We can argue about the quality of the paper itself. But as others have said, their subscription management is absolutely awful. Do yourself a favor and just walk down to the corner store. read more

I enjoyed the articles and local coverage while I was on a promotional subscription, and I have nothing against their reporting. Otherwise I would knock off all stars, because they make it nearly impossible to cancel a subscription, which just pisses me off. Even when you call them at the number with the cancellation info they bury deep in their website so it's hard to find, the system sends you through a ridiculous route until the computer generated voice tells you they can't process your request electronically and hangs up on you. There's no option to talk to a human person! Someone I know was getting multiple email notices about their online subscription expiring, so thinking they just wanted approval to renew, she agreed through the emails. She ended up with four separate subscriptions that took a long time to clear out. Their whole subscription system is designed to confuse and deceive their subscribers into paying more, which leaves people like me angry enough to complain about it publicly like this. Clean up your process , and your reputation, SFC! read more

If I could give the subscription service a negative number I would.I cancelled the promo subscription 8 days before it expired, received a confirmation saying it was cancelled and thought it was all done. Got suspicious a few weeks later when I was still receiving articles automatically. After looking at my charge bill I saw they charged me almost $16 for last month and $16 for coming one.Called, spoke to representative who said he couldn't do anything but offer me a good deal for 6 months, (what a joke) bumped it up to supervisor who said they had no record of cancellation -I offered to send the email and he said there was nothing he could do to credit me the money back as "you did not cancel ".I offered again to send the cancel confirmation and he said no. I caution anyone who ever ants to cancel their SF Chron subscription-don't start with them unless you want it for life! read more

Signed up for the $99 yearly home delivery of the SF Comicle Sunday edition. As the name Comicle implies, after the first 3 weeks, I never received a Sunday paper. Now I have canceled my subscription that never happened. Hope to hell they refund me the $99 in a timely manner, but as with their delivery quality I have serious doubts. Save yourself major headaches and either head down to your local convenience store every Sunday morning or get a subscription to another regional paper. Was this unacceptable? Beyond that. read more

Simple Sunday evening pleasure denied: No paper to read today. I went to 8 stores, coffeeshops and gas stations in Hayward and Union City: none had the Chronicle today. What's up?! read more

Bad service. Bad content. Save your money for an outfit that invests in journalism. Or they can just stop pretending they have invested in any thoughtful content and distribute the stack of ads for free. read more

How difficult could it be to hold a delivery one Sunday, then deliver that copy and the current copy the next Sunday? Apparently it is impossible for the retards at the Chromicle! read more

This is the worst Bay Area news paper! Customer service and delivery service suck! Do not waste your money.

We wish to discontinue our subscription because prices are too high for us. We subscribed just Sun.only which has gone up to over $300 a year and over $6 an issue. When you call their phone # on the bill to cancel you can't get thru. When you go to their website you can't get thru to cancel either. I suspect they're going to try to bill me because on their bill they claim I can't unsubscribe without doing the above which in good faith I did. This is America --I'm not giving in to tyranny. I'm simply not going to pay. What a poor way for them to end a relationship--use high-handed obfuscation to make it difficult to unsubscribe. Too bad they can't be less deceitful. If they persist with billing me I'll just continue to notify friends. If they stop I'll let it go. The ball's in their court. read more

Why am I auto renewed for my subscription and billed when I never agreed to this... The delivery service is horrible to a point I just consider I throw 20 bucks into the toilet and ignored the problem. There is no way to end subscription other than calling, and the hours for calling is horribly early for late people like me. And guess what, I got my bill after it is due. I am not paying this crap. read more

After a couple of years of perfectly satisfactory Sunday delivery, things started going seriously downhill last summer: no delivery; delivery to the wrong house; delivery of the wrong paper. I would guess a new and dumber person is now working our route. At least ten calls to the Chron's call center (in Manila!) have produced apologies and promises of a subscription extension, but have done nothing to improve delivery. We won't be renewing; it's less hassle, and now no more expensive, just to pick up a copy at the gas station. read more

