So, let me say that I've been to this place at least 30x and I've probably eaten every item of sashimi, nigiri, and half of the rolls. I still go back. It's cheap. And you can drink Stella for 2 euros while you fill your gullet with fresh fish for 5. No kidding. The à la carte is cheap. They can be really busy some weekends, so reserve a place, or prepare to wait. Oh and the people are super nice, despite the busy scene.

So the food was good but very light, so prepare for that or maybe come on a day when your not that hungry. I have heard great things about their unlimited sushi though, so I'll probably come back and try that on a day when I feel like having 5 rounds of sushi :)

We tried calling several times to make a reservation, but no one answered, and we couldn't find any online booking system. It left us wondering--how do people even manage to get a table here? When we arrived, we saw an empty table with no reservation sign on it. However, the chef saw us, came over, and abruptly said, "We're full!" before we could even ask a question, then walked away. One of the staff members also completely ignored us, which felt quite rude and unwelcoming. No matter how good the food might be, this kind of attitude makes us not want to return. They seriously need to improve their reservation system and reconsider how they treat potential customers.

We wanted to order the o-toro (fatty tuna) sashimi as well, but they don't have that one on Mondays, which means I will have to come back. But I don't see that as a problem, :). Well, let's say it makes you feel in a small sushi joint in Japan. The place is small - but cozy -, so reservation is recommended. There is no AC, but only a couple of fans working in times of warm weather, definitely gives it a local feeling. On some days, it can be filled with Japanese people who really know how to enjoy their food, which makes you really feel as if you were in Japan for a little bit. Another nice factor is that you can order a bottle of shoju and leave it there with your name if you weren't able to finish it, so you can continue the next time you come again. Neat, isn't it? So, to conclude, there is definitely nothing that would stop me from going there again. Ok, I forgot to mention that the waiter can come off as a little bit arrogant. However, once you start chatting with him, he is unstoppable. :). The chef on the other hand doesn't say much, but I blame that on the fact that he's very concentrated behind the sushi bar, so no big deal. Can't wait to go there again.

When in 2009, Nanaban opened I was jumping up and down with joy: a place which served ramen of the same quality of those in Japan, and only a short drive from my house! Fast forward to 2019, I no longer live in Belgium but in the meantime I've lived a few years in Asia, traveled to Japan several times and gourmet ramen are much more common. However, returning to Nanaban still makes my heart sing. Over the years the quality hasn't changed, they still serve perfectly cooked ramen with a great broth. Their tonkotsu ramen are one of the dishes which always manage make me happy, regardless of what happens. Seriously, their ramen are much better than many places which come highly recommended. If you need more proof: count the number of Japanese patrons while you are there! If you want to take a trip to Japan buy you cannot afford the airfare, go to Nanaban in Zaventem!

The place itself isn't the prettiest so we like to take out most of the time but the staff is very friendly and you get a really good and fast service if you decide to eat on the spot. The fish is always very fresh and the portions are very generous. Deserves 5/5 stars without any hesitation!
