I came in as a first time visitor, and was provided with a complete tour of the library. From the available events space, bookstore, computer lab, to the books. I stayed for about two hours completing work, before heading to the back deck where I watched people enjoying their time in the park with birds singing. I will certainly be a regular here moving forward.

I reached my campsite and decided to read up on the library. The reviews were great so I decided to go the next day. Since I was visiting in the area I asked the librarian if they had any info what to do in town. She was very helpful and friendly. After pointing me in the direction to look for things to do in town. I sat and looked around the library and was admiring the architecture. It was a gloomy, windy and very wet day. But, being inside the library I didn't get that feeling. It was bright and open and with floor to ceiling glass windows it brought the outside beauty indoors. They had individual work rooms, meeting rooms, teens and youths areas. I decided to walk around and view the outdoors from the youth section. There the floor to ceiling windows opened up an entire room you can only look at from your chair. With the storm hovering above you could see Mother Nature in the works. What a grand room! So also in this area they had set up on the tables easels with canvas and paint supplies. I found out from the librarian that they sometime offer different art projects for anyone to do at no charge! So after my town adventures in the rain I returned to do a little painting of my own. In the two hours that I was there painting I also enjoyed the sound of the heavy rain tapping on the rooftop and windows. Watching the plants blowing in the wind and the dark clouds pass by. The library has a security guard just inside the front door. The entrance lobby is open and bright. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely return to the library if I'm in town. You should see for yourself what they have to offer.

This is also a spot for emergency preparation from sdg&e when the lights go out . You can get water and change your cell phones. Feed San Diego uses there parking lot every other Wednesday to give out food. You can find good books here if not ask they will find them for you. Yes I recommend visiting them

Parking is a disaster, spots are small and limited to 9. If you drive a larger car I recommend parking across the street where you will find plenty of parking. In the afternoon after school is out, you will find lots of kids hanging out. It gets a little loud and staff nor security say anything to shut em off. The library is great addition to the neighborhood that is often neglected by the city.

There is consistently either a disability group or middle school students that run around talking loudly with zero consideration for the people around them. It's disruptive, disrespectful, and completely defeats the purpose of a library. I understand that public spaces are for everyone, but that doesn't mean basic courtesy should go out the window. A library is supposed to be a place for reading and studying not a place for ongoing loud conversations. If people want to socialize, there are plenty of other places to do that. The library seriously needs to step up and enforce noise levels or create strictly enforced quiet zones or hours.

Was surprised at how quick and easy the process turned out to be. Just need a photo ID and proof of address so if you have a California ID that's good enough! The Central Library has easily become one of my favorite libraries to visit. I don't get down here…read moreoften since I don't live nearby, but every time I do, I make a beeline for the ninth floor. It's an incredible space dedicated to genealogy and history, making it the perfect place to dive into family research. This visit was especially meaningful because I brought family members who were visiting from out of town. As we prepare for an upcoming family reunion while also grieving the recent loss of a loved one, we were able to uncover photographs of family members we had never seen before. It was an emotional and unforgettable experience that made our visit truly special. One of the best features is that the library offers free access to genealogy resources like Ancestry Library Edition and other historical databases that have helped me piece together my family's story. I also recently learned that every Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteer genealogy specialists are available to help the public--for free! I'll definitely be returning during those hours because researching family history often feels like peeling back the layers of an onion. Every discovery leads to another story waiting to be told. The only downside is the parking. The library offers two hours of free covered parking, which sounds generous until you get immersed in research. Time flies when you're digging through historical records, and two hours disappears quickly. If possible, I'd recommend taking the trolley to avoid having to move your car or pay expensive parking fees--especially considering the library is just a short walk from Petco Park. You can also opt to take your car out every 2 hours ans re-park in the garage.... Ijs One thing to keep in mind is that on Padres game days, the library parking garage may close early to accommodate game-day parking. While I understand why they do it, it can be frustrating if you're planning a long research session. Overall, I highly recommend this library. Whether you're researching your family tree, looking for a peaceful place to study, or simply wanting a quiet escape from the city, the ninth floor is an absolute treasure. It's one of San Diego's best-kept secrets, and if you haven't experienced it yet, you're missing out. As always... you can thank me later.
