There curriculum seems great…read more As with any of these activities for kids, it really depends on the teacher. Some are great, others not so much. Like right now, I'm watching Atiery teaching a class of 9 girls. There's one girl at a time going down the tumble track and the other 8 are doing nothing. Even though the good teachers would have the kids doing something useful with their time, like practicing handstands against the wall or something. I don't know why management doesn't include that in training, but I definitely won't be wasting my money on a class taught by one of these inefficient teachers.

And the manager is an idiot who has no idea what he's doing. Liz starts out really nice and over time she reveals herself to her new employees to avoid her high turnover rate. I still have nightmares about her. Holidays are unpaid. Whenever the gym is closed you will not get paid that day. It could be closed for days at a time and you will find out with little notice. The camps are out of control and not worth the pay. The gym is dirty and the bathrooms are disgusting, myself as a teacher didn't even want to use them. Terrible location to commute to. Heavy crime in the area and sometimes the whole gym will smell like fent, no air conditioning !! even during extreme heat classes will continue and their will be nothing but the 20 year old floor fans on. Short staffed because after a while of dealing with the owner you start to hate your life. gym mats losing foam are secured with tape, mats are not cleaned, leaky roofs, foam pit hasn't been cleaned in over 10+ years. Ive overhead parents say the gym looks the exact same as the time they attended because the equipment is old !!!! keep in mind the owner owns multiple properties aside from the gyms and is a millionaire. You will have to make up for the absence of workers by subbing and combining different level classes. good luck!

Its all their fault because they fail repeatedly to deal with basic requests like updating a card on file, and repeatedly screw up on the computer system. The owner insists on not having staff and putting his personal number but he never is available and becomes irate if you "bother" him Gym is small and ill equipped. Very hot and smells bad. Never any staff there in case of problems like beings locked out. Cant get ahold of owner during normal business hours and constantly acts like he is being bothered if you report broken equipment or anything Fitness SF is better anyway. I was going to keep both but the owner of this gym doesn't reciprocate loyalty Go here if you wanna get locked out randomly and repeatedly and belittled for making perfectly reasonable complaints. Im sure he will reply here claiming i am the problem but fyi all i did was say "im sick of this" and i think anyone would be after repeatedly getting locked out despite paying $125 a month. i see people having issues with getting locked out basically every day. The owner is aware but choses to not staff his gym or switch software systems The floor uses foam tiles so when you try to wheel the benches around they become dislodged and jam and create hazards. The owner makes rash decisions like putting 100lb dumbbells on a rack not suitable for such heavy weights so they fall on your feet, he is too stubborn and gets overly defensive if you try to point out any issue, and tries to deflect (its always the members or the staffs fault, never takes responsibility or ownership)

I asked them if they made a mistake and tried to see if there was any explanation but some guy named Derrick on some ego trip kept telling me I was a thief and full of BS, which was not on my bingo card. I went over to the front desk and told them there was a naked man in the women's locker room just sitting there, watching everyone and he responded that they are legally not allowed to remove him. Please educate me because this doesn't seem right. I told them I usually let my 11 year old daughter go to the bathroom herself and I don't feel like it's safe and yet, YMCA did nothing. I was at the YMCA because my daughter had a game. After her game, I checked the women's locker room (about an hour after I took my son to the bathroom) and the naked man was still there, sitting there and putting lotion on his body. This is not okay. Please be careful everyone, especially those with children.

That's when I came across the Sunset Gym this past December. I started my membership with a week long pass and eventually converted it to a monthly membership. (The payment for the week pass went into my first month of membership) Pricing wise this place is a very reasonable compared to the bigger chains (i.e Fitness SF), but admittedly you are also restricted to one location. For me though, that's not a problem as I wanted a neighborhood gym more than anything. The gym itself is great - it's old school (think OG Gold's Gym style). Downstairs has plenty of free weights and a good selection of machines. Upstairs has a dedicated Cardio area, a spot for stretching, as well as additional free-weights and an outdoor area. Staff I've interacted with so far have been wonderful. Very glad to have found a great gym close by to where I live

Definitely a transit-first or walk-from-your-home-type gym, 9th and Irving is not known for its parking (though it IS known for it's ever-present MTA carts zipping around). Love the towels, the multiple bathrooms and showers, the fans everywhere, and the small outdoor area on the second floor.

He's had a speech delay and has had his academic struggles, so he's always had an aversion to team sports, and has even voiced that he's felt "different." We've tried to put him into other baseball and soccer when he was 4-5 years old, but he was never drawn to them. He instead preferred solo sports activities like swimming and martial arts, namely because he could progress at his own pace, without the added pressure of competition. Through a friend we met Coach Marty and it's been a blessing ever since! He has a way of easing kids into the basics of the sport, even if they've never played before and if they are shy and introverted. He's made it a fun and stress free experience and now my son LOVES the game. My son has been training with Coach Marty for about 6 months, and he went from being scared to even kick a ball with other kids around him, to running and passing the ball, shooting goals and avidly seeks to improve his game. He looks forward to every practice and cheers on his team mates. It's not just the exercise and basic soccer skills that he's taken away from this program thus far, but rather the build up of confidence, the sense of teamwork, and the enthusiasm for healthy exercise that he'll be able to use for the rest of his life. If you've got a kid that feels "different" or is shy, I'd definitely check First Step Soccer out. He or she is bound to learn more than just the game, and that's the real reward.
