to find a ball in the rough. That turned into a 9 of almost 3 hours. This is on a 3000 yard 9-hole course with 2 small ponds and is dead flat. I'm all for bulldozing this joint down. --Summer 2014 Update I've changed my review. They hired a new green's keeper at the end of 2013, and I tried the course again. He really has made a nice turnaround to the condition of the course and has set it up to be much more playable for a muni. 1) No more weeds run rampant! There are still a few dead spots in the fairways, but this will probably take more than half a season to recover 2) No more ridiculous rough lengths! You can actually find your ball when it's a foot into the rough. 3) Fairways are actually cut! For whatever reason, on #2 they would just "end" the fairway cutting around the 120 yard mark, up to about 40 yards short of the green. Insane. The new guys are now cutting this down and making it fairway, as they should. I didn't think you could turn around a course in this amount of time, but nice job. read more

This is a RACIST golf course!! As I was trying to pay for my tee time the customer in front of me was trying to be serviced but the associate rudely refused to answer a simple question. The customer asked for the manager and when the manager came up he also had an attitude and said multiple racial slurs. The the customers behind me began joining in the slurs. The customer and I both left appalled by the service of the associate, manager and customers. While we were exiting the associate, manager and customers began to follow us to our cars while continuing to yell racial slurs. The word nigger was thrown around multiple times by the associate, manager and customers. Later in the day I spoke with the director of golf and he defended the actions of his employees. I will never golf with them again and I encourage you to do the same. read more

Crash Engineer here. Was looking to play a quick peaceful round of 9 holes at this course - this was not the case. The plan was to play a round with 4 good friends that I have not seen in while. We called ahead to secure a tee time for a 5 man group (2 & 3 Man Teams) - this went smooth as the club manager Joseph A. Spatafore agreed to the booking and we went ahead and paid for the round a week in advance. Teeing off was great and everything went swimmingly until the 5th hole. We kept our group of 2 ahead of our group of 3 - everything was going great in terms of not bugging or holding up anyone else on the course. This is where the cart jockey (Ted) pulled up and harassed our group for the remainder of our round. According to Ted, Joseph A. Spatafore (Manager) would have never allowed our group as it was an odd number - this was obviously a lie. Ted followed us from the 5th tee box, to the 6th tee box, and then to the 7th. How can one hit a good ball when Ted is breathing down our necks?! On the 7th Tee, Ted proceeded to tell us to get off the course because there was 5 in our group (Separated by 2& 3 man Teams). So we told them to have the manager come down to talk to us. Joseph comes down to yell at us because we were "holding up the course" when In fact, there was nobody behind us. So I ask him, " Joseph, who are we holding up when there's nobody behind us?" He responded grudgingly with, "you're not holding up nobody". After that discussion, he threatened us with police intervention even after he agreed that we weren't causing trouble or holding up anybody. From that point, he made us separate our 2& 3 men groups to two groups of 2 and one group of 1. Not only did they harass us for half of the course, they also threatened police force while also creating a scenario where they caused a backup of golfers. Oh and one last thing - Ted the cart Jockey said it himself that he really likes to hound the golfers at this course. This was absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at a golf course, period. DO NOT GO HERE - the staff is rude and is very backhanded in what they say. Save yourself the stress and spend your money elsewhere. read more

Don't waste your money. Even with a coupon, this course is a nightmare. Coming into Memorial Day weekend, there is no excuse for the poor condition. Trying to tee up the ball? Good luck having a tee higher than the grass on the box. Trying to find your ball one inch off the fairway, give yourself ample time because the rough absolutely buries anything that touches it. Greens are inconsistently cut to top it off. Convenient location, so the tee times are stacked to the max and you'll be waiting at every single shot. If you're a true beginner, this may be the course for you due to the shorter than average yardage. Other than that, look elsewhere. read more

Played here today for the first time in years. Terrible condition, like playing in a swamp. Course has no drainage and shouldn't be open for play yet. City should have sold this course to developers and kept Normandy Golf course open! read more

