If you lose something prepare to go through the most ridiculous process imaginable no one would help us in returning a lost item saying we had to fill a form out (which I already did) and now have to wait for whenever they decide to do the paperwork (which they wouldn't have had to do if they just returned the item) it's been days and still no email response. I wish I could give a zero star review. I personally believe SamTrans is responsible for being the biggest attributor to tardee/absences in the Peninsula area. They are constantly changing their route schedules, if you DON'T check their website daily you are LIKELY to miss the updates. The buses are constantly un-timely, and tend to get later and later. I'm not sure if this is because of employee drivers' burnout or changes in the route drivers, but you can almost always rely on buses being a couple minutes late. The one time you show up late the bus is on time, don't ask how, it's just how it is. *If it rains: DO NOT BOTHER WITH SAMTRANS buses, you will end up soaked and/or late/absent. read more

Review for Clean This Up Stop # 334012 First clean this trash and sanitize the seating area. And I still won't see yet the psychological belief that it is clean would help. Sheesh. Does the city ever patrol this area all of these hotels one mile near the airport someone to clean this up. What do the hotel taxes pay for? And all of that being said... Bus Route 292 has been reliable and on-time as scheduled. Inside the buses are very clean. Driver's customer service range from zilch to exceptional. Heck even one bus driver refused to put on the headlights kept turning them on and off throughout the ride. Until I yelled at the bus driver that were noticing the shenanigans. Not sure what this was about and very concerning. On another note a driver would get off the bus to help the elderly with luggage, check on riders that appeared to be sleeping or not alert, engage in conversation and the actual first duty that seems to be forgotten, he knew his route and would answer questions to avoid non-San Franciscians getting lost. I did not always have the correct change so I paid what was in my pocket and I didn't receive any grief. Also noted are the bus stops are hard to detect it might be a stop painted on a pole, it could be a sign behind a tree or even a sign behind a satellite pad. Be aware of the stops and make sure you wave down the driver as more than one bus is sometimes on the same route. I traveled this route to and from the airport area to downtown San Francisco for a total of 5 days my primary location was Zuckerberg hospital which is a 30 minute bus ride. This is a great place for parking. They got 5 floors to park and there's security. It's pretty clean too. There's a stairwell and even an elevator. This review is for driver 7643 on bus route 292 from SFO to downtown. He was extremely nice to us. He assisted us with our luggage and was polite. He was also a great driver. It took us a little longer than the BART but we weren't in any hurry to get to our hotel since it was still morning. This is a great way to go to and from the airport. Not only do you get to see a little more of San Francisco, you get to meet nice people like our driver. We will be taking Samtrans back to SFO when we go back. read more

The San Mateo County Transit has 49 routes and commuter shuttles to BART and San Francisco. During the day, SFO is covered by SamTrans SFO, 292 & 398. The Car Rental Center has Route 140 service. SamTrans SFO is direct from Millbrae Caltrain to SFO. Overnight service is by SamTrans ECR and 397. SamTrans ECR connects Daly City BART to Palo Alto Transit Center via El Camino and its hotel row (the Fairfield Inn in Millbrae is my go to hotel). During daytime, the ECR does not go to SFO. Easy transfer is at Millbrae BART. Go figure. read more

Waited for the bus 122 this morning 5 mins before it arrived. I usually have to be up at 3am in order for me to catch the bus at 4:19am to be at work by 5am. Bus driver just ignored me even when I was obviously waiting by the bus sign and even tried flagging him down. Pretty terrible driver if you ask me. Dont know if anyone else experienced this before? This bus driver NEEDS to be fired, i'm a normally shy and quiet person but I was looking around for where to pay (I usually use cash) and the bus driver looks at me with a raised eyebrow like i'm stupid. Then he goes and looks at me and says "You go to college right? Well the machine isn't working, dumbass. Use your head." He could have just said "oh the machine isn't working, don't worry about it" like the usual driver will do but this guy acted as if I killed his entire family. Don't take 122 around this time unless you want to deal with this guy, I don't know what his fucking deal is but if he treats everyone like that, he's better off fired with a job that suits his personality better. read more

