Their AIM program is brilliant as is there Choice program. We have experienced both and the TLC staff and their support is 100% and their attitude is 100% positive and child oriented. There are no politics at TLC. There is just a truly caring atmosphere and it is fully geared to each child. I've loved working with the staff, from Giulia at the front desk, to Ms. Katie - the Director for Scripps Ranch, to academic and behavioral staff, and of course, to our wonderful teacher, Ms. G.!!! Not only is my oldest comprehending chinese and learning to read and write (half of the day is in chinese!) but she actually enjoys learning it. My kids loved the school, its teachers, and the three different principals that were present during their years there. My kids have an incredible knowledge of the Mandarin language and of Asian culture. We have visited China three times. Interacting with locals has been a positive and joyous experience. We plan to continue with the Mandarin immersion program through high school. But there is so much more to Barnard than just Mandarin. The school offers an excellent, well-rounded ELA, math, and science curriculum. Their extra language skills only enhanced their engagement and absorption of other topics. The PTA offers a ton of wonderful extracurricular activities. My kids learned so much, made great friends with diverse families from throughout San Diego county, and collected terrific childhood memories of the many great times at Barnard. Highly recommended!

I went on a tour of this school based on the fact that the website (at least at the time of this…read moretour) said it was for kids on all areas of the spectrum. But it's really not, and I felt it was a waste of my time that the website is rather misleading in this one respect. If you are wealthy and can pay for a private education, sure, then they will take your moderately impacted child, but otherwise, this school is for severely impacted kids. That said, I was very impressed with what I saw there. If my child were severely impacted by autism, I would not hesitate to enroll her in this school, and then, it would be covered by the school district. Just be sure, if you're interested in this school, to get a clear idea of how it works and if your child is in the area of their expertise before you spend your and their valuable time on a tour.

They genuinely care about the children. The school is open for observation. They have a two way window in each room so the children don't get distracted if you go observe. Communication is efficient. Administration (Sara, Maria, Vivian, Sharon, Salina): they work as a team, they keep you informed, they know every single child, they are caring, thoughtful, just very very nice in general. This will be our 3rd year in the school and hoping for many more!
