After taking a stroll we decided to pop in here for dinner…read more We were pleasantly approached by a waiter wearing a visor who asked if we wanted to be seated indoors or out. The venue itself was very open and spacious with several depictions of Leonardo D'vinci art from the Vatican on the ceiling and walls. The outside area beheld a lovely forest scenery but it was too windy despite the warm sun so we retreated back inside. I will be honest, the prices were a bit steeper than I expected. Starters from £7 upwards and mains from £12 to £30 or more. The selection was diverse though, (see photo). It did take a while to get a drink because they were a little busy being Saturday but they were all pleasant. I ordered a glass of pinot grigio along with a spicy pork sausage in red wine sauce and a Ciro linguine which included monkfish, scallops, King prawns, squid and mussels in a tomato sauce. My other half had the mozzarella in parmaham followed by paridiso linguine containing crab meat and King prawns in a garlic lemon creamy sauce. The sausage was really tasty and came with some fresh flat bread to dunk into the rich sauce . On receiving my main I was offered a sprinkling of parmesan cheese which complimented the dish. There was only a couple pieces of monkfish and scallops but lots of prawns and squid. It all tasted fresh and plesant but preferred the richer sauce the sausage had been floating in. My partners starter was really good although a little stingey with the parmaham. His main was also good with strong tasting crab. To finish we both enjoyed a coffee, mine being a liqueur one of course. Overall we enjoyed the experience, its a nice venue but because Italian food has such simple ingredients I find it quite easy to find someone who does it better. I did find it a little over priced for some dishes and could have placed more certain ingredients on the plate. I have simply just had better for less. Would I come back? Yes I would come back with a member of my family for a special occasion perhaps?

My boyfriend first took me to Sul Lago's for my birthday as a treat, he said it was the best…read moreItalian he'd ever been to and I wasn't disappointed, we've been about half a dozen times since. We generally have a drink at the bar while we waited to be seated and they have a few different cocktails available. You can also look at the lobsters in the tank but I always feel mean on them so I don't look at them! My favourite starter here are the scallops, I could eat them everyday! My favourite main course is the Mushroom Stroganoff which is absolutely delicious although I can't usually eat it all! The desserts are always really nice, we love the cheesecake, and we get an extra piece each to take home! Bad point: I had the King Prawn main course once and really didn't like it, I couldn't eat it and sent it back, it's strange because I love King Prawns but it must've been the way they cooked them or something. They offered me something else but I didn't really want to wait while they cooked something else so I shared my boyfriend's pizza. I was very disappointed when the bill came and they hadn't taken my main course off, which cost £17 or even knocked part of it off. We'd both had three courses each, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water and I felt that taking some off for my main course would have been a nice goodwill gesture but my boyfriend wouldn't let me question it with them. Every restaurant I have ever eaten in, if anybody has ever sent something back, then they haven't paid for it, they might have taken something off if we'd questioned it so I won't hold this against them really. Sul Lago is just through Daisy Nook if you're coming from Ashton, you need a car or taxi to get there, I wouldn't recommend walking through there at night! Overall it is a gorgeous restaurant and I can't wait until we go again.

Not having quoted from TA before, but as of today (25/01/15) they are ranking 6th and the 5 above them do not include Italian restaurants, so therefore are Manchester's top Italian restaurant. All that said upon arrival and entry you would wonder why! Then upon commencement of your courses you can easily see why. We had the special for £24.99 of 12 tapas dishes and a HUGE 19"pizza which we were allowed to do half once topping and half another. 4 of us ate more than confortably (inc a Coke) for only £9 each. Our tapas that we chose were chicken wings, tomato rice balls, BBQ ribs, croquettes, meatballs and bruschetta. Then the huge pizza arrived which left your draw dropping! Pros - This place sure hits the spot for taste, value, quality and friendly staff. Even Bruno himself recalled seeing us one time before, which had to be around 9 months previously! Cons - book well in advance to avoid disappointment (although a good friend of mine just before Xmas called in whilst driving passed and got the last table... Alex B way to go dude!) and don't be put off by the small bijoux tranquil surroundings! Go on give it a try! Well worth the drive, or the local tram stop called 'Velopark' (immediately after 'Etihad Campus') which is about 3 mins walk away!