This review is intended exclusively for route ECR! I absolutely adore the idea of creating route ECR. Getting a seat is also easy since I am boarding this bus at the terminal. Props to SamTrans for combining former routes 390 and 391 into the ECR. Nice, friendly drivers, clean vehicles and seats. I was a loyal rider since 1976 , I was 11 years old and I believe the cost to ride at that time was .35 cents. Over the years there service has gone down dramatically, especially since the pandemic. I once stepped off the curb to cross the street at El Camino and Hickey Boulevard about 9-10 years ago and as I had the green light to cross I stepped off and came literally 2 steps from being killed by a Samtrans buss that ran a red light. I reported the matter and as far as I know that's as far as it went , never even got an opology, I'll never forget or forgive. There's been other issues in the past it can go on and on. The latest issue was August 7th I politely ask the bus driver if he was going to Daly City Bart and violently yelled at me "NO"!!!!!!. I only take Samtrans only when absolutely necessary. This is the downside of living in the peninsula. You have to deal with Samtrans the worst public transportation in the Bay Area. They are unreliable and take too long. The drivers are the bottom of the barrel and absolute worst. Had horrible interactions through the 20+ yrs I've been riding this crappy bus. One incident that stood out happened in 2016/17 ish on the 122 around noon going from sf state to Daly City the driver was a racist white male that greeted the white and Asian young women and with me ignored me and gave me a dirty look and kept looking at me through the rear view mirror as he was talking to another white male passenger that kept staring me down with the bus driver and talking about the good old days. This was the time during orange guys election year and before the bus driver numbers were displayed on the screen inside the bus. This latest incident was on the Daly City shuttle which is all apart of samtrans. I'm rushing to the shuttle bus and again history repeating itself a white male driver in the afternoon looks at me all hostile and suspiciously as I'm greeting him and signaling to let me in. He finally lets me in and as he picks up a young Asian woman he is very friendly and greets her with a hi how are you? Then he picks up another lady this time Hispanic and he was just as dry and rude with her as he was with me. Again election year and samtrans likes to bring this savages out to work for them. That's why your buses stay empty and people barely ride them cause of the slow unreliableness and rude drivers! Muni all the way! read more

On May 15th I took the 292 route from the S. San Francisco convention center into San Francisco wanting to get to Pier 33 dock to Alcatraz. My bus got stuck in downtown traffic because of a marathon/walk/freak show. I was told to head north as it I had to be at the dock for the boat to leave at 10;30 am. "It was not that far." I walked for about 40 minutes and arrived just two minutes before the boat left. Bad advice, bad bus service and bad luck. I wanted to get back to my hotel in S. San Francisco back on the 292 later that evening. I waited at the bus stop from 8:30 pm to 10:35 pm, in which at one point the driver said he would be back by in an hour from a bus stop on the other side of the street. He was not. The driver said he was running late that night, no kidding. I returned to my hotel about 11: 25 pm. The worst thing is that the front desk people leave a 11 pm. I slept in my car. I was strongly encouraged in all the trip advice and information to use public transit in San Francisco and especially around the north piers. But I saw plenty of available, reasonably priced parking around there. I should have taken my car, at least I would not have had to sleep in it later that night. This was an absolute waste of a $4.50 day bus pass. The bus service stinks. read more

Just $2.25 to get home from the airport! Awesome! I am all about saving money. This trip was about as cheap as a business trip could get. I shared a hotel room, brought my own food, flew the redeye on Frontier Air, and caught the SamTrans home. A few cab drivers slowed down / honked when they saw me sitting there on the Sam Trans bench, but I was like, hell no. Even if he cut me a deal it would still be $15 to $30, and then you have the whole thing where you feel like you gotta make small talk with the driver. On the bus I can listen to Pandora all the way home and not be considered rude. My business partner was concerned when I told her I would be catching the bus at 3am but I wasn't worried. I am pretty independent when it comes to public transportation, thanks to catching the bus since I was a kid, and riding SF Muni for a decade. I knew my hubby could pick me up but 3am is just a ridiculous hour, impossible not to interfere with sleep. He has to get up early to take his son to school, then go to work in the opposite direction, and it just would have been an unnecessary pain in the ass, considering I was happy to bus it home for about 2 bucks. Plus he knows I get a thrill out of bragging I found a way to do something super duper cheap. Anyway he just parked his car along the route, near the bus stop, so whem I get off the bus, I can drive home] instead of wheeling my luggage 12 blocks at 3am (I will admit, that part I was not looking forward to). He didn't mind dropping the car off and walking home earlier in the day because it wasn't too late, and he likes to go looking for pokemon (which I am usually not a fan of but hey this time it worked out well for me). I was little nervous about whether I was at the right stop, so I thought, if I am in the right place I will upload some pics to show other people like me, where to wait. Luckily I was at the right spot and even though they only come every hour, that late at night, I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for the bus. I've been riding Samtrans since the 80s not because I like it, but because, traditionally, there was no other transit alternative in San Mateo county for those of us wanting to get around without having to drive. If you have nowhere pressing to go (no job, no hobbies, etc.), then the Samtrans system is just the ticket. The fact of the matter is this: the buses don't come often, the traffic can make for a prohibitively slow journey, and the routes aren't too varied. For example, taking the ECR Daly City bus from Menlo Park to Millbrae because you've not enough money on your Clipper card for Caltrain, will mean a slow roll down the Camino. I've been on the bus already for 30 minutes & we've only now reached San Carlos. *'Door-to-door' from Menlo to Millbrae took about an hour and a half. Oi vey. Pros: comfy seats; bonus if you're a student as the routes & schedules of many buses are tailored to your specific needs (think: 250/251 Foster City-San Mateo lines). Cons: snail pace of coach, mentally-ill/homeless folk who behave erratically, no next bus sched. digitally displayed--one must call 511 for bus times. Let's hope everyone has/brought a cell phone! read more