The course is a dump but that's not why is one star... I'm not a good enough golfer to care about the quality of the course. It's a one star based on the older man that works there and his rude and abrasive attitude. They have a bar there that doesn't sell beer until noon which is not a state law and hasn't been for about five years... It's open but when I asked for a sandwich he said I don't make sandwiches, you have to wait until the girl comes in at noon but if you want water and skittles I can help you out read more

Some of the most rude and ornery people work here. Especially the guy behind the counter... And don't ever buy a gift certificate unless you plan on using it that season. Apparently they don't play by state laws that mandate gift certificates can't expire within five years of issue. There are better maintained golf courses in the area with much friendlier staffs. read more

I went with a group of people from work. We were basically harassed the entire time on the golf course. First to move faster (by no means were we taking our time. Everyone quickly golfed their turn and we'd move onto the next hole.) and then for our carts. We had PAID for an appropriate amount of carts for the people we had golfing. We were literally tracked down while at the 8th hole and told we needed to return carts because "we were causing a shortage". When i pulled back to the club house, the man literally started removing my items from the cart before i had a chance to and then openly talked inappropriately about our group, in front of us, to his coworker. The two men that we kept having these encounters with were very rude and acted as if paying customers were an inconvenience. Mind you, we had a decent sized group of fairly successful people that could have been repeat customers. I would never give my service to this golf course. It's already nothing special, but the cherry on top were the extremely rude and awkward encounters with the employees. I'd recommend spending your money at a course that values their customers. read more

I am an avid golfer and just played Royal Oak Golf Club on 13 mile and the second RO course, Normandy Oaks. Wow what an improvement from a couple of years ago! These courses have been in poor condition for a long time but are now on the way back big time. Found out they have a new greens keeper that came from a private country club after 30 years there. He started last year. The greens, tees and fairways at both courses are in very good condition. All new sand in the bunkers - no more dirt bunkers. What a difference one year makes (and a new greens keeper!). I will definitely be playing these two course more often. If you played these courses when they were basic 'Cow Pastures" a few years ago you won't believe the difference!! I also saw an active and well attended junior program going on at Normandy this past Tuesday. Had to be 40+ kids receiving instructions and playing a mini version of the course (junior tee boxes were in place making the holes much shorter) Nice to see...... read more

Don't waste your money on this dump. Apparently the word has gotten out as we had no trouble calling at 10:00 am and getting a tee time for noon on a beautiful Saturday. Nobody else teed off behind us until we were on hole 8. Rough is bad, fairways are bad. Netting is just in shreds. This place needs to triple it's maintenance budget. It's a shame too, used be a fun quick course in excellent shape. Now it's just depressing read more

Pretty good course, didn't find it to be that hard, and shot a reasonable score. The staff here was pretty friendly, and they were open later than the nearby Normandy Oaks course. The only negative I had was the price, which was like 28 dollars for 9 holes with a cart. read more

Pros: Large and excellent greens... a challenging track... a value if you go the Groupon route. Cons: Surly staff and rangers (old farts with nothing better to do, I guess)... pricey without a Groupon or Group Golfer cert. A nice course for high handicappers yet a good challenge for those of us who have been playing awhile. The greens are huge and in excellent shape since the spring of 2015 has been so wet. Birdied #6 -- a 516-yard dogleg left par 5 with four excellent shots including a 250-yard drive right down the middle. The "beer Nazi" ranger was quite annoying however and the guy in the clubhouse looks like he hasn't smiled since the 50's. Even the young girl in the snack bar looked disinterested and bored -- but maybe her phone died. read more

Horrible. Not a bad municipal layout. Short but some trees and dog legs. But the condition last week was beyond awful. The greens were passable but the tees and fairways were basically dead and burnt. I stopped in for a lark to play rather than practice. The condition was so bad that finding a patch of green grass was impossible. I'm sure it is budget the Birmingham courses are fine and green. Worth five or ten bucks to be out but not more. Clubhouse is full of attitude. GF called to make a tee time and was met with sighs and unpleasantness. If you dont like your job dont take it out on your customers. Poor poor customer service. It amazes me that someone thinks its acceptable to talk to people that way, let alone customers. read more
