After recently moving back home to Tucson from out of State, we decided to enroll our daughter here to finish out the school year and we are so glad we did. We were greeted with such warmth and kindness by the staff, especially Mrs. Lori and the principal. Mrs. Lori has been working at Vesey since I attended! My daughters teacher Mrs. Nissell is amazing and goes above and beyond for the kids and really cares about her students. Can't say enough!

Every week my son comes home from school with a story about 2 students that keep disrespecting…read moreother children, one of the children punches, calls other student racial slurs, homophobic remarks, and weight shames other students. He tells these stories to teachers, sometimes these scenes happen in front of teachers and staff, but they don't do anything to stop the other child. He's told administration, and staff about these stories but they don't do much. But this just in middle school, This only started when he entered 6th grade.

However this may be his last…read moretear at this school and here is why: ADS is participating in the AZ Merit testing metric system and they are failing at it drastically and it is not at the fault of the teachers but the testing is extremely difficult to pass. When a teacher says that your child got a D on the exam and this was one of the highest grades then something is wrong! I am involved in my son's school and went and spoke with each teacher and there was a consensus is that all the students are failing- how can the school continue to allow their students to FAIL! I am an extremely concerned parent that feels that this school is allowing our children to fail and this could drastically effect their future! The school grounds are nice and the uniform is extremely formal with blazer and tie. However again the fall at organizing the physical education class around this. In the summer months when it was 100°+ outside they had pants and a long sleeve collar shirt they participated in. Then there was an incident that occurred at the school that involved the sheriff's presence that parents we're given very little information about. And the most recent situation that occurred was a fire /gas scent incident that forced an evacuation of the school. Which I'm glad they did and they informed the parents via email. What they failed to mention is that this evacuation occurred and our children were outside in the rain! They failed to let us know that our children were soak and wet in December on one of the coldest days! The only way parents knew was if the child chose to call to get clothes brought to them. The only reason I gave 2 stars and not 1 is because I love the teachers! But they need to get organized and quick or we will be looking for another school.

They go above and beyond to make sure every child feels supported--whether it's helping with uniform clothing or simply offering encouragement when it's needed most. Mrs. Shirley, Ms. Gaby and Ms. Vega have been especially wonderful. Their big hearts and positive energy make such a difference every day. My daughters love coming to school, and that means everything to me as a parent. The entire team works together to create a safe, welcoming environment where the kids can learn and thrive. We truly feel blessed to have been part of this school community. Highly recommend to any family looking for a school that really cares.

During the school year, students are assigned approximately one hour of homework each night, along…read morewith weekly homework packets. At the beginning of the school year, my grandmother passed away, and during that horrible time I asked for support to help keep my son on track with his assignments. I was told to rely on his communication notebook, but felt that wasn't enough given the circumstances. Near the end of the final trimester, I was informed that my son was at risk of failing math. I was frustrated because this was the first time I had been made aware that he was struggling. I was told there had not been any concerns before then and that he should begin attending student hours. Earlier communication (in addition to seeing some poor grades in cj which only suggested that we implement new study habits) would have allowed us to address the issue before it became so serious. Parent teacher conferences were unhelpful. Unfortunately, attending student hours was also challenging. If a student arrives even a FEW minutes late, they are not permitted to join because it would "disrupt" the ongoing session. The morning drop-off procedures can be difficult to navigate, as the gates are opened on a very strict schedule. On one occasion, I had to park and walk my son into school before 7:30 a.m., and by the time we reached student hours we were only a couple of minutes late. He was not allowed to attend. Ironically, had it been 7:31 a.m., I could have used the drive-through drop-off instead but would have been late to student hours. There were also several school policies that made the experience more difficult for our family. Students were not allowed to play tag on the playground, school lunches were not provided, and the after-school program was very costly even with scholarship.

The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints: 1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently 2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise) None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. This school is known to discriminate against students, especially their special education students and families. The staff is poorly trained and they're constantly trying to replace teachers who either quit or get fired. Their test scores are abysmal and sadly, they don't prioritize students. It's a negative, mean and cruel environment for kids to spend years in. Avoid at all costs.