I recently subscribed to the San Francisco Chronicle for Sunday deliveries over 3 weeks ago. I have not received a single Sunday newspaper delivery. I contacted their customer service about this issue over a week ago and they said they would promptly address the issue, but I still have not received a single newspaper delivery. I am hoping to cancel with them so that we don't waste each other's time any longer. read more

I cancelled my subscription toddy because of horrendous delivery service. I overall like the Chron and will buy it at my local store but no more delivery. Before the first of this year delivery was very good, arriving between five and five thirty every day. Then the paper took over the delivery themselves instead of using independent contractors and the paper either wouldn't get delivered or be delivered at nine thirty or 10. Completely unacceptable. In reading reviews it seems this delivery problem is an internal epidemic. A business needs to delver what it promises. If it doesn't it fails. read more

Boy ... you have to be kidding me this guys are a little rip off. They advertised my small business for 6 month on a seo deal, with a promise that I would be seen more customers, it was the total opposite it got worse. So I talked to them about it and all they have to say. !Well you need to invest more money! I said, ok .. If my site was getting more traffic when I did my own seo. now you telling me that I have to invest more money? It didn't make any sense since At all. I said, aren't you guys suppose to be seo professionals and I was to suppose to get more customers on top of the ones I already had? Stay away from them no good people. read more

Horrible customer service, haven't had paper delivered in three days. Emails to Chronicle each day seem to do no good, this paper sucks, I'm going back to the Merc. To bad they don't have a zero rating, hence the one star rating. read more

Company gained my info because I (a small girl) was cornered by a large salesman alone at my apt complex until I signed up for a subscription. Promptly canceled my credit card. Since then over the last two months I have been repeatedly harassed by their vendors with phone calls at all hours and days. This morning alone I received eight phone calls while at work for resubscription despite repeatedly stating that I do NOT want to be contacted. This is harassment and your "newspaper" is trash. read more

Do not waste your money buying a delivery subscription. They cannot get the newspaper delivered with any efficiency. It is expensive and clearly not worth the money. You either get no paper or 3 copies in one day. I have to send an email about 5 times/week. They seem incapable of getting the paper delivered properly. Save your money; buy one at the store or machine instead. read more

I have been a loyal subscriber to the chronicle for 45 years. I was recently out of town and placed a vacation hold on the chronicle, with deliveries to resume April.26. Since that time, I have not received one issue of the chronicle, despite almost daily calls to the chronicle voicing my concerns. I even called the supervisor requesting an explanation, but my calls have not been returned. I am amazed by the ineptitude of the chronicle and their pathetic customer service. How can this possibly exist in San Francisco in 2018? Shame on the chronicle! Incidentally, I recently paid for three months delivery (with tip) in mid April read more

I have been a subscriber to the SF Chron for the past twenty + years. Vacation hold still works but YOUR SUBSCRIPTION IS NO LONGER EXTENDED for the time you are away. This is a completely new policy, yet another desperate move from an ever shrinking newspaper. Very sad really. As a person who was born and raised in the City I want to remain loyal to the paper, but there's only so much disrespect a loyal subscriber can take. If this policy is not changed before my next vacation I will have to cancel my subscription. By the way, the MERC is not what it once was, no matter what Anthony L. says. I know people who work for the paper and they are miserable. read more

I have had the Chron delivered to my address over 40 yrs, the last month I have not received any papers, called , they always apologize and say they will credit my subscription. I want the paper, which by the way is very expensive. Like the other reviews said, my delivery person must have changed and was not replaced. Horrible customer service read more

Abusive business that refuses to stop calling and harassing me, even on weekends. I have requested multiple times to not be contacted but they don't care. I've never received a newspaper from them, never signed up, and have no use for one. Not sure how this still goes on but I've added them to my blocked callers list. read more

This is an update of my 2011 review. The Chron continued to deliver my paper after my subscription expired (logging in to the subscriber services website will not enable you to find out when your subscription expires) and has now billed me 70 dollars. I will miss this paper, but their treatment of subscribers is truly disrespectful. read more
