We stopped by on a weekday afternoon. The sushi rolls tasted fresh and had great flavor, but they tended to fall apart as soon as we picked them up, which made eating them a bit annoying. I was visiting a friend who lives near Apple Valley and happened to stop by this sushi spot on the way home--and what a great find! The interior was super cozy and had a strong local vibe, like a place with lots of regulars. I thought we'd have to wait a while since it was a busy time, but the food came out surprisingly fas! Everything was fresh--from the sashimi to the variety of rolls and even the tempura. My favorites are Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, yellowtail appetizer and crab tempura. The chef also recommended Echigo Koshihikari Beer, a light Japanese beer that was super easy to drink and paired really well with the meal. I'd definitely love to come back if I get the chance. I come from Koreatown where sushi is plentiful and competition is fierce. I recently moved to the high desert and I'm trying new places. I love seafood and sushi with raw fish in specifically. I've gone to several restaurants now and they were either lacking flavor or just overall bad quality. I'd say this place is more expensive than any other seafood joint I've tried out here in the desert. We ordered take out. We ordered 3 specialty rolls and two kids meals. Kids meals included teriyaki chicken, rice, California roll, miso soup and veggies for $9.50. I can't really remember the names of the rolls we ordered. A lot of sauces and sides are extra charge. I'd say each roll was about $17 to $20 but they do offer daily specials so check it out.I tried a little bit of everything and it was all very delicious. It definitely exceeded my expectations and I can now understand the difference in price range. If you like bland food, this is not the place for you. Every dish had it's own unique flavor. We ordered take out and they still put effort into the presentation. I can only imagine what it must look like in a dish. I hope to be able to dine in soon but I'm definitely pleased and will be returning. read more

This place has been one of my favorite spots for a while. I was very excited to have a nice dinner with my family. Decided to come here even though we had a bad experience last time we wanted to give it an another try. When we came, we were greeted right away and ask to seat. Another party came right after and were seated and provided menus right away. We were given our menus time after them. We wrote down our order and wait a while and never were ask about drinks or anything. We noticed there was only one waitress handling the floor which I understand why the service was slow, the part I don't understand is that even though there was a few tables to be help, phone orders and to go orders were been help first. There was food sitting on the window food a none of the three chefs working the line offered to help her at all. We ask them if we can handed our order since she was busy and they denied, ask to wait. Food continued sitting on the bar and the 3 chefs on the line just standing and looking at it. Honestly this place is an absolute no for us. The sushi did not taste fresh, the crumbs on top of the sushi roll tasted stale and the taste was very bland. The rolls were not rolled tight so either half my roll was landing on the table or it all crumbled on that same plate. We also got the teriyaki chicken just to play it safe and the chicken was beyond dry and hard to chew. The waitresses were nice but I had to call someone over about 5 times by the third time I was embarrassed to call her again for simply napkins. One of the workers started mopping as there were still two more families besides ourselves, it would've been ok if one family wasn't getting ready to walk out. Came in by myself today and ordered a Yellowtail belly nigiri as well as a Disco shrimp. The server was very attentive throughout my meal and to my surprise they brought out a complimentary daikon salad with deep fried shishito peppers. The salad was both delicious and refreshing. The first dish that came out was the yellowtail nigiri garnished with rosemary. The yellowtail was fresh and the marbling was great. The nigiri rice was done well with its subtle sweetness. Finally the disco shrimp came out with a slightly charred lemon. It's a baked roll which tasted pretty great but the amount of sauce can be overwhelming. As I paid for my meal they offered a complimentary dessert which I couldn't refuse. Dessert was sliced apples and whipped cream on a layer of peanut butter. As apples were in season it was a very crisp and delicious dessert. For $25 dollars I got a great deal of 4 tasty and aesthetic dishes. There aren't many restaurants offering this kind of service so I would have to give this restaurant high praise. Definitely prefer SS 2 over SS off 7th (unsure if they're affiliated or not, but here goes my review. Every time I visit my parents who live in the area, my mom always recommends this place (whether dine-in or to-go). We usually get the large platter combination that come with an assortment of nigiri and spicy tuna rolls (forget the name, but it's the combination that feeds 3) and one/two additional rolls. We leave the restaurant STUFFED and happy. SS 2 delivers fresh fish, but definite hit or miss service. For a small restaurant with 3 or more servers, it can be run more efficiently (e.g. having servers be assigned a service zone vs. running all over the place, switching between serving/prepping to-go orders/getting the check, etc.) Unfortunately for hangry diners, it becomes a bit frustrating when we see the servers are a bit out of order and all over the place. Just our observation, having dined here so many times. read more

Service is terrible. Let me start off by saying the food is good here at this place but the service is awful. My wife and I wanted to pick up some sushi to go and eat at home to enjoy our anniversary. After they told us it would be a 45 mins wait we said that's fine no problem. We showed up and there was no order placed we verified when calling in that we were calling in to the Hesperia location. Instead of being told sorry we will fix it and get on it we were told we lost your order if you like we can put in the order now and it will be another 45 min wait time. I said no thank you they didn't offer anything. We then left I called back to verify one more time that this was the right location and they verified it was and the girl just laughed on the phone and hung up. I would think if you are charging about $20 a roll and I order 4 rolls to go that's not a bad order for the business owner of this location to bill $80 in what maybe takes 10 mins to prep at most. It sucks that I have to write this review but just be courteous and try to offer a solution that doesn't require the business to loose a good paying customer. Although I don't think anything will come of this review. If you place a phone order just remind them 5 times on the phone to place your order the last thing you want is your family waiting 45 mins to be told we lost your order would you like us to put it in now. read more
