Specialties
San Juan Hand Therapy employees are Certified Hand Therapists (CHT's) and Occupational Therapists who undergo additional training including at least 5 years of experience, 4500 hours of UE and the successful passing of a certified exam. Our goal is to work collaboratively with our patients to help them regain function of their affected extremity through increased movement, strength and dexterity while decreasing pain and swelling and other effects of injuries and ageing. These goals are addressed through state of the art techniques such as soft tissue and joint mobilization, custom and prefabricated splints, ultra sound, light therapy, kinesiotaping, ergonomic and postural evaluations, and active and passive range of motion exercises and more. We are a comprehensive hand therapy practice that prides itself on providing therapy services in a timely, cost effective manner and in a caring, supportive and fun, atmosphere.
History
Established in 1996.
San Juan Hand Therapy (SJHT) began as a small occupational therapy office operating out of an office in owner Mary Oswald's house. This was a much needed step for Durango, as it was the first and only hand therapy clinic in the four corners region. As doctors began referring large amounts of patients to Mary, she hired a new therapist and a business manager. In 2005, the clinic outgrew Mary's house and she opened a new, permanent location in the Rivergate Medical Offices of Animas Surgical Hospital. Interestingly, SJHT is still the only hand therapy clinic in Durango.