As a lifelong Muni rider, I'm impressed as long as my bus is clean, on time, and doesn't reek of urine. Bonus points if I actually get a seat. But Samtrans! Where have you been all my life. Yes, you cost more, but you are clean, cushy, ON TIME, and I can actually get a seat. I think I might love you. This route is a great alternative to the Muni T-line, 8AX, 8BX, or the 14X/14L for those traveling to the Outer Mission or Sunnydale areas. It's also an alternative to BART since it goes all the way to the Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo, whereas BART only goes as far as Millbrae. Fares are $2 inbound to downtown, $4 when leaving downtown. It's a small price to pay for comfort and reliability. read more

Anyone who, when I ask "is this caltrain?" when we drive by Broadway, a weekend only Caltrain station, says yes and drops me off, only to leave me wandering Burlingame at 11 at night, is not someone on my happy list. On the way there the first driver wasn't clear on the stops nor where I should be getting off, but the second driver is why I will not longer be coming to YEE's without a DD. Having to walk over a mile, quickly so I didn't miss one of the last Caltrains of the night was not fun. Seriously driver number two? You couldn't have mentioned it wasn't Burlingame? Oh. Well. Last week, I was driving on the streets of San Francisco, and was almost hit by an "Out of Service" SamTrans Bus, driven by a VERY AGGRESSIVE female bus driver who decided to drive into my lane and I had to slow down so I wouldn't get hit. Sam trans is the worst public transit in the United States. I grew up in Jersey, where buses come every 15 mins. With This crappy SamTrans system, many of the buses only come ONCE per hour. If you're a traveling tourist, do NOT waste all of your precious time waiting around for one of these buses. A lot of them show up late, or whenever they want to. So after you've waited a whole hour, you might end up waiting an extra ten-fifteen minutes. I know it's Cali, and you guys like to be laid back....but come on. This SamTrans system really needs to providing more than ONE measly bus per hour. I'm sitting here waiting, and watching more "out of service" buses pass me by than anything. It's frustrating. EDIT: There are 12 people at this stop that have been standing here waiting for the 281 that was supposed to come at 8:12a since 8:00a. It's is 8:30a and we have only seen one bus going in the opposite direction. Since the routes for the 280 and the 281 come right down University (where this stop is located) I have no idea how ANY of these buses are even close to being on time for anyone. Driver yesterday told me that the schedules were behind because of schools being in session, is there no planning being done? In any sense two scheduled buses have just gone completely missing this morning. Take a Lyft. Do not rely on this service. Hands-down the most unreliable bus system in the Bay Area. I'm constantly five to ten minutes early for the routes that I frequent (280, 296) and more often than not I'm standing at the designated stop for twenty minutes before I'm forced to call 511 where I'm informed that the bus will be another hour. So, I'm on time and either these buses are way behind schedule or at least fifteen minutes early or have just decided not to run a certain time that day and this has become a daily occurrence. More often than not I have no choice but to call a Lyft or Uber and having them rush to my destination. Even when I am by chance early enough to catch either of these buses, they're packed with homeless and/or clearly mentally disabled older individuals yelling at each other or the driver, playing radios or videos out loud. For reference, I take VTA all the time and even though the scenery is similar, as a cheap transportation method this is almost to be expected, at least their operators understand how to read a timetable. If I had any other option than to take this service, I would in a heartbeat. For now, it looks like my money will be better spent on ride-sharing rather than supporting this dying public 'service'. read more

I take Samtrans every day and although it is a bit pricey for those of us on a fixed income, I wouldn't trade my bus routes for a car. The drivers on the ECR and 296 (the busses I take most) are very polite and almost always on time. They always give a friendly reply when I say thank you for the ride but don't waste time doing so. Also, they know their business when it comes to dealing with rude or disruptive riders. I give Samtrans a 9 out of ten. The only thing I'd like is free WiFi for the busses. read more

I go to school, and the bus is my common way of getting home. Whenever I go on the 54 bus, it always stops around 15 minutes of walk away from my house. I usually deal with it, but I just really hate walking the extra 15 minutes, especially in the hot sun. On Wednesday, I take the 256, which stops right in front of my house. Great, right? Nope. A couple of months ago, they changed it to the 54. This was just too much for me. I mean, I get it for kids who live near the 54 stops, but what about people like ME? Every Wednesday now, the 256 comes at precisely 12:59 which is exactly one minute before school lets out. Just watching the bus is so taunting. Just please, change it a bit. read more
